Sony stays around the top of the environment-friendly companies
Kratos, Mario and Master Chief together? Inserito originariamente da Abriael Greenpeace just released the new report for their Guide to greener electronics, that ranks the 18 top manufacturers of personal computers, mobile phones, TV's and games consoles according to their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling. It seems that Sony stays around the top of the list, with a good (but not yet perfect) score of 7.3, expecially thanks to their recycling and takeback policies (the worst enviromental impact of gaming console is, in fact, due to their disposal). While Microsoft scores quite badly (4.3), Nintendo takes the absolute bottom of the list with an abysmal 0.3 (on their behalf it has to be noted that they both improved their position since the last report, even if the improvement

Yes we can: Barack Obama stays on message
Sen. Barack Obama is doing well in his bid for the US Democratic nomination because he has a consistent brand. You didn’t need me to tell you that. He has consistent visuals and a message that hasn’t wavered much. He hasn’t needed to go into depth, as his nearest opponent is saying, because it’s not part of the Obama brand. And he’s not about to change his tune, showing Americans that his visions can be depended upon.   I see the word Change consistently at Obama rallies, not just spoken by him but plastered on banners and other material. It’s consistently in the same typeface. In fact, his campaign has been clever enough not even to show his name prominently, which might look a little foreign—Change is what appears in bigger letters, Obama taking a back seat. In Te

Eurozone Inflation Stays at a Record 3.1% - ECB Has No Room For a Cut
Who wants to be in the shoes of the governing council of the European Central Bank (ECB) next Thursday? Despite all statistical tricks Eurozone inflation remained unchanged at a record 3.1% last December, overshooting the ECB's target of 2% by a horrific 55%. As blogged yesterday money supply M3 growth remained at a record 12.3% for the second consecutive month too. This is almost 3 times more than the target rate of 4.5% M3 growth. (You win a free subscription to The Prudent Investor if you can find this reference value on the ECB's website in less than 5 minutes.)If the ECB would really stick to its mandate of fighting inflation (which central banks with their unbacked fiat currencies create in the first place) it would come to no other conclusion than to raise its reference rate, curre

      For Now Dennis Stays Put
McLaren team boss Ron Dennis is under fire once again as the fallout from the espionage investigation threatens to swallow him and the team.  Pressure for Ron Dennis to resign is mounting following McLaren’s apology to the FIA, Ferrari, and F1 fans throughout the globe.  The £1million investigation into the 2008 car has shown Ferrari technical data was far more widespread than originally reported.  However, Dennis remains defiant and at the time of this story is refusing to resign even as Mercedes, engine supplier to McLaren are reported to be very angry  it’s name although indirectly involved has been dragged through the mud. bbxxy42-1822a470d2-55 “I’m not going to quit. That is 100 per cent.” “I know there are people out there who want me to retire, but I’m not. I do not think it would be in the best interests of the team.” The apology given last week does seem to be a little bit of grovelling, but as each day

How S'pore stays at the top of the game
With its 7.9 per cent growth last year, it has been called a developed country growing at developing-nation rates. Bryan Lee explains this anomaly. It is almost a given that in the global rankings for economic growth, poor countries typically fill the top spots while rich nations bring up the rear.Last year's top three - Azerbaijan, the Maldives and Angola - clocked in impressive expansion of between 18 and 31 per cent. But they were anything but wealthy: Their citizens took home an average income of less than US$3,000 (S$4,300) that year.In contrast, the United States, the world's biggest economy, grew a paltry 2.9 per cent. Against this long-standing trend, Singapore stands out as an anomaly. At 7.9 per cent, Singapore's economic performance puts it more in the league of emerging growth stars such as China and India than in the comparatively tired ranks of the US, Europe and Japan.Yet the Republic is one of the most affluent countries in the world, coming in at No. 25 in per capita
