Children who live along tree-lined streets have lower rates of asthma, according to new research.
Researchers based their findings on rates of asthma among 4 to 5 year olds, and hospital admissions for the disease among children up to 15, in 42 health service districts of New York City.
The medical data were then plotted against city data on the number of trees in each area. Asthma rates fell by almost a quarter for every standard deviation increase in tree density, equivalent to 343 trees per square kilometer. This pattern held true even after taking account of sources of pollution and population density.

Today the local climate action group Klimax performed their first traffic obstruction event.It was a rather peaceful and cheerful demonstration. The sun was shining and people were happy. A middle aged man was encouraged to jump rope. With its narrow streets and quite compact historical centre, Milan can be a nice place to explore by bike. I was asked to demo the camera along with an on-line Video editing and production platform called Mixpo, Video Advertising for small and medium sized businesses. This past week, I had the chance to "Take It To The Streets" and use them both in the field.I was given an opportunity to meet up with a few of the other ActiveRain members, so I wanted to put the camera and Mixpo to the test. This is just one way to use the Flip Video and on-line editing applications to produce many types of Marketing, Advertising, and Educational campaigns. With HIV/AIDS on the increase among young persons in The Bahamas, one group felt it necessary to take the message of awareness and prevention to the streets.
Youth Ambassadors for Positive Living (YAPL) took to Rawson Square on Friday to educate and inform young people about the overwhelming epidemic of HIV/AIDS within The Bahamas.
Keith Kemp, chairman of YAPL, told the Bahama Journal that there was a need to take a different approach to awareness and prevention education.

I was walking from church on this rainy Easter morning when I was stopped by a big group of really happy and friendly Koreans. I wasn't quite sure what was happening, but then someone handed me this.Yes, someone stopped me on the street and, with a big smile, handed me an Easter egg and wished me a happy Easter. They asked me a few questions and I told them I was just coming from Easter service at the local Anglican church. It turns out the group was a group of young people and some church elders from the local Presbyterian Church.
