The sensitive information included names, addresses, and credit card numbers. Tom Espiner - ZDNet.co.uk , April 23, 2008 - The Bank of Ireland has lost four laptops containing sensitive customer details of approximately 10,000 people.
The laptops were not encrypted, according to a Bank of Ireland spokesperson. Customer details lost include bank accounts, names, addresses and medical details. The laptops only had standard username and password logins by way of security, according to the spokesperson.
Customers affected are those who took out or obtained a quote for a life-insurance policy from Bank of Ireland Life from branches in Drogheda; Dunleer; Bagnelstown; Court Place, Carlow; Stephen's Green; Tallaght; and Montrose last year, according to a statement on the Bank of Ireland website.

According to the site, eight computers were stolen from the CCB plus a server. Other sites claim that the server was part of the eight computers; there is a lot of confusion, with everyone trying to upload the story ASAP. He tried, with an accomplice, to execute card fraud by encoding the stolen information on blank debit cards. Three Detroit men have been charged in what prosecutors say was a car theft ring that conned 119 people out of more than $1 million.
On Wednesday, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced 281 charges against 36-year-old Marlon Carter, 277 charges against 31-year-old Kevin Ball, and 11 charges against 35-year-old Kwame Sylvester.
She said the trio hunted for cars they wanted to steal — usually GM vehicles — recorded the vehicle identification numbers, or VINs, and gave them to an accomplice working at a car dealership who made keys for them. The cars could then be stolen by unlocking the doors and driving away.
Then, the defendants allegedly bought junk cars similar to the stolen ones and swapped the VINs to sell the stolen cars with clean VINs.

It was stolen about a month ago from a printer that specialized in printing customized benefit statements for district employees. The stolen computer was not encrypted nor was there any other type of data security measure in place.
