I work as a motorcycle courier in a large-ish rural town. I fancy it. I feeling motorcycles and I fancy the simplicity of the job. The disparity between filtering my tandem through the transfer, being 100 percent alert and concerned of 100 percent of everything I must to know to get my tandem from A to B, and the essence of the job, which is genuinely just taking objects from one place to another,

Half of 2008 has passed. It is now time to reflect on the goals and aspirations you have set for the year. To achieve good grades, it would be taxing for you if you study for the sake of studying. Deriving a passion in studying is thus important for students so that learning can be an enjoyable and fruitful journey.Asking "WHY" is a good way to help start the process in deriving your passion towar
Often times, when I tell people that I work for a biotech company developing a treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) using cobra venom, I receive the strangest feedback.

Most students need to study if they want to do well. There is no denying this fact. But for each student, and for each subject, the method of studying that is most effective will vary. One thing that is for sure, is that they will be using one or more of their 5 senses to accomplish it:tastetouchsmellsighthearingWhich one works best is an individual thing. And most traditional study methods miss s

When children go to school and learn their work it's much easier to remember how to do things with a teacher being around to answer all the questions. However, what happens when that child comes home and is looking at the work themselves? and have probably forgotten at least a third of what they just learned. A great

I keep coming back to the MCAT because I have a chance to do it right. This

It's been a little while since I posted on this blog, and I have two good reasons...well, a few. School has been hectic as always, I have 2 other sites that i'm working on and i've been studying functional strength exercises since returning to the gym. I went to a few sites and even tested out some techniques involving this type of workout. I've always asked myself when doing a workout, "How does this benefit me other than LOOKING strong?"It's cool to lay on a flat surface and push off 350lbs...but how does that help you outside the gym? That's the point i'm trying to make. Besides, in the long run, heavy lifting like this will cause serious breakdowns of joints causing injury. Functional strength exercises are designed to help you become stronger in real world scenarios without taking you
Warren Buffett: Prioritize Career Building Over Market Studying [Money] Fortune magazine drops in on a Q&A Warren Buffett offered to 150 business students, and the advice dispensed by the Oracle of Omaha on investing and money in general is elegantly simple. When one student asked Buffett how to best spend his free time to further his investing knowledge, Buffett avoided generalized advice and told him to stick to what he knows. Fortune paraphrases:For most people, the bulk of their income is going to come from earning power in their chosen profession. Therefore, from the standpoint of building wealth, free time is better spent sharpening one's professional skills rather than studying investing.Buffett also advises that those who can't commit serious time to being active investors sho
If you're struggling to become a better soccer player, the help you need could come from an unlikely place: from study and observation. Now, before you start scoffing about how you'll learn more by doing than by studying, think about it. If you never watch a game on TV, you'll never see all those drills and soccer techniques you do put into practice. If you never ask a question about certain techniques, you may be learning it the wrong way and you'd have no idea. If you enjoy doing something, you don't just do it. You read about it, talk about it, and drive your friends and family crazy with it, all in an effort to get better. Become a better soccer player sooner by becoming a dedicated student of the game. Here's how to do it. 1) Watch games on television. One of the best ways to learn

Often times, when the material we are reading isn't interesting enough to completely capture our attention, a bit of background music can really prolong the duration of our studying. I admit, my rock collection does not serve me well in these scenarios, but I do have the option of creating an internet radio account and listening to some more "useful" music. Our spotlight today is on Pandora Radio. Pandora dubs itself "a new kind of radio - stations that play only music you like," and the technique they use to pick only music we like can be twisted to our own benefit. For example, we know that jazz music creates a great environment for studying. You can either type in a song name or the name of an artist. Based off of this, it will play music which it thinks best suits your specifications. I

