Choosing the right fly line - tackle tips
For new fly fishers choosing the right equipment can be a daunting task.Matching the rod and line weight is a key feature of a balanced fly fishing system and the foundation of good casting. Casting power comes from the relationship of line to rod. When you pick up the line from the water, the line "loads" the rod by adding enough weight to flex it fully. Then, with a properly timed cast, the flexed rod straightens out, driving the line foreword.Line taperTo help you cast more efficiently most fly lines are tapered. This taper varies in weight, diameter and thickness over the length of the line. There are five main types of taper, each to meet a specific purposeWeight-forward (WF) taperThese are the most popular and the best choice if you are a beginnerThe first 30 feet or so of line is hea

Tackle Test: Fins Braid Review (Product Review)
If you are a regular reader to my blog you will remember that I had my fishing rods stolen recently and this also meant that I had to replace all my fishing line. I must admit to being a braid addict - I love the stuff - but I have only ever used Berkley Fireline. Being a bit of a creature of habit isn't always a good thing so I decided to try a new braid this time around.Fins Braid ReviewKnots and line strengthMy initial impressions of this line were that it was much more limp and smooth than fireline. This makes Fins braid is easy to tie and it knots very easily and smoothly. Like most braids the actual breaking strain is much higher than the manufacturers breaking strain, but even when this is taken into consideration the knot strength is very impressive. Knots are generally the weakest

Tackle it Tuesday: My desk finally
OK ... I finally HAD to get to my desk. I simply couldn't handle it anymore! All the school books stacked on the corner were quite a nuisance. Not to mention, the papers Princess JF had stacked on my desk were simply overtaking everything else! So, I got it looking at least a bit better. I still need to get in each little cubby and organize it ... but I can now get to my desktop and I can grab a teacher guide without the whole stack falling down on me! Here are my before and after shots:

      Tackle it Tuesday: My Blog
Okay, I really needed to tackle my desk today, but I got distracted trying to find a new 3 column layout for my blog here! I was happy with the last template, but I really needed the 3 columns! The first template I was using had 3 columns, but wouldn't work right in IE ... so I'm hoping this one does! If not, check out Firefox, it's much safer and quicker anyways! : )So, there are still some tweaks to be made, but, for now, it's good to go. I can always finish customizing it later on tonight when everyone's in bed and I am allowed quiet to concentrate on the task at hand! Here is the screenshot of what it looked like before I started working on the new template today:As for my desk I mentioned last Tuesday, I really need to get find some kind of order to it! How To Tackle Breast Cancer Successfully?
Breast cancer could very well be placed at number one among all the killer diseases in women today. This type of cancer accounts for 26% of all the cancers in women. As such, it is largest killer cancer of all people in world, except maybe lung cancer. With so many women becoming victims of breast cancer each year, it should be thought that the medical fraternity must be having very detailed information about it. But that is hardly the case. Despite the millions of women dying each year, the causes, mechanisms and treatment of breast cancer still remains shrouded in mystery.A simple layperson's definition of breast cancer is that it is an abnormal growth of a mass of cells known as a tumor anywhere within the breast. This growth is felt as a lumpy mass in the early stages of the cancer. This is when the woman must rush to the doctor. In fact any sudden inexplicable abnormality in the shape of the breast must be given medical attention immediately. There is no cause for alarm, as most

      Barbers Tackle Cowlicks...and Health Problems
In this blog, I've often discussed how health and grooming can go hand in hand. But now, according to an article on Fox News, they're more connected than you think. You could soon be getting more than a trim from your barber. In light of the growing numbers of African-American men being diagnosed with high blood pressure, obesity and prostate problems, many barber shops are now offering health screenings to their clientele. From the article: "...barber shops and beauty parlors are weaving health screenings, information about diseases and advice about diet and exercise into their routine coiffing and cutting."Barber shops have often been seen as one of the most comfortable settings for men to get together and discuss different things (sometimes issues not even discussed with their doctor). U.N. urges Indonesia to tackle police abuses
Indonesia has made great strides combating rights abuses since autocratic president Suharto was ousted in 1998, but torture of detainees in police custody still appears rife, a U.N. investigator said on Friday. Manfred Nowak, the U.N. special rapporteur on torture who is on a two-week tour of detention centers across Indonesia, said he had arrived at three police stations as beatings were actually in progress. "The problem of police abuse appears to be sufficiently widespread as to warrant immediate attention," he said in a statement. He said the types of police abuses reported, and backed up by medical examinations, included beatings by fists, rattan or wooden sticks, cables, iron bars and hammers. In other instances, police had shot detainees in their legs from close range, or electrocuted them, he said, adding that in most cases the purpose appeared to be to extract confessions.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com

      Tackle It Tuesday- Homeschooling Edition
For those who may or may not know, I preschool homeschool my son, which you can read about here. In the short time we've been doing this I have managed to accumulate alot of great materials which I have neat spaces for, but just not too much time to maintain it all. I admit as soon as materials need changing, I've been tossing them in plastic organizing shelves and forgetting it. But the shelves have see-through drawers and the mess could no longer be ignored, so I tackled it! I organized the seasonal material in one drawer, supplies like construction paper and file folders in another, and the last drawer is sort of an "in-box" for things which eventually need to be filed into my son's portfolio. Yep, he's two and has a portfolio. Ha-ha! In any case, I finished the project and it looks so much better and I know the whole functionality part will be a big bonus. What did you tackle this week? 3Skypephone, that we spoke about here and again here has more info now. I was happy to hear about that it will operate in other markets than UK. But it does not look like US is one of the markets. What is required to use the phone for free Skype calls is, if you are a Pay As You Go user, the just pay (top up) every month to keep your phone active. It's really easy to use, too. Just hit the Skype button, which is very big on the phone (see Photo) to connect to more than 246 million users on the Skype network and away you go. For as long as you like. Without paying a penny extra.According to the site, The 3 Skypephone doesn't just help you talk and send instant messages – it's also a music megastore, a mobile TV and Mobile Web Browser. If I am in England (I did spend some time at Cambridge, a while ago) I certainly would get a phone. What was unusual was that the penalty called was for an incidental facemask, not the tackle. Last month against the Chicago Bears, Williams was fined $12,500 for a similar tackle against Bears tight end Desmond Clark.

      Fishing Tackle Box Necessities
By: Garvin DouglasTo give yourself a chance at any sport you must have the right equipment. Fishing is no different. Most people assume all you need to fish is a rod, line, reels and some bait. Oh, that it were that simple. Your tackle box holds your "bag of tricks" for fishing. And a well prepared tackle box can make all the difference during a fishing adventure. If you have just started fishing, your tackle box will look very different from the tackle box of an experienced angler - probably a lot more empty space. However, it takes years of experimentation before you put together the perfect tackle box. As long as you have a basic kit in your tackle box, you can build on it.First, you need the actual box. The best kind is one made of hard plastic. Do not pick a box that is too heavy though, as this will only cause you problems hauling it around during your trip. It is important that the box has a good latch to keep your fishing resources from falling out at the most inopportune times.
