In 2005 the Montgomery County district attorney's office held a party at the county fair in east Texas. They had beer, liquor and a margarita machine. The district attorney, Mike McDougal, at first denied that this had been paid for by drug money. He acknowledged that his office had a margarita machine at the fair. In fact, he said, they won first prize for best margarita. But he insisted th

Inspired to save? I hope so. But maybe you're wondering where the money will come from. I put my head together with Jeff Yeager, author of The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches, to suggest ten places to start.1. Adjust your withholding. If you get a tax refund each year, you're giving the government a free loan. Change your withholding, then save the difference in your take-home pay.Sa

The EU finance ministers called on the European Commission to bring forward a review of the savings tax directive to May if possible, and then come up with reform proposals "in due time.""The commission will prepare a report on the functioning of the savings taxation directive and on the basis of this report the commission will present some legislative proposals if appropriate," EU Tax Commissioner Laszlo Kovacs told reporters. In its present form, the savings tax directive requires EU members to share tax information with one other on interest income kept by account holders from other EU countries. However, it was only agreed after special arrangements were made for Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, which were eager to protect their banking secrecy practices.

Hall of dreamsWhat I wouldn't give to be this guy from TwinTurbo.net, who got an exclusive tour of Nissan's normally closed-to-the-public storage facility in Zama, Japan. The collection of cars held within is simply staggering, from classic postwar vehicles to Le Mans racers and every variant of Skyline imaginable. Nissan maintains a searchable database of the vehicles held in the collection here.
Campaigns across America can breathe a sigh of relief. It has been reported that all of the quotas for ugly and unflattering pictures of opponents in upcoming campaigns have been filled.“We have more than enough ugly pictures to take us through the 2008 Presidential Election,” said a Republican consultant helping one of the Presidential candidates, “Hillary Clinton is a gold mine of nasty expressions, it’s almost like she can’t help herself.”Unflattering pictures are the staple of a hard hitting campaign flyers and commercials. Pictures of candidates doing mundane things tend to look much more sinister when they are presented in black and white or with ominous music in the background. Campaigns across Arizona are also reporting that their picture needs have been met.“You can never be too early with the ugly pictures,” explained on political insider, “I got this great one of Harry Mitchell with his eyes closed making a silly face. It will be solid for one of the Republ

Drug Dealer calls cops after pot stash stolenSeptember 7th, 2007 by Nick A marijuana dealer telephoned police after armed thieves stole his quarter-pound stash of pot. The 19-year-old Felton man told police that two men, one of them armed with a handgun, robbed him at gunpoint as he sat in his car on Tuesday night.“It was unique to have people who were dealing drugs calling us when they’ve been ripped off,” police spokesman Zach Friend said. After the thieves made off with his stash, the dealer telephoned police. When police arrived, the dealer’s story became progressively confused.First he showed officers a medical marijuana card and told them he bought the pot at a medical marijuana dispensary. Then he said he got the pot from a friend. Eventually the dealer admitted he had arranged to sell the marijuana to the men who stole it from him, investigators said. The Felton dealer wasn’t arrested.“From our standpoint, it’s more important to address the fact there are individual

So I feel the need to start collecting for my baby stash for real now (I should probably point out this post to avoid confusion, I am not pregnant, and am sure that I am pretty infertile). Who knows when “it” will happen, but we can never be too prepared. After all, I don’t think the current baby gear will be going out of style any time soon, sooo Drea’s giving away a onesie and baby legs set from My Rockstar Baby. Her little “burger” looks so cute in his sets.
The Pinks & Blues Girls are giving away 2 more DKNY totes, these won’t be filled with goodies, but who cares!?
Facipiers and Stinky Toes is giving away a Marshall diaper bag set from Baby Brown’s. Perfect bag for dad, aye?
I’ll try to update this post with some more contests, keep checking back.

