Some of you may remember that last Wednesday I went to see Envy Corps at Water Rats in London, however they had to cancel the show suddenly. Well, news has since emerged as to why they had to cancel so abruptly: guitarist Brandon had suffered a stroke. Only 30, he is expected to make a full recovery. PayPal is currently experiencing major failures with its payment clearance system. Hundreds of PayPal merchants have reported they have not receive their regular ’subscription payments’. The official statement from PayPal at this moment in time is: “Paypal wants to notify merchants that subscriptions are experiencing some delays and that will be back to normal around September 5, 2007 (Wednesday) or September 6, 2007 (Thursday). Please be assured that no subscriptions will be missed, just that the payout will be delayed. We apologize for any impact caused by this incident. Sincerely, PayPal Merchant Technical Support Team” Whilst this is bad enough for merchants who rely on the income from subscription payments from PayPal, numerous merchants have also reported subscriptions have been incorrectly cancelled by PayPal. No official statement has been issued with regards to this problem. Merchants are very unhappy about this and it is causing serious damage to PayPal reputation.

Antonio Puerto suffered a heart attack during a soccer game.  I couldn’t understand what they were saying, but you could see the worry on the faces of his teammates.  That is a tragedy and I hope everything turns out okay for him.

Just a few weeks ago tour blog was dominated by the iPhone, now it’s the iPlayer that’s making the headlines. We’re talking about the BBC’s on demand TV service which will enable internet users to watch programmes within seven days of broadcast, and it’s free. It’s a great idea, and should be a fantastic resource, but it’s currently only compatible with Windows XP users, which has left some people frustrated. Well, when we say some, we mean at least 16,000..because that’s how many have signed an e-petition protesting about the rollout of the service. They want the BBC to develop the system for non-windows platforms, and argues that the current format excludes certain people, therefore goes against the corporation’s ethos. Billie Piper was rushed to hospital after she suffered from a sudden loss of eyesight. It has been said that Billie was dining at The Ivy restaurant in London when her eyes became blurred when she stepped outside to have a cigarette. She then tried to cover her face up when the photographer’s bulbs started flashing and was in obvious discomfort. Billie has said to have panicked when she woke up the following morning and could not open her eyes; she was then taken to Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in Central London. A friend of Billie said that “She’s being looked at but we don’t know the score. It could be that her eyesight has been damaged or that she has some form of infection or other condition.” Experts have said that retinal damage can be caused by camera flashes but this is rare and could serve as a trigger for existing conditions. Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Kenny Irons, limped off the field on his left ankle after a seven-yard run and was then carted from the sidelines with unspecified left knee and ankle injuries after picking up 17 yards on four carries. Lewis told reporters after the game it’s a significant knee injury and there will an MRI tomorrow. The fear of course, is that Irons may have suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate injury. Comedian Dave Chapelle suffered from a bout of exhaustion over the weekend and was hospitalized. After being in the emergency room for a couple of hours on Saturday he was later released. Apparently his publicist claims he “had been travelling” and he was “exhausted.” What the hell does he do anymore to cause him “exhaustion.” He walked away from $50 million for his highly rated tv show and now does occasional standup work. Big freakin deal. If Oprah said she was exhausted I’d believe that one, with her building african children schools, tv show, charity events, blah, blah…. But Dave Chapelle doesn’t do anything. Get a freaking nine to five Chapelle and raise a couple of kids and then come back to me and we’ll talk about what is classified as “exhaustion.”

By its own measures, everything looks good at ACA Capital Holdings, a financial management and insurance company. But other numbers do not look so good, and the stock price is falling rapidly. The company will not comment on what is going on.