They have that too.Basic advice for using this resource:Read your text book. If you can't understand it...Search for it on wikibooks and see if you can find the course material there. If you need more help, check out wikiversity (here is their organic chemistry page). Now if none of this works, go to office hours and seek "professional" assistance. Friday night is typically the ideal time to recover from a hard week, but I find I keep on worrying about the week as I try to enjoy myself. So I've designed a little tactic that not only helps me relax better, but also keeps me focused when I need to work. The approach:Take a sheet of paper, and title it something like "Work" or my usual "Homework for Tonight".Write down the major areas where you have work to complete, be they classes or types of chores.Write down all the work you have to do, from now till some specified future time (perhaps until next Friday)Take this list, and prioritize the items within each area. Then, prioritize the areas themselves. Now just forget about it all for tonight! The results:You have a plan for the whole week. You can relax better Friday night because you have
A common curse of every student is wasting time on the computer. Chatting with friends, playing video games, or just watching videos, we meander away the precious time we had set aside for study purposes. It keeps track of what program you had open and for how long. A more complete description can be found on RescueTime's FAQ.In order to track your data, RescueTime requires a free registration. Memorizing is a fact of life in college. Whichever university you attend, you will undoubtedly have to memorize loads and loads of information, and be required to recall it at a moments notice on an exam. With vocabulary, formulas, or just important facts, flash cards are easily the best manner for learning a lot of material in a short period of time. Now, if you are anything like myself, a computer is the main tool used in studying, from looking up key facts to typing up essays. Additionally, my handwriting is so terrible that writing flashcards would be futile. I would spend more time decoding what I had written rather than taking in the information. And here is where jMemorize comes to the rescue. This open source software allows you to input and save multiple sets of flashcards, even in
I'm considering doing an independent study course next quarter. My reasoning is this: I already have to take one course that is required that I really don't care about and since the number of modern literature courses offered (seeing how I'm a modern lit major) are rather crappy, I don't want to have to take three courses that I hate. So I've resolved to considering independent study as an option to do something interesting. I don't want to discuss race because, quite frankly, I'm not that interested in any subject of race within science fiction beyond tropes of racism and the data I'm collecting for the project I'm working on for this blog (which serves no academic purpose other than to educate myself and anyone else interested on what minority categories look li
levels of radiation in relatively safe areas is many times what the background level is in most localities. Due to natural and human processes, activity gets concentrated in some locations. There are areas of extreme activity (hot spots) within the zone. Certain elements like radioactive strontium get concentrated in bone so for example animal remains can show very high activity within the zone. The liquidators who helped clean up the zone buried highly radiocactive waste in different locations - some of them not well-recorded.The nuclear power plant that went critical in April 1986 is just to the north-west of the big lake near the centre of the picture.
Friday was our first day of Kyrgyz lessons. A group of 6 or so of us have decided to start studying Kyrgyz together once a week here at The London School. Unfortunately, on account of being out with the flu on Friday, I missed our inaugural class. I’ve been trying to catch up in preparation for this coming Friday. It doesn’t seem that I missed too much, and I hope I’m not deluding myself on this account. For those of you who are interested: Kyrgyz uses the Cyrillic alphabet (which I already know quite well), with the addition of three extra letters. One looks like a theta and sounds like the u in fur and church. One looks like a Cyrillic н with a tail, and it makes the ng sound. The other is a super-stiff looking y (as opposed to the relaxed looking Cyrillic у) and it makes a ew so

When I reads about the ridiculous things that are being said and done in the name of the “War on Terror”, I tend to get frustrated and angry. I just read an article which had my eyebrows up in my hairline and I was shaking my head in incredulity at the….childish, pathetic, scary, ignorant, vindictive, absurd…actions of the British Home Office, then I became very frustrated and angry.
The piece is titled, “UK gov bans ‘terror’ suspect from science class” in The Register, written by Lucy Sherrif, an excerpt follows in a moment.
Anyone who thinks we live in a just and fair society that gives us freedom and allows us to be innocent until proven guilty, needs to sit down and have a long hard think about why they still think that. I urge such people to seek the truth out. I am writing another post and too annoyed by our government to comment further on this piece at the moment.
The UK government are suspicious about a British resident and sus

