The world we live in is filled with symbols that are accepted universally and mean the same thing wherever we might be.
Traffic signs are a perfect example. When you see a triangular symbol which has a red border and an exclamation mark within, you recognize right away that that means danger is ahead.
The same applies to the symbolisms we find in the Bible and the Book of Revelation. Throughout the ages, God utilizes symbols to make His message known; Our Lord Jesus Christ taught the multitudes with parables so that it is easy for people to quickly grasp the lessons behind the stories.
God doesn’t just speak to us using symbols, but provides us with the explanations so that we might understand what the symbols stand for. While some explanations immediately follow the introduction of the symbol, others require that you have a good knowledge of the Scriptures in order to understand what they mean.

American Legion Defends Religious Symbols on Veterans' MemorialsWASHINGTON (AP) -- This Memorial Day weekend, religious liberty groups are uniting with the American Legion to defend veterans memorials that include religious symbols.The Alliance Defense Fund's Joseph Infranco says memorials that feature a cross or star of David honor "the faith and courage of veterans who paid the ultimate price to protect our freedoms."The ADF and the Liberty Legal Institute are offering free legal help to government entities that are threatened with lawsuits over such memorials.Former American Legion National Commander Thomas Bock says taxpayers shouldn't have to pay legal fees to groups whose lawsuits strip religious symbols from veterans memorials.Infranco says Congress should pass a bill that bars the awarding of attorneys fees when the plaintiffs' only claim to harm is that they felt offended by viewing religious symbols. Unlike muslims, roman catholics and jews, Atheists don’t have the luxury of having a symbol to identify with. Due to the inherent nature of Atheism as a school of thought that does not have a rigid and hierarchical structure akin to other religions, graphical representations of the philosophy will not gain overnight popularity.
This is the American Atheists logo side-by-side with hybrid logo with its European counterpart. It’s fairly easy to spot that the American logo is a bit too cartoon-y for something as cerebral and philosophical as atheism. Though allusions to the atom are well conveyed it notably lacks the depth that the European hybrid offers. Aside from the prominent orbitals, the six electrons are meant to represent the six levels on non-believers - Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist, Freethinker, Heathen and Infidel.
