Since I have been a freshman I have actively participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. This year was no different. I woke up this morning at 3:45am in order to be at Mizner Park for the 7th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Freshman year I walked and ever since then I have volunteered [...]
In newspaper headlines across America today, October 6th 2008, the Associated Press (AP) ran stories that say thousands made strides over the weekend to support a breast cancer fight. Nice articles and admirable but I find it totally futile and unproductive. Raising $36 million this year and other amounts since 1993 for the ‘fight against cancer’ is like bailing out Wall Street with $700 billi

There are people in our lives with whom we literally walk through life at our sides. Some stand out in my history:
In college, Bill was my very first friend (and the person ultimately responsible for introducing me to Terry). In one's freshman year of college, one spends a good deal of time walking around campus, figuring things out, checking out the surroundings. Bill was the one who I did
I wouldn’t presume to beat a dead horse, but so seldom is there any significant shift in life insurance underwriting that it bears as much good press as it can stand. While life insurance companies have, for a long time, been fairly tolerant of mild situational depression, many companies are now taking a new look [...]
With their last "big hit" receiving a FICCI award, FX Labs moves on to new challenges. Even though one could describe that hit, Agni, as ... challenged ... they will certainly know their way around...

My team, Sarah’s Rose has been formed, and emails sent to the team members!! I’m very excited for this and all it entails. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I’m very excited!! Unfortunately I’m going to miss a meeting on Tuesday night for team leaders because DC has a concert at school!

Amidst a busy day, I got an email from my good friend Heather Wynn. She's an amazingly talented jewelry and bead artist, and a truly beautiful person. Heather is participating in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Pensacola, FL. It's a great cause. Make a donation; I did! The Glasgow Daily Times ran an Op-Ed by Education Secretary Laura Owens today. Owens defends against recent suggestions that Education Reform in Kentucky is on life support. Her defense speaks for itself, but the secretary would do well to remember that student achievement is a lagging indicator. While many (including Franklin Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wingate) will agree that Kentucky has made great strides since 1990, the more recent record of legislative support and gubernatorial leadership in support of KERA is debatable.Academic gains are attributable to a lot of hard-working Kentuckians; students, parents, teachers, principals, superintendents, support staff, board members, citizens - and yes, the Fletcher administration and our legislative leaders can also claim a place on that list. But much more remains to be done if the administration hopes to dispell the doubt that still exists concerning the strength of this administration's commitment to reform - and earn a top spot on t
Indian Property Market is grabbing large attraction from cross-border investors as the Indian Government is considering about passing real estate investment trust (REIT) legislation.
Contrary to the trends in foreign markets, India offers little similarities between the real estate sector and the capital markets in India as there is no existing REIT legislation, explains Hari Kishan, Kotak Indian Realty Fund Chief investment officer.
However, the capital markets and real estate sector are expected to come together in the next three to four years. The move will certainly offer the best value, one of which is commercial property.
A high proliferation of IT companies in India has given a strong push to the growth of industrial parks and development of commercial property.
Earlier, making investments in Indian retail sector was not considered as attractive as it was in commercial properties. But, the trend is changing now. The main reason is the entry of international retailers, either t
HDIL, a real estate company with operations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, is priced handsomely as compared to its competitors and leaves enough for prospective investors.
Real estate stocks have attracted large interests on the bourses than any other sector during 2006. On the other hand, issues like Sobha Developers and Parsvnath Developers received formidable investor interest and cashed on listing.
High interest rates, soaring cement prices and fears of corrections in realty prices took away the luster from the sector. The market came back in its buoyant mode with DLF initial public offer (IPO) at Rs 9,187 crore.
HDIL has plans to raise between Rs 1,277 – 1,485 crore with an issue of 2.97 crore shares in the price band of Rs 430-500.
The issue has a greenhouse option of 4.45 million shares. HDIL will collect a market capitalization larger than Sobha Developers and Parsvnath Developers after the issue.
Around 80% of proceedings from the issue have been earmarked for construct
General Motors is doing pretty good on the green front. Not great, but they made a lot of progress over the past few months, and progress is always good to see! (Well, green progress is!)
GM is launching four different hybrid models this year. The Saturn Aura, Chev Malibu and the houses-on-wheels Tahoe and Yukon hybrid models will all be launched in the fall. GM is still working out the “all-important mix of power and fuel economy”, but should be good to go on all fronts by September 2007.
While the incentive for GM to go green isn’t all selfless and good — vice chairman Bob Lutz said that GM’s sales are “doomed” if they don’t challenge Toyota in the green market — it’s still nice to see one of the slowest companies to make a green moving doing something.

The amount of spam pumping out of China dropped precipitously in the first three months of 2007, security vendor Sophos PLC reported today. A year ago, computers in China were sending out 21.1% of all spam messages, but that number has steadily dropped over the past year, totaling just 7.5% in the most [...]