This week in our Foreign Student Series, we return to a subject we have discussed before : financial aid. This time we are going to talk about financial aid in the form of assistantships, grants, scholarships and fellowships. An assistantship at a university is a job that is paid with money or free classes. These positions usually go to graduate students to assist a professor for about twenty hours a week. The assistants may teach, grade papers and tests, or do research in a laboratory.A grant is a gift of money. Unlike a loan, a grant does not have to be repaid. Grants can come from public or private organizations. Schools often receive donations for this purpose. Some grants are for general purposes of paying for school, while others are offered in a subject area.Scholarships and fellowships do not have to be repaid either. A scholarship is financial aid to undergraduates; a fellowship is for graduate students.Scholarships and fellowships are generally for students with special abilit
There it is. After day 1 of exam week I went to the campus store and purchased myself a copy of Apple OS X Leopard for the student discount of $69. I would’ve gone to the campus store over the weekend but the did not receive the shipment until today. They said that since they are selling the software at a discount, Apple Inc’s priorities were shipping to all their retail stores first. No problem with me. At a discount of almost 50%, I can wait a couple days…
Anyways, I went home, threw it in the computer to upgrade and took a nap. Then spent the rest of the day prepping for day 2 tomorrow. Tomorrow I’m taking two exams. The first is for Cell Structure and Function and the second is for Evidence-Based Medicine.

Some of the most wonderful acts of worship in all of history are those that are recorded in the Psalms. In fact, when David was writing most of them, they expressed a kind of worship that was quite revolutionary for his time. You have to remember that during his days, getting into heaven was more about following the rules than it was about having a heart for God. I don’t believe that it was intended to be that way, but it was??simply human nature for man to just respond to the rules and offer the sacrifices that were required. But David danced! David was different because of his heart to please God and to be near Him, and the Psalms are the outflow of his his heart expressed with pen to paper.
Therefore, when studying the Psalms there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration. Typically with God’s Word, we look at it as His Word to us. We can look at it, and find the principles that we need to center our lives around. We build doctrine, and rules and guideli
It is well established that a child's brain has a remarkable capacity for change, but controversy continues about the extent to which such plasticity exists in the adult human primary sensory cortex. Now, neuroscientists from MIT and Johns Hopkins University have used converging evidence from brain imaging and behavioral studies to show that the adult visual cortex does indeed reorganize-and that the change affects visual perception. The study appears online in an advance publication of the Journal of Neuroscience. The authors believe that as scientists find ways to use this adaptive ability, the work could have relevance to topics ranging from learning to designing interventions for improving recovery following stroke, brain injury, or visual disorders.Animal studies conducted two decades ago and using single cell recording of neurons found that the adult animal brain can change, but shed little information about the adult human brain. In 2005, a functional magnetic resonance imaging
Previously, I had a very high fever one day before my exam week. I'm not sure if it's due to stress or the brownie which I bought from the school's cafeteria, which caused my body to be extremely heaty. But I also took every opportunity of free time during work to revise the lecture notes. I realised that this can't go on everytime there's an examination. Do not let examination stress stop you from making your mark. Psychologists have found the scientifically based strategies that could improve the students' scores if they are practised in the final examinations. However, revision has no substitute. Here are the guidelines to the science of studying smart. Be Healthy!I'd to admit I'm putting myself at risk of getting a terrible cold or fever in the middle or before the exam period. Those night owls whose study sessions fuelled by caffeiene may seem a great way of achieving lots in a short time. But, it destroys your sleep cycle, wreck eating patterns and even your immune system
Do you have the kind of friends who will ask you that question, point blank? I do, and I’m so glad. I have really come to value spending time in God’s word: on my own with only the Bible, going through a study by myself, or using a study and meeting with a group. Regardless of the poor habits I fall into at times, back-to-school always reminds me to get back to the important ritual of Bible study
So UF isn't in the top 10 for academics, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2008 rankings for comprehensive public research universities. But Princeton Review says UF is No. 4 for.....Partying! And No. 3 for....Jock Schools!
The 2008 Princeton rankings, the more frivolous and eclectic and very non-scientific of the many rankings lists out there, puts FSU (once noted by Playboy for its partying scene) a measly No. 18 for partying and No. 10 among "jock schools."
UF also got a No. 9 nod for "lots of hard liquor" AND "lots of beer" categories - even after President Bernie Machen's ongoing attempts to cut down on excessive drinking among students.
New College, the tiny liberal arts institution in Sarasota, once again made the top 10 in the, ahem, "reefer madness" category. Eckerd College in St. Pete was ranked No. 18.
And when it comes to academics, FSU and UF aren't wowing anyone, at least according to Princeton survey partic

