As I mentioned earlier, I hoped to visit several local yarn shops during my trip. Yesterday, following a rather busy day, I caught a cab over to Stitches East, (55 E 52ND St) the closest yarn shop to my hotel. I arrived at my destination to find the shop was in a beautiful, glass-covered high rise building. The shop itself was nestled between a haute couture dry cleaners and a haute couture clothi

Pessimism may slowly be filling the hearts of Labour supporters across Britain, but there appear some are still boundlessly optimistic about the future. Mike Ion instigates a new myth about Labour's electoral chances:Some of my fellow Labour bloggers, party activists and members have short memories. This last weekend, my friend and I headed into Central Washington State for a "Spring Break" roadtrip adventure. Our first stop was Seattle, and then we headed over the Snoqualmie Pass into Central Washington where we stopped by Grand Coulee Dam before heading down to the Tri-Cities area before heading home. I took with me my Dell XPS M1530 (PRODUCT) RED Laptop with me running of course Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED. I also took my Canon HV20 HD Camcorder, and a Canon Digital Rebel XTi - both of which are Certified for Windows Vista.
On the road, I focused mostly on photography. Many of the places we visited didn't really work well for video and I didn't feel me standing in front of the camera playing "tour guide" would be of any real value. I relied heavily of course on Windo

I was doing dishes this morning and cut my finger on a glass that broke in my hand while I was washing it. So I rushed to the hospital and had 8 stitches!! Now the pain shots have worn off and it hurts bad. Also it was my index finger on my right hand! I am trying to type this with my left hand only. So I might be taking a couple of days off of blogging.

This technique is actually inspired by one of my forum challenges which is to create a layout using "Stonehenge" as inspiration. This layout consists of twelve photographs which is rather difficult to scrap as they are individuals photographs and are not link with a common event. They are actually photographs of members of the Stonehenge support group in one of the forum that I'm in.In this layout, I've hand stitched lines of rectangles to link of the photographs together. The rectangles resembles the "stonehenge" rocks. This might sounds a weird technique but it works fine for this layout. To see the finished layout, you can refer to "The Stonehenge Sisters" layout in my others gallery.
Double Your Way To A Million - Selling, Ideas and Stitches...The last 2 weeks have been very interesting.Remember how my dog cut herself and got 6 (not 5 !) stitches ? So far she has managed to pull 5 of the 6 just by being a crazed Bullmastiff. She is going to have a nasty scar but luckily I've never been into showing dogs !!Everystep I reach on this doubling journey, I reveal a little more about myself. The last step I put a pic up which is very frightening :DI'm going to break that now and tell you that I'm also a closet artist. My Grandmother was a fairly prolific artist here between the 60's and 80's... Pearl Daniels(If any NZers have a Pearl Daniels painting that I don't have already I would be interested )Well anyway, I was a self taught artist until I did 2 years at high school and then studied a bachelor of Graphic Arts.At The Doublers Den people were chatting about selling sketches for their doubling stake and Arkad mentioned 1,000 paintings. This guy put blue numbers on
Pete Doherty comes to Kate's rescue has he carry's her into Harley Street clinic where she'd just had 10 stitches in her foot. Most of us go to the emergency room but hey if your a celebrity you can turn up at Harley Street and get the works. The supermodel had stepped on a glass picture frame at her Cotswolds home on Sunday. She soldiered on bravely until 3pm when the pain got too much and she hopped to her car followed by Pete. She later emerged smiling from 45 minutes of surgery and Pete scooped her up in his arms - perhaps not realising he was putting the beauty's big knickers on full display. We're told: "Kate was in hysterics and when photographers asked her what was wrong she laughed 'Like I'm telling you.'"
It's a funny old business - UK Workers spend 24 working days a year in stitchesÂ
New research today reveals that UK workers spend an average of 45 minutes each day having a good giggle. That's the equivalent of half a day (3.75 hours) per week and 24 working days each year - 4 days more than the average UK worker's annual holiday allowance.
The study of 1,000 UK workers was carried out by MSN Video - the online entertainment channel - to coincide with the launch of Ed Byrne's Bytes - a series of daily comedy clips aimed at workers looking for some light relief throughout the day.
Girls just wanna have fun
According to the survey, men take their job more seriously than women, with female workers laughing for 51 minutes per day compared to their male colleagues who laugh for just 39 minutes each day. Older workers find less to amuse them at work - 55-64 year olds laugh least (38 minutes), compared to 18-24 year olds who giggle for almost an hour each day. The Midlands wo
Forgive me if this topic has already been addressed, but can anyone tell me if you have had the experience of your sewing machine sewing "crooked" or slightly slanted stitches, and how do I remedy this? Is it a matter of adjusting tension? Thanks for any info you have for me!Last post by Rhonda in Montreal at Sun 29 Jul 2007 11:48:10 PM Total posts: 9

I'm making a costume and want to sew in some body padding in the front. It's a unitard - Kwik Sew 3052 and made up with nylon lycra swimwear fabric. I'd LIKE to zigzag it on by machine, but in the event I can't do that, what hand stitch/es would work best to attach the padding?
The padding itself is polyfoam encased in light knit interlock and has a flange on it so no I'm not sewing through foam, just the flange and the nylon lycra.
Hope there's still some hand sewists out there.
I've just signed up to take sewing lessons (first time ever). Neddless to say my wife recommended that I purchase a new sewing machine complete with an instruction manual/ warranty/free lessons/local dealer support/etcetera/ etcetera. Despite all of these wonderful benefits I have acquired a vintage Sears Kenmore Model 148.1000 (large/portable/solid metal/no instruction manual and weighs as much as a WW II tank) to take to the classes. (mmmm was this a wise choice???).
After spending roughly ten hours dismantling the machine, thoroughly cleaning/lubricating all of the component parts, reassemblying the machine (some trial and error @ this stage), winding and installing the bobbin, threading the machine (sheesh I wish I had a manual or at the very least a diagram) I think this just may work.
My first attempt at sewing a simple straight stitch looked reasonably healthy from the top (surprised) but when I turned the fabric over every couple of inches the thread appears to be bunchn

I have recently acquired a Bernina 707. I was previously owned and has been gently used, but never serviced. I have cleaned and oiled it, and have arranged for it to be serviced, but just had to have a 'play'. The straight stitch is beautiful, but when I tried out the other stitches, they just did not sew out as shown in the instruction book. The book does say to adjust this lever, and that dial, which I have done, but am still having problems. Is this due to new user error, do you think, and I just need to practice more? Or could there be a problem with the machine?
I will have to leave the machine with my local sewing shop, who are agents for the Bernina service people, so would want to explain any immediate concerns for the engineer to check out, but that's not until next week.

Hi,
I am wondering if any of the newer mechanical machines have applique stitches. I started out looking for a mechanical machine and have been drawn into the electronic machines. I know they offer so much more versatility and a very wide range of stitch options. In fact, I am seriously looking at a Brother NX250. I started out with a $400 budget but have bumped it up to $600 now, so will be starting to look all over again.
Do you know of any mechanical sewing machines that offer applique stitches such as blanket or decorative stitches that would be suitable for applique? Most of the ones I have seen have pretty much just the utility stitches plus one or two decorative stitches which really weren't what I had in mind.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sharon
