Artist Lawrence Yang uses a combination of ink, marker and watercolors to create some surreally-beautiful artworks. Yang’s influences range from traditional Chinese paintings to street graffiti art. Huge, fearsome figures dominate his paintings, but appearances can be deceptive.
Starkly silhouetted figures set against intense background washes work to create an atmosphere of wistfulness
I’m a massive fan of pop art, this style heavily influences me, and my favouritie artists are nearly always in this genre …. so I was delighted to discover the colourful works of Artoony via a connection with a client; Diverse Gifts.

Stop.Stop right where you are and have a really good look around you.I bet you any amount of our rapidly decreasing in value cash money that you are not in a place, metaphorical or literal, as bizarre as I am.We all know that there are aspects of life that are wholesome, and some that are somewhat more sinister.Generally, these remain separated. Separated by social sensibilities and physical envir
Caroline said what I had been thinking: “I hope this isn’t one of those illegal zoos.”
We had traveled 40 miles outside of Buenos Aires to the Lujan Zoo on the promise that we would be able to interact closely with the animals. That turned out to be an understatement.
According to Mariana, our guide for the [...]

This short clip gives a brief insight into the 'Surreal Human Sculptures' by Australian contemporary artist Andrew Baines. This particular shoot was done at St Kilda beach in Melbourne, Australia.Andrew has been creating these Human Sculptures for the last couple of years and uses them for his Surreal paintings for which he has become renowned for across Australia as well as here at Artery Gallery
The Persistence of Memory, one of the most famous works by DaliSurrealism is generally defined as: n. a combination of fantastic images and incongruous juxtapositions which represent unconscious thoughts and dreams Such works mingle elements of untruths with realities, making its display to be thoughtfully provoking. Now Wikipedia has the link between such grotesque stuff with the perso
This is a bit far-fetched, even for me, but fascinating nonetheless. Here’s some of the story from Oniazuma :
Israeli officials publicly acknowledge the mysterious similarities between Judaism and Japan. Recently, in March of 2007, Rabbi Avichail of the Israeli Investigative Body Amishav, which searches for descendants of the Lost Tribes, arrived in Japan. Although they [...]

Excuse me. I think you have a lightbulb stuck to your heel.
These beautiful suede pumps are from Spanish fashion house Loewe. I love the combination of a retro style pump with a quirky, lightbulb heel. Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers used the country of Spain itself as an inspiration for his new [...]
This weekend’s She Speaks Conference was both a surreal and a “coming home” sort of experience. Surreal, in the sense of hanging out with well-known bloggers, writers, and speakers; comfortable in meeting other women - the bloggers - who are interested in and familiar with the same things that I am. In how [...]
So, the weekend started with me doing a presentation on programming in a new language to my team. My first presentation and about 80% of my team is in there. Lots of people. No pressure ;)Afterwards we had a Friday celebration for a really cool guy on the team that has now been in our group for 10 years. I spent the bulk of that period discussing Doctor Who and Highlander and explained that Highla

Surrealism in photography was one of the major revolutionary changes in the evolution of photography. Rather than art, photography was reviewed as a copying effort. Surrealism is the introduction of the ‘more than real’ images to the art forms.
Surrealism was a movement in the art and intellectual activities, emerged after World War I. [...]

Some years ago, when I was working as freelancer and I had plenty of spare time to mess around with photoshop, I really liked to retouch some photos to create weird subjects and stuff like that.
As you can guess, working as freelancer and having a lot (a lot) of free time means: not enough jobs and not enough money.. so unfortunately I had to stop working as freelance and consequently don't have time to play with photoshop for hours and hours. That's a shame, but maybe when I'll retire...
However, I've decided to put online some of those images, maybe one at week, maybe one at month, don't know.. Ok, the images are not japan-related but I think they are interesting, what do you think?
Oh, and the one in the photo is me ;)
What is Greenspan doing? Ben Franklin once said "better to be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt". Greenspan's constant rhetoric is inviting a far closer scrutiny of his record and actions than would have happened had he just kept quite.
After his retirement in 2006, rather than just fading away and enjoying the years he has left, the 82 year old Greenspan decided he was going to become an author and prognosticator. His actions both spooked markets as the...