A man under indictment for stealing a woman’s kimono had collected about 8,200 items of women’s underwear and other clothing at his one-room apartment here and wrapped himself in some of the clothes when he slept, investigators said.
Local police were forced to mobilize five mini buses to transport the clothing — including a wedding dress — they had confiscated from the apartment to the police station.
The suspect, 60-year-old Maeyasu Kawamura, admitted that he had stolen a massive amount of women’s clothes. “Over the past decade I’ve randomly stolen women’s clothes and underwear,” he was quoted as saying during questioning.

With Reef’s Stash sandal you can stow your emergency credit card and cash while traveling.
The sandal contains a secret compartment in the heel that slides out and holds whatever you want to stash.
Carrying emergency funds while traveling is always a good idea because you never know when wayward pickpocket’s hands will find their way into your wallet or purse.
Most of your valuables should be carried in some sort of security pouch (money belt, neck pouch, etc.) but for a little extra piece of mind you can store extra funds in your flops.
The flops themselves meet Travelista standards as they are neither too sporty (in darker colors) nor too cheesy (like those super platform flip flops that I hate!). The black and brown versions are sleek and simple and will complement most travel ensembles. I have also found Reef sandals to be comfortable enough for walking in.
Reef sandals were originally geared for surfer types, but remember not to adapt a casual surfer look when pl
Another idea for using up all those bits of fabric that you have left over from previous projects.
U-Handbag has posted this great tutorial for creating a small coin post from your remnants. The purse uses a 4" (10cm) flexible frame that can be purchased from most outlets or from U-Handbag themselves. The finished product is therefore not much bigger than this so it is a good purse for coins,
So where do you put your cash, credit cards and car keys when you just want to head to the beach without carrying any bags etc. Well, you can always ask your partner to look after your stuff or you can get a pair of Reef Stash Sandals and place your cash, credit cards and car keys in the removal compartment hidden in the heal of the sandal.
The Stash sandals are another addition to the Reef range (see Drink in a Sandal), that just make being on the beach that much more ‘hassle free’.
Have you ever needed some place to put your car key and credit cards when you are off to the beach? Well, the Reef 1527 Stash Sandals have been designed allow you to 'stash' some personal items in the heel of the sandal. There is not much space, but you should be able to store a credit card, some money and your car key. The 'Stash' sandal specs are:JERSEY LINING WITH POLYESTER WEBBING TOE POST MOLDED EVA MIDSOLE, WITH BUILT IN ARCH SUPPORT NYLON DRAWER CASING ENCLOSED IN SOFT POLYURETHANE FEATURES A PULL OUT DRAWER FOR YOU TO "STASH" YOUR TREASURES DURABLE RUBBER OUTSOLE SYNTHETIC NUBUCK UPPER & UNDERLAY The ‘Stash’ compartment does not look waterproof to me, so keep that in mind when you are strolling along the beach.Priced around $45.99Source: Reef.
At least that is what Matt Potts of Archport claims, and he does have a patent (US Patent 6,094,844) to back up his claim. Matt's e-mail was probably prompted by our previous post on the stash sandals. If Matt's company was indeed the first to incorporate a hidden pocket in shoes, it seems that someone liked the idea so much they decided to make their own version. And if that is not the ultimate praise, we don't know what is. And besides, Archport makes stash sneakers, too. The Archport sandals and sneakers are available in different colors (tha sandals) from Archport or from Amazon at USD 42:45 (sandals-) and USD 79:95 (sneakers-).
Hide your valuables in your flip-flops. The Reef Stash sandals ($46) are the perfect product for beach goers and the casual-set. No pockets are required when you can store your credit cards, cash, and a key or two in this Bright Idea. It also reduces the likelihood that you leave something behind (like a wallet) since you are going to notice going barefoot. Buy them HERE; via Ubergizmo.com.