What would I do if there was so much thing as Saturday? I would get nothing done!
I managed finally to get a decent night’s sleep and what a difference. I was able to get a lot of kitchen duty stuff done in that I prepped lemon chicken for tonight’s dinner, made a large batch of tuna salad with hard boiled eggs, made a beef stroganoff and a few other small tasks.
I helped my younger daughter make 2 mushroom magnets out of Model Magic clay by crayola. By the way, a tip, lay out wax paper as a work surface it makes a HUGE difference as the clay tends to stick to the newspaper that is our usual art area cover.
I have cards all filled out for tomorrow and even picked up MrGrumpy’s gift cards (1 to home depot and 1 to kohls). Other than some tidying that still needs to be done (which I never seem to get around to) I am all ready for Father’s Day tomorrow.

We posted the first day of our summer unit on Australian history. For those who do not know, my husband is Australian so my children are all "halflings." My daughter (8) and I are working on this together and she is very excited to share what she is learning. Because it is connected to her, however, I am moderating comments. Here's a teaser:The music is A Land Down Under by Men At Work, a reggae-influenced Australian rock band that was very popular in the 80s.I hope you enjoy taking a peek at what we do in our little homeschool as we share our summer unit!

Well, for those who had been following my posts, you all should know that I'll be preparing for my CAT Paper 3, 4 and 5 Finals right now. I am supposed to sit in front of the study desk or in the library whole day long, even I don't have classes to attend but this will not be me. I will surely find something to do, other than study the same old plain accounting syllabus. I really would like to be somewhere in ACCA right now since more creativity might be needed in business planning and so on...I'm should have been in a complacent state right now, as I scored "BEYOND EXPECTATIONS (my expectations)" in both my Paper 4 and 5 mock exam but I also scored "BEYOND MR. JAYAN'S EXPECTATION" in Paper 3. Why I scored beyond Mr. Jayan (my Paper 3 lecturer)'s expectation? I screwed up my Paper 3 mock and he kept repeating it in the class that how my results slide and one quote really push me down to the groud - "Who has entered you life?" in a kidding way, I'm stunned!Enough of mock examinati
Today I decided to write about some of my favourite podcasts which I’m using for improving my English level (listening comprehension). All of these resources are specialized ESL (English as a Second Language) podcasts hosted by English professionals and native speakers.
First of all, I want to introduce EslPod.com site. This site and its podcasts are created by the Center for Educational Development, in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Lucy Tse writes scripts and records many of the dialogs and stories. Dr. Jeff McQuillan is the host of the podcasts. Both were university professors of applied linguistics and education for many years, and have taught English as a Second Language at several colleges and universities.
I think, this is one of the best ESL resources in podcasting world. The main idea of ESL Podcast is that every issue of this podcast lasts 10-20 minutes, and has three parts:
An dialog or story read a bit slower than normal speech.
An explanation of some of the expressio