New works by Andrew Baines are now on exhibition at Artery Gallery in St Andrews. Andrew has exhibited extensively in Switzerland, the US and Canada as well as around Australia and has proved equally collectable in Scotland, since being introduced by Artery Gallery three years ago One time illustrator and sign-writer, Andrew Baines has risen in recent years to become one of Australia’s top contemporary artists. In the last four years alone, he has been a finalist in no less than twelve competitions, two of which have been for the Australian National Portrait award. It has been as a figurative painter that his reputation has been established. With a strong resemblance to the work of Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte, the majority of Andrew’s work depict suited businessmen, not nec
CHICAGO – Imagine a film with no redeeming or uplifting emotional qualities with evil that tortures the soul, squirm-inducing narrative elements and a relentless anxiety that practically has us – like the characters in the film – screaming for mercy. Imagine also that this film is excellent.
“Funny Games” is a shot-by-shot remake of writer and director Michael Haneke’s 1997 Austrian film of the same name, which now features American actors and their presumed sensibilities.
Naomi Watts from “The Ring” is Ann: the 30-something matriarch of an upper-middle class American family who’s heading for their vacation home. Her husband, George (Tim Roth), and son, Georgie (Devon Gearhart), are accompanying her. As the family approaches the heavily gated development, a murky apprehen

If the worlds champion race-walker were in mortal danger, would he race-walk away, or would he run?
Fortunately, someone in Japan has determined the answer to this important question. They got the world champion race-walker, showed him a (fake) news story about attacking samurai's being a real problem in Japan, then took him to a stadium to demonstrate his race-walk technique for the camera.
That's when they let loose the attacking samurai. From TV in Japan, I present this hilarious clip, with subtitles. Enjoy!

“Anyone who has been charged with murder for their first kill on the battlefield on the order of his superior and is found not guilty is happy,” Capt. Craig Drummond, a defense attorney, said outside court after the verdict.

Who doesn’t remember this phrase from television a few years back: “Call me now for ya’ free readin’”, ahh good ol’ Miss Cleo. Well, our fake-Jamaican-phone-psychic-entrepreneur is back and this time, she’ll join a pretty zany cast on VH1 for The Surreal Life:
Though VH1 has not made an official announcement on the air date and casting for Season 7 of the popular reality series featuring a group of “has beens”, “have beens”, “have really beens” and “still ares” (in the case of poker brat Phil Hellmuth), both Phil Hellmuth and Professional Wrestler Randy Savage have announced the casting.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage, Dabney Coleman, Nikki McKibbin, Miss Cleo, Carrot Top, and Phil Hellmuth are all slated to appear.
It sounds great already, what a tight cast. Perhaps Macho Man will beat up Carrot Top and we can watch repeats of that shit over, and over and over. I’m voting he yel
Well, the new printer is installed and somehow this weekend I'm going to have to learn to use it! But in the meantime I'm painting, which is of course a lot more fun than printing!I think I'm just about caught up posting my new work to my website. Here are a couple pieces that I finished this week. . This one is a bit on the surreal side. It's called "It Was Cloudy". When I was a girl I had an Appaloosa pony. Like so many farm stories, there was an unhappy ending to our Appaloosa story. But all is well for this little angel speeding across the snow on her grand spotted steed. This one is called "Dreaming Free".
If I had to choose just one word with which to describe the compound in which I lived in Kyoto it would probably be "surreal". Indeed, living there was a very surreal experience.Outside of the compound's walls was one of Japan's oldest and most traditional cities, a world of vibrant colors and smells where Japan's past and present intermixed freely. However, once you passed over the compound's threshold, and its large barred gates swing shut behind you, you were no longer in Kyoto, or any other place that could be found on a map of Japan. Or so it sometimes seemed, at times.Inside the compound everything was as American as Apple Pie, or at least as American as you can make a converted Siheyuan (Chinese courtyard) style mansion. The Stars and Stripes flew from every apartment, red

