The whole day was such a blur that I can barely remember how it began. I woke up in my apartment, raging hard-on as usual. Isn't that the way these tales always begin? It was January and really god damn cold outside. It was Saturday, so fortunately I didn't have to go to class. I didn't even want to leave the building. Three below zero even without the god damn wind chill. I had lived alone there
That would be right. The highway between my place and the city is closed this morning because it's covered in snow at Mount Nelson. I could have had the day off work (well at least worked from home via the magic of the Internet) but instead I'm tucked up in bed with a chest infection feeling like garbage. I know us guys like to sook and moan whenever we get a little bit of a sniffle, but
I think teachers enjoy a good snow day as much as the kids do. I still feel the same excitement I had as a child when snow is in the forecast. I am hoping, anticipating a day off of school. So today when the phone rang at 5:20am to let us know [...]
I grew up not too far from the hotel in which I am currently staying. During the winter, almost every night I would go to sleep hoping and praying for a snow storm big enough to cancel -- or at least delay -- school.Last night, I was hoping against hope that the predicted storm would be small enough that court wouldn't be cancelled. I just want the case to get over with already. But that was not to be. It's snowing pretty hard here:
Today the weather in St. Louis is very cold. It's only 20*F so far this morning, and there is freezing rain falling from the sky!
The school district called and canceled school for today, which means that mom and dad get to stay home and play with Emmett today.
What would you do with a whole day off?
Emmett apparently had his own ideas!
By 11am he went and got his stuffed monkey and blanket, and stood next to the rocking chair until I lifted him up into it. He only lasted 5 more minutes and then he was out.
As we were walking through the security checkpoint to kick off the first flight of the day this morning, a gate agent for Big Brother made the anouncement in the already overflowing passenger terminal that all flights for the day were cancelled. The reason for the cancellations: snow accumulating so quickly that the plows couldn't keep up to clear the runway. Big Brother requires a 100-foot wide clearing on the runway from all snow. But, not us. Our flight was still a go....that is, until we turned the power button on....and no juice. Dead batteries. Not going anywhere today. Replacement batteries will need to be flown in and installed.
Great crews in situations like this make all the difference. Fortunate for us, there's a good gym at the hotel for PT and a warm pub within
Here is a nice long picture post to make up for all the paid posts that are below! Wesley is home today because it's SNOWING again. At this rate the kids will be in school until July. GEESH! Maybe that will be a good thing though?!? Hmmm.....Anyway! Here are some photos of our crazy morning! Also a few snow photos from my front door.My maple tree that is right out front. I love this tree because it lets all the warm sun into the the living room all winter and then it shades us in the Summer. My tiny silver maple that is buried. You can see the Summer version here.My neighbors house! The one that I mentioned here! (He just got back from work and is doing it again! Man oh man!!)Lani used Michael's Christmas gift from his work as a stroller for her baby. Michael is irritated with this gift because he is a TRUCK DRIVER! What is he going to do with a lap top bag?!? A nice fat bonus would have been nice. Especially since he works for a HUGE company that makes a lot of money! I know...stop c

While working for myself from home means I no longer get to take a snow day, I still get that cozy comfortable feeling when I glance out my bedroom window in the morning to find the world outside covered in white. We had a party at Lynn last night which we called Snow Day, but the snow never showed up! Aparently, the pump was broken on the truck that was supposed to be bringing in the snow.
I am shocked, with all people we had there, not one of them was able to fix it???
Oh well, I had a ton of fun with my friends, although, I spent the whole night hungry for some reason.
It has been over a month that I have been planning Snow Day. From the booths, advertisement, club involvement, the snow, coffee, and music, it would seem that the event was going to be a success.
I had no plans today. My complete focus was going to be on Snow Day. After having lunch with Mark, sloppy joes and mac & cheese, I was informed that Snow Day shirts had to come to a halt. A member of KAT was really enthusiastic to make shirts for Snow Day to raise money for Relay for Life. Unfortunately, during the revision and approval of the proof a typo wasn’t found. The front of the T-Shirt read, “Lynn Get’s Snowed In!” There is no apostrophe needed in the “Get”. The individual who created the shirt was disappointed when I informed them that we had to stop sales. I tried to explain that everyone makes mistake and we learn from them, but it was still a disappointment.