Only the other day I watched an elderly Arabic man struggle to make himself understood in broken English to a Philippine nurse. by Linda CorreliThe progress of technology is astounding. Mankind attained fantastic, unprecedented peaks during the last century: the invention of the phone, TV-set, radio, if to mention some. Could Newton or Einstein ever imagine that piles of their books and treatises can be stored in one, by the first sight rather small electronic machine called computer? The invention of the computer can be compared at least to the first step on the moon surface, which was a small step for a man, but a Herculean step for the mankind.Technology is a power that drives the world. As lazy creatures, we have surrounded ourselves with the fruit of progress and enjoy our life effortlessly, taking advantage of convenient, helpful, indispensable and irreplaceable machines, created by our hands.Nowadays we can’t imagine our life without these machines. Let’s take computers, for instance. We can’t get along without them anyway. Eating, drinking, and communicating via computers, at last living with them
This may not be news to most people, but for those who are planning to study abroad in Europe or even vacation there sometime soon, it may be an eye opener. The dollar has been falling recently. By falling, I mean dropping like a rock. And by recently, I mean for at least the past five years. It is true that there was a little bit of a rebound during 2005. Since then, though, the downward trend has continued. Let's take a look at the numbers. The Euro:Five years ago, the dollar was worth about 1.15 euros. Today, it is worth just under .75 euros. That is a decline of roughly 35% for the dollar. Looking at it another way, the euro has become about 53% more valuable. The Pound:Five years ago, the dollar was worth about .70 British pounds. At today's close, it is worth a bit more than .50 pounds. The dollar's decline versus the pound is around 29% for the period, meaning that the pound appreciated 40%.The Rouble:Yes, the dollar has even tumbled against the Russian rouble. Five
LONDON (AP) - Britain examined options Sunday for new dialogue with Tehran over the seized crew of 15 sailors and marines, as a poll suggested most Britons back the government’s goal of resolving the standoff through diplomacy.
Government and defense officials refused to discuss a report that claimed a Royal Navy captain or commodore would be sent to Tehran as a special envoy to negotiate the return of the personnel.
The official would deliver an assurance that British naval crews would never deliberately enter Iranian waters without permission, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported.
Britain’s Foreign Office and Ministry of Defense said they would not comment on negotiations, or on options being considered. “We will continue to conduct our diplomatic discussions in private,” a Foreign Office spokesman said on the government’s customary condition of anonymity.
Considering their options for new DIALOGUE??

They'll tell you to keep your feet on the ground. We say aim high and reach for the stars. That's the difference between them N'US.Catchy enough? That's only one of the lines NUS, National University of Singapore, is using in a series of ads that's been running on newsprint lately. They're offering a scholarship. It's the time of the year here in Singapore when schools of higher learning conduct open houses. The results of the GCE examination are out and students and their parents are into some serious school hunting. Though some already have their eyes on universities abroad (Australia and UK), most will stay to be nurture by local institutions. In the Singapore Education system, at the end of secondary school, students take the GCE 'O' levels examination to determine whether they're are eligible for Junior College (JC), Polytechnics or ITEs. Girls get to continue studying because the guys will have to spent the next 2 years in National Service, NS). Those who need to g
I took a few photos yesterday. I've been studying at the New York University Medical Center Library the past 2 Sundays. That's 9 hrs and 10hrs of studying respectively. The 1st photo is a pic I took of Manhattan in the car on the Queensboro bridge which connects Queens with Manhatten. The 2nd photo was taken coming off the Queensboro bridge entering Manhattan. The 3rd photo is of me in the Library at NYU med center. Yeah that's where I parked my butt to study. The 4th photo is of an ambulance they used to use at Bellevue Hospital back in 1898. The only thing missing here are the horses which would be pulling the ambulance and of course the driver. The 5th photo is a showcase showing medical equipment doctors used at the med center during the 1800's and 1900's.
It's the start of my last term, and if I finally pass my Accounting I can finally take my majors. If I don't I can go bang wall and die!
Hmm... I think I forgot to mentioned that I FAILED MY ACCOUNTING AGAIN! Oh gosh. It's such a pain. I've failed this module 3 times! First time I didn't attend, 2nd time I overslept and was late, 3rd time I was late but seriously even if I wasn't I would have failed.
Sigh. My "zhi ming shang" is most definitely Accounting! But I just have to pass it, otherwise I can never graduate!
Anyway, I'm going to request from my company to get SDF for me to attend a Flash MX course. I kinda want the cert. LoLx~

