Thanks to Trish Forant (www.emailourmilitary.com) for her tweet on Twitter I learned about the U.S. Army’s new efforts to prevent suicides. Col. Elspeth C. Ritchie, director of the Army Medical Department’s Strategic Communications and formerly psychiatry consultant to the army’s surgeon general, said that soldiers might be aware of risk signs of suicide in other soldiers but not
Post Taare Zameen Par, a sudden sense of social awareness seems to have stirred up in Aamir Khan. If he is not supporting sensitive cinema, he is busy supporting a charitable cause. Recently he came to support Menaka Gandhi’s Animal Charitable Foundation. After John Abraham, Malaika Arora and Jiah Khan, Aamir appears to be touched [...]

The number of suicides among veterans of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan may exceed the combat death toll because of inadequate mental health care, the U.S. government's top psychiatric researcher said. By Kim Painter, USA TODAY The sun is shining. Flowers are blooming. It's May, and many of us feel great. But the thoughts of some vulnerable people grow dark at this seemingly bright time of year. In fact, if there is a season for suicide, springtime is it. More... Copyright 2008 USA TODAY, a division of Gannett Co. Inc. Comment: This study is further evidence that increased suicidality as depression lifts is probably an effect of the lifting and not of the agent, whether it be antidepressants, psychotherapy, deep brain stimulation, the amino acid L-Tryptophan, or, as found in this study, sunlight, that triggers the improvement.
Indietracks is very much a one-off. Set in a 1950s steam railway in Ripley, Derbyshire, the festival (which is an absolute bargain at £45 for the weekend and a meagre additional £15 for camping) proved to be a steaming success over three events last year, ... read more!
TORONTO - A Health Canada warning that linked newer generation antidepressant drugs with suicidal thoughts in children and teens may have had an unintended and negative consequence, a new study suggests. Suicides in children and teens in Manitoba rose by 25 per cent in the two years after Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned that children and adolescents who took selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, might be at increased risk of experiencing suicidal thoughts.

P Chidamabaram, a sane, educated and sensible politician, has done what the ‘illiterate’ Devi Lal had once done, to literally buy votes. In the Union Budget presented on February 29, 2008, he took the wind out of the opposition’s everything by announcing a jumbo waiver of all loans taken by small farmers from banks. The bill: a whopping Rs 60,000 crores! Much to the surprise of all, as soon as the announcement was made, ‘farmers’ from neighbouring Harayana landed up at the residence of not the Finance Minister who made the dramatic announcement but of Sonia Gandhi, to thank her! How ordinary, poor farmers came to know immediately that Sonia Gandhi was the one to thank and how they had the presence of mind and the motivation to rush to Delhi to do so is one of the great myster
“Kids round here have been drinking, smoking dope, taking ecstasy and having sex since they were 13 or 14. By the time they reach my age they’ve done everything. The combination of booze, drugs and the boredom of living around here screws young people up so much that they think killing themselves will be exciting.” - 16 yr.-old, Bridgend, South WalesShe was 19, and yesterday she hanged herself. I can’t quite remember the saying but I think it goes something like “problems are temporary but suicide is forever”. Hell, I don’t know, but that sounds about right.
If these fools knew what they would look like, wonder if they still would have done it. The following are some sick and gory pictures of people who felt they had no reason to live… or maybe, like many other suicides, they just wanted to really hurt the people who loved or did not love them.
This is one of the worst. I guess this is the end result of laying down on the train tracks.
This may be a sure fire way to do yourself in, you know youcould never live as 2 pieces.
This victim was a drowning and was not found for some time, water is not too hot of a preservative.
This victim got out in front of a moving car. From the looks of this, the car must have been going pretty fast.