Previously we have posted on the hidden pocket travel socks and the secret stash cap. Now the time has come for the hidden compartment flip-flops. Inside the sole there is a tray you can use to hide credit cards, keys, money and other small and flat stuff. The sandals comes from Reef and they are USD 46:- on Spydersurf webshop and others. Alas they seem to be available in ladies sizes only.
If you have a kid (or kids) and haven’t read Dad Gone Mad yet, you owe it to yourself to read the site on a regular basis. Every time I read something on the site I laugh out loud (LOL). Seriously. I have been a closet reader of the site and haven’t professed my love of the site in their comments, but recently he linked to Candy Addict. The post where he did this talks about his and his wife’s candy stash and how one of his kids almost discovered it. Finally an excuse to mention his site on mine! It’s really funny stuff. Take a read and I dare you not to laugh or at least smile while reading it. Besides being seriously funny, it is extremely well-written.
Please note - his site isn’t exactly family-friendly (language), but it’s definitely family-funny!
Dad Gone Mad’s Candy Stash
Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) was an Irish-born British explorer who tried to conquer Antarctica on several expeditions. During one failed attempt to reach the South Pole in 1908, Shakleton and his team built a hut on Ross Island and waited for nine months as temperatures dipped to -58 degrees.Part of what helped the crew pass the time was a stash of 12 cases of MacKinlay's Scotch, an Edinburgh distiller that had agreed a year earlier to serve as the expedition's official whisky supplier. After coming within 98 miles of reach their goal, the Shakleton expedition had to rush to leave Antarctica before the winter trapped them. The group left behind excess supplies in their haste to leave. Now a conservation team excavating ice from beneath Shackleton's hut has found two cases of the Scotch fully intact. The New Zealand-lead team decided to leave the whisky in the hut. One could only imagine what two cases of 100 year old Scotch might fetch at auction, especially with the historical s
6 charged in human smuggling case
Federal officials have charged six men with harboring scores of illegal immigrants who were found packed into a house in a quiet southeast Houston neighborhood, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.
The one-story residence was one of many “stash houses” that smugglers use in Houston for holding illegal immigrants until they can be moved elsewhere or released after relatives pay a fee, investigators said.
Charged are Felipe Muniz-DeLaMora, Jose Garcia-Garcia, Luis Alberto Lara-Gutierrez, David Palomera-Romero, Juan Carlos Perales-Solis and Nelson Sergio Aguinaga-Aleman.
No other information about them had been released late Friday. They are scheduled to appear on Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Frances Stacy.
14 children held
Federal officials said 67 people were found in a one-story house in the 7000 block of Schley about 12:30 p.m. Thursday after a man flagged down a Houston police officer and pleaded for help.

I'm thinking about sewing from stash and trying to use some stash, but there is no way I have the willpower or even, frankly, the desire to not buy any fabric ever again in favor of sewing what I have.
I think it'd be a good idea to have a place to keep track of what goes out vs what comes in, so that some sort of parity can at least be maintained. Anyone else interested?Last post by ReBecca at Wed 03 Oct 2007 09:26:54 AM Total posts: 268

This is related to the fabric fast. It's open ended in that you make up your own rules for what works for you. However, I am going to start us out with some ideas and inspiration.
On the fabric fast thread, some are working to sew down their fabric stash by joining in the wardrobe competition. This is a wonderful idea! Most of us buy fabrics we would want to wear and, if we have a considerable stash, have plenty of coordinating fabrics to build a wardrobe from without going shopping!
This idea is a twist on that. I'm going to post a link to a basic wardrobe description. This is from 2005, and so it may need updating. But, it's so classic that it probably can be used as is for all but the most trendy of us.
My suggestion is that we all look at and read the article in the link and, using
It seems to be that time of year when so many PR bloggers are cleaning out their sewing areas and deciding to pass along unwanted stash.
Before you cart off the boxes or bags of yardage to Goodwill or the Salvation Army store, call them to find out what they do with yard goods.
In this area, fabric goes straight into the shredder to eventually to become pulp for recycling.
Some alternative ideas if your local Goodwill doesn't accept yard goods:
1. Try freecycle or Craigslist. You can require whomever is accepting the fabric to take all of it, and to come to a place you designate as convenient to pick it up from you.
2. Local theater groups or school theater departments. Sometimes fabric for their costume inventory is gratefully accepted, sometimes they don't have any need for it either.