You would think I'd have a lot to say. I'm pregnant and big things are going on, but oddly enough I really don't have a lot to say. I think I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact...
Have you ever had one of those weeks, or months or even days where it's the best week ever and the worst week ever all at the same time? It's kinda surreal. While I can't say it was the best EVER or the worst EVER... I can say it was a really bad week and a really good week.I feel like I'm living two lives right now. Or I'm dreaming.Part of me owns and operates a successful home staging biz. It's crazy... I'm getting calls from the newspaper asking for interviews and interior design students asking to be interns. I go into peoples homes and tell them how to sell their homes... and they listen!I feel so weird being in any position besides "mother." "Mother" is all I have been for 8 years. Then there is the real me... I'm really a stay home mom. And this last week... was a very bad week. Sick kids...crabby kids. I had to take them to see a doctor who is not their regular doctor... and right away that set Malachi off... he would not comply with the nurse or doctor AT ALL. An
Michelle MalkinBizarro WorldDear Ms. Malkin:Wow. How do I say this?I'm not entirely sure how your "private collection" made in onto YouTube (personally, my money is on that Bryan dude, but it could have been an accident all the same), but whatever you and your husband do for fun in the privacy of your own home is really not anyone else's business.Having your dirty laundry aired out all over the net can cause moments of intense discomfort in one's life. Perfect strangers will be given to casting strange looks at you on the street and laughing behind your back. Your children can become objects of ridicule at school, to say nothing of those inevitable uneasy questions, like "Mommy, where did you get the cheerleader outfit from?" And your colleagues will not able to help but question your sanity, if they haven't started already. Therefore, in the future, you might want to make sure that you put such risque material in a more secure place; might I suggest that you invest in a large safe

Woohoo - Ms. Barba is gone and away from American Idol. Now America can return to the real news and wait until the next scandal or fool to get their 15 minutes of fame.Ian from Random Reality Thoughts and I mentioned her name this evening, and the scandalous girl with the nice pictures who was tone deaf is gone, goodbye from the most popular show in America. Thanks America for getting this decision right. Now we'll see Ms. Barba on the Surreal Life with other C-listers, Penthouse or the glam honorable girlie magazine of them all, Playboy. Heck, Maxim might be calling. The sad thing is through her infamy, she would have gotten her fame and been paid anyway. An Idol, no; however, is she going to be wealthier than she was previously...
i still dont know where i get the strength to do stuff for others and be ok with them not doing anything in return. yes i do expect them to do something, like thank me and show appreciation for one. is that too much to ask? it's really hard to care for someone who doesn't care for you as much. and this is not an intimate-love-shit-thing. i also find it depressing to know that your friend, for whom you'd gladly suffer for, is not exactly willing to do the same for you. and you feel alone...you know they are your true friends, and you can count on them if you need them. but sometimes you feel like they're just not helping you enough. and you sulk for a few minutes and lament about it. then you come out of oblivion deeply scathed yet smiling, looking forward until the next tambay session. im alone... cold... helpless... and i wish someone would notice...
We are running out of time. The point when runaway climate change kicks in is approaching. The point when carbon sinks in nature will turn in to carbon sources. Sources which will unleash enormous amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. When this happens the temperatures will rise dramatically. A mere 6 degrees of global warming was enough to wipe out up to 95 per cent of the species which were alive on earth at the end of the Permian period, 250 million years ago. The Permian crisis nearly marked the end of life on earth. We are heading for disaster and yet people are surrealistically calm. People still buy SUVs and go to Thailand. Why?I think a lot of people don't realize what global warming has in store. Rising sea levels and stronger storms is a bleak threat in comparison to the cataclysmic events that took place during the Permian crisis and which are likely to happen again.Tipping pointsGlobal Warming-All You Need to Know (video)
Contemporary parents, tired of common, pronounceable designations like Emily or Michael, have been gravitating toward more elaborate, esoteric names for several decades. As culture has crested the 21st Century, American parents – who find their individuality subjugated to an overwhelmingly homogenized ex-urban strip-mall ethos – are turning to outlandish child ...