If one of the five Lisbon sisters was crazy, it had to be Cecilia, the youngest. At least that’s what all the neighborhood boys thought when she proved them right by killing herself during the first party that the sisters had ever been allowed to host. What none of the boys expected at the time was that just one year later all four of Cecilia’s older sisters would also be dead, victims of their
Whole family suicide at Prashanthi Nilayam: 4-12-1998.
In a hotel near the Satya Sai Airport, Ramesh aged 42, a multimillionaire industrialist in Tiruchirappally, owner of RMH Corporation, was found dead with seven other family members lying unconscious on the floor frothing at the mouth beside his daughter who already died of a brain tumour the day before. Six died within the day, while one person survived (Shankar). The police concluded that the whole family committed suicide because of the daughter’s death and the shock this was to their faith in Sai Baba, who they had expected to save her. There was a suicide note: “God has forsaken us. I had great affection and love for my daughter. So we are going to the place where she has gone. No one is responsible for our death. I myself have influenced all the members to commit suicide to become one with Sai Baba. We are offering ourselves at his feet. All our properties have to be transferred to the Satya Sai Trust. The CDC has released a report finding a spike in successful suicides in adolescents in 2004. This increase is the largest increase since 1990. Is this the result of all the misinformation floating around anti-depressant medications causing suicide and violence in adolescents and adults? Thats about when the hullabaloo started. So that means that the increase in suicides may continue into 2007, four years of increased suicide caused by misinformation in the media. It would appear that media sources who print information on such volatile topics need to consult with professionals before doing so.
Perhaps even more importantly, researchers need to be obtaining peer review of their research before going to the media. It's become routine that new research authors send out news releases on topics that will attract media attention. I'm sure part of this is a survival method to make sure the research sponsor benefits from the research and funds them further. But the consequences of such rele
China recalls, recalls, and recalls. I’m sure it’s not the first time you heard the words “China” and “recall” together (well by now, at least four times). China is being faced with immense pressure on the safety of its export products. The recent recall of Fisher-Price toys (Dora, Diego, and Sesame Street characters) was among the largest of recalls in recent months. The CEO of the manufacturing plant, where these toys were painted, was reported to have committed suicide today.

Cheung Shu-hung, co-owner of Lee Der Industrial Co., apparently hung himself in his factory. The motive behind is suicide was not given, but I’m sure it wouldn’t take a genius to figure out. Cheug, and his company Lee Der, was under immense pressure by Chinese officials (who are eagerly trying to

“The media has been in a frenzy for weeks over Kevorkian’s release. Morganroth says that he’s been contacted by Diane Sawyer, Larry King, Barbara Walters and others, with offers of up to $50,000 for interviews and lectures which allows Kevorkian to profit from his crime.Kevorkian was convicted in April 1999 of second degree murder in connection with Youk’s death and has been incarcerated in Michigan. Kevorkian admitted to participating in at least 130 assisted suicides but despite repeated efforts by prosecutors to send him to prison, was convicted only for the Youk death.
The two-member Michigan Parole Board voted in December to grant parole on June 1 to Kevorkian with the promise that he won’t assist in any more suicides. Any involvement by Kevorkian in any assisted suicide would revoke his probation. Kevorkian’s probation conditions prohibit him from providing care for anyone who is older than 62 or who is disabled.
FOREST CITY, North Carolina(AP) -- The latest tree suicide figures released by the federal government have shown a dramatic rise over last year. The governments report, released April 8th, 2007, shows that there were 30,254 confirmed cases of tree suicide for the year 2006, up from 23,822 in 2005.Lawmakers are currently speculating as to why there was such a dramatic increase. "Right now we have no definitive answer as to why our nations trees are deciding to end their lives on such a massive scale." Rep. Aston (D-NH) said, adding "but we must find the reason before we lose any more of these troubled giants." On top of Washington's speculation list are climate change, increased logging, as well as a national spruce beetle epidemic.Janine Anderson, President of the Tree Advocacy Group of North Carolina, had this to offer "This is an absolute outrage. Our government has been turning a blind eye to this growing problem for decades. We have lobbied the government to fund a National Tree
