Renault has not been penalised for possession of confidential data belonging to its rival McLaren because there was no proof that the team benefited from it.
That is the finding of the World Motor Sport Council, released today after its verdict in the case was announced yesterday.
It has been acknowledged, both by Renault and by the WMSC, that former McLaren Chief Engineer took a substantial amount of information with him when he changed teams.
But the hearing did not find convincing evidence that this information had been disseminated widely around the French team.
The WMSC statement said: “Mackereth took a much more significant volume of information from McLaren including some confidential information, some information that was not proprietary to McLaren and some personal financial information.
“The WMSC can be concerned only with what Renault had access to (rather than what Mackereth took) from McLaren as only the former could impact the FIA Formula One World Champions
The Renault Formula One team has walked out of a courtroom in Monaco having been found guilty of possessing confidential information belonging to another team - but has remained unpunished.
The World Motorsport Council found Renault in breach of the regulations for its actions over computer disks with details of the McLaren car. But it imposed no penalty and said that it will issue its detailed reasoning tomorrow (Dec 7).
Its judgment is similar to the one it initially came to in the McLaren spy row that blew up in July this year.
The team was originally let off the hook in similar circumstances and then called back into court after new evidence came to light.
It was this second hearing that exposed the existence of email correspondence between McLaren’s drivers and disgraced chief designer Mike Coughlan.
The FIA has reportedly reserved the right to call Renault back into court should further evidence come to light in this second case.

“After all the restrictions that Steve Jobs has imposed on the owners of Apple iPhone, now it turns out that Apple is probably secretly collecting personal data from any iPhone.
A power user has found bits of code in the iPhone, that may collect and send personal data, such as IMEI, IP address, and companies you are interested in, to an Apple server via the Weather and Stocks applications. The sent information however is encrypted, so it is not that sure whether it holds the IMEI code of your iPhone.”

‘Representatives of the Renault F1 Team have been requested to appear before a hearing of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Monaco on Thursday, December 6, 2007.
‘The team representatives have been called to answer a charge that between September 2006 and October 2007, in breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, the Renault F1 Team had unauthorised possession of documents and confidential information belonging to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, including, but not limited to the layout and critical dimensions of the McLaren F1 car, together with details of the McLaren fuelling system, gear assembly, oil cooling system, hydraulic control system and a novel suspension component used by the 2006 and 2007 McLaren F1 cars.’

Let me say once again that this program was not, and is not, a domestic spying program in the first place, but that is the way it has been presented to the American people, so it is the term I will continue to use.
Last week the president signed a bill passed by the house and the senate that continues the foreign surveillance program. For my take on this you can read this. The quick version of my take is, if the Democrats were elected on a mandate, and if the president was spying on innocent Americans, they would never have passed this bill.
Now the ultra-liberal group, MoveOn.org is slamming the Democrats. (more…)
Okay, sane, thinking Americans know that this was never a domestic spying program, but that never stopped the Democrats from portraying it that way.
The Senate, in a high-stakes showdown over national security, voted late Friday to temporarily give President Bush expanded authority to eavesdrop on suspected foreign terrorists without court warrants. The House, meanwhile, rejected a Democratic version of the bill.
Notice how the article calls them foreign terrorists now? Isn’t that something? All this time Democrats have been telling us that president Bush is spying on US. Now that the Democrats have to vote on it their lie has been exposed. If it was really a DOMESTIC spying program they would never have voted for this bill. Democrats have been caught in another lie.
The Democrats know and always knew that this program is vital to national security, and were not willing to take the hit voting against a program that they said was illegal before last November’s elect

I'm sure YearlyKos is all fired up over this.It does, however, need to be reauthorized in February, so it's not the WORST thing the Senate's ever done.Besides, Bush did an excellent job here backing them into a wall in the last few days of the session.

So long, ScottHa. You thought the F1 spying saga was over? Think again. After a snotty letter from the head of the Italian automobile federation, Max Mosely has agreed to let Ferrari present their case in front of the FIA's Court of Appeal. The new hearing will take place in Paris at the end of August, meaning at least two more Grand Prixs will now take place with the shadow of a possible McLaren punishment hanging over them.Elsewhere, Scuderia Torro Rosso have finally had enough of Scott Speed. If you considered yourself a happy owner of a color laser printer, you probably won’t be so happy any longer.
In 2005 Electronic Frontier Foundation, an organization supporting customers’ freedoms in the world of electronics, made a discovery that didn’t have much publicity. Every document printed on most color laser printers includes a set of yellow dots used to identify the printer. These dots are invisible to naked eye, but can be clearly seen under microscope or intense blue light.
The dots make up a pattern unique to each printer, so it’s possible to identify the serial number, make and model of printer. Given that most of color laser printers sell directly from the manufacturer or through well-documented service providers, it becomes easy to track the owner of printer. So, everything you print can, and pretty much will, be used against you.
Why on earth, something like this would happen? One of the reasons why might be an agreement of US government and most printer manufa

Today a federal appeals court voted 2-1 to dismiss an ACLU lawsuit against the foreign surveillance program. This is the program more commonly and inaccurately reffered to as the domestic spying program by the main stream media and by the left in general. This is a victory for president Bush.
Here is the whole article from apnews.myway.com:
CINCINNATI (AP) - A federal appeals court Friday ordered the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging President Bush’s domestic spying program, saying the plaintiffs had no standing to sue.The 2-1 ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel vacated a 2006 order by a lower court in Detroit, which had found the post-Sept. 11 warrantless surveillance aimed at uncovering terrorist activity to be unconstitutional, violating rights to privacy and free speech and the separation of powers.U.S. Circuit Judge Julia Smith Gibbons, one of the two Republican appointees who ruled against the plaintiffs, said they failed to show they were subject to th

Along with the subpoenas, Leahy also wrote, “Over the past 18 months, this committee has made no fewer than nine formal requests to the Department of Justice and to the White House, seeking information and documents about the authorization of and legal justification for this program.” Later, Leahy said that “there is no legitimate argument for withholding the requested materials,” and that “the administration cannot thwart the Congress’s conduct of its constitutional duties sweeping assertions of secrecy and privilege.”
In response, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said, “It’s unfortunate that congressional Democrats have decided to choose confrontation,” an

Anyway, what I am talking about here is about a series coming up that will be starting this June the 28th with Michael Weston starring as the main character-leading man I supposed, a CIA Operative on USA Network's new TV series, Burn Notice, will show us his skills. Wired has a great article about internet service providers and their privacy policies. From the article:
Wired News, with help from some readers, attempted to get real answers from the largest United States-based ISPs about what information they gather on their customers’ use of the internet, and how long they retain records like IP addresses, e-mail and real-time browsing activity. The gesture turned out to be futile.“I was convinced he would be a
Stop Illegal Spying: "The president has violated the law and the Fourth Amendment by allowing the National Security Agency to spy on the communications of millions of ordinary Americans.