Did the title catch your attention? Do you need a new motivation to study hard? Believe it or not, I did get paid for studying hard! Now I am going to tell you how to do so in this post with the hope that the cash awards offered by a few banks would motivate you to study harder and get better results. Some of you might have known that there are a few banks in Malaysia depositing money to the account holders who score well in major examinations, namely Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM). These banks give “free money” in order to attract new teenage customers. You lose nothing other than a few hours and RM10.00 for opening a new account in these banks. Please bear in mind that the minimum initial deposit for new accounts for most of the banks is RM250.00. Meanwhile, you will receive free money in terms of a few hundred ringgits if you score well in the major examinations.I
Westerners studying Chinese and Chinese studying English makes sense. An Israeli fascinated with Chinese language and culture shouldn't sound all that strange, right? But how about a Asian interested in Hebrew and Judaism? Wouldn't you find that to be special? Well, I've come to know and hear-about a few of those.
On my first week in Taiwan I've made a very untypical expedition to go and try to find the local Israeli community. No where better to start looking for that than the Israeli not-really-but-almost-embassy in Taiwan who were very nice to direct me to the local Jewish community. Making contact with the local Rabbi I've decided that despite my issues with religious faith I'll go the local Jewish temple and see the lively local Jewish community. Oddly, I found out that the local steady Hebrew speaking community consisted of two - one Rabbi and one Taiwanese. To my complete surprise the Christian Taiwanese girl spoke fluent Hebrew, studying the langua
As usual I am behind with my studying, only it's pretty important that I catch up because my last assignment is due at the end of this month - I have to submit it and I have to pass it, no extensions are allowed otherwise I risk failing the entire course. No pressure there then. I don't think passing it will be too much of a problem, it's just getting my arse in gear between now and then to get on with the reading and prepare.I've also signed up for a diploma to do over the Christmas break which should help me quite a bit work-wise, it'll add to the experience I'm getting at the moment and then hopefully when I move on I'll be going to bigger and better things (and, of course, more money)! One thing I've been meaning to blog about for a while is this woman I know, mainly through the internet. I used to belong to an msn group quite a while ago and she was a member who I got chatting to. She happens to be a lesbian, but she's a thoroughly messed up one. I have met her on a couple
If studying abroad is wonderful then studying abroad in France is wondrous. Here are some treasures on how to best explore one of the most beautiful countries on earth in between all of those pesky tests and papers...1. Don't bring anything that might have to be dry cleaned! You will find doing your laundry in a Laundromat quite expensive compared to the States, the prices for dry cleaning are astronomical, as it's still not a very common practice. Should you discover a red wine stain on your favorite dry clean only' shirt that made its way into your suitcase against better advise, look for a Pressing or Blachisserie and ask for a nettoyage sec (TIP: Before forking over for a dry cleaning bill, the best way to get a red wine stain out of clothes is by pouring it's friend white wine all over it, honest!)2. Because the water in France is a lot softer than in the States, your hair and skin may not feel as clean even after washing. For this reason, it's best not to b
A common goal or resolution for the New Year that I often hear is to establish regular time in God's word, get closer to God, or put Him first. For some people, it's hard to study the Bible without the aid of a devotional or completing a formal Bible study book. Participating in Bible study classes and attending small groups that guide my study have been invaluable as far as increasing my

(Got the idea here; I warn you, this is a "lazy post") Steps in studying historical texts:
-- Forget your modern sensibilites.
-- Forget your set of morals.
-- Forget everything they taught you.
-- Don't regard anything, even primary sources (we're talking texts here), as absolute.
-- Remember that everything is subject to interpretation.

A few months ago Topix, a site with 50% of its traffic coming from Google, announced they were moving from Topix.net to Topix.com.The Wall Street Journal picked up the story and quite a lot of SEO people no doubt read it so lets see how the move is going so far.A search for "topix" brings up the new site no problems and the .com domain has over a million results indexed so is everything going well? The .net version still has 70,000 results indexed and the .net domain doesn't seem to redirect to the .com, even when I set my user agent to be Google.I'm confused as to why the site would buy a new domain to improve branding and not redirect traffic to the new site. Having 2 different sites is confusing for users and for search engines. Also, why are they selling links using Text Link Ads if they value Google traffic so highly? Do the advertisers on this page know they are paying money for a link with nofollow? Would you buy a tiny footer link with nofollow?--------------------------------