I began setting up at 2pm, three hours prior to the event. I wanted everything to b
Send them into the sun and snow.Don't fret when they get wet.Lend them your favorite scarf; it's their favorite, too.Greet their snowwoman like an old family friend.Invite her to join you for cocoa when it's time to go in.Duck your head good-naturedly when they chide you, "Oh, Mom! You're so silly! She will MELT!"Warm them inside and out.Fill their bath with bubbles.Toast their socks in the dryer.Serve them cocoa that's more warm than hot.Paint their tiny toenails with more polish and sparkle than color, a nod to their femininity yet a preservation of their little-girlness.Read them a soft, sweet, simple story.Hold their hands when they nod off.Pretend not to notice that, yes, they really did need a nap.Kiss their fragrant heads.Say, "I love you."They can hear you, even when they're sleeping. This entry first appeared on 1.29.2005.
Hooray, Hooray! I am so THRILLED, we have finally had our first snow! It's probably 3 inches deep and it's swirling and blowing. It's very heavy snow out there.Isn't it beautiful out there? It's cold outside, and my hubby still have to go to work. Before he head out to work,we brought the kids to a nearby park to play.Snow angel Play snow ball fightsThe kids played snowball fights, catch snowflakes on their tongue and make a snow angels....Rolled a big snowball Snowmen are harder to make than you might think,it took me and my hubby to lift the heavy parts....and it's hard to make a round shape. It's a nice workout though.............................Two days of Snow can take 2 weeks to melt over here.During Winter days I require either a hot chicken soup or hot chocolate for the kids.Phewwww at last!I did it.
Today it is snowing. And not just a little bit. It is dumping. It’s gorgeous as you can see. I was going to go to the USDAA agility trial (I am not entered) and work with Chase and socialize Tatum, but I don’t want to make that 20 mile drive in this kind of snow. Hopefully we can go tomorrow. No flyball for a while, now, since there is too much snow on the ground. We won’t be seeing any wedding flowers for a while.
The smooth collies have all been out playing in the snow, Tatum most of all. She has been soaking wet all day. I don’t think she ever saw snow in Texas (do they have snow in Texas?) and she was outside playing with anyone who would stay with her. Chase and Tony, mainly, though not at the same time. It was very cute to see her so wet!
We also did some training this morning with the collies and the border collie, and things are going so well! Lucy has found her calling. She thinks Find The Peanut Butter Under the Spoon is the best game

It totally snowed today. This is the first snow for Becca (that she would remember). I excitedly ran to her room and carried her to the patio doors to show her the snow falling. J took the kids out to the pond, while I baked and cooked dinner. It was so wonderful to see Becca so excited about the snow fall.
I love the smell of winter. That crisp clean smell. Mmm I can hardly wait to get to Halifax and experience it there.
I think we have found an apartment. Unless some dreamy place jumps in front of us, we are waiting for pictures of the inside then we will send a cheque. All this leg work has left me exhausted, stressed and not sleeping. I have woken up before 5 am, just to call people on the east coast. Why my head cannot accept that it can wait till a decent time locally I have not a clue. I need for all to be settled.
I am really anxious as of late. So I have picked up my knitting needles and have been frantically knitting. Knitting creates a zen state for me. I am more patient, m
It took me a while to get around to editing these, but here’s one of the shots taken last month.
Wow, snow here in Mississippi. It was beautiful. You can view the rest of the photos at my Flickr site.
It snowed all day yesterday and most of today. I didn't have time to get outside with the camera, so I'll share some Flickr favorites instead. These are all taken in Ohio, and I have to admit that, at least when it comes to snow scenery? Ohio does beat Delaware.
I took Cameron outside a couple of days ago when we finally had some decent snow showers. Believe it or not, this was Cameron's first time discovering snow. My little guy refused to wear his gloves for fear that he would lose his favorite John Deere tractors. So we were not out too long (it was a chilly 27 degrees). Where is Ava, you ask? Hanging out with Nana Cheryl for the day. The poor guy tripped and fell on one of the bushes when he was looking up at the snow falling that's why he had a little snow on his coat. He didn't care, though. He laughed the whole time.
It snowed an inch overnight, and it seems like just about every school in the DC Urrea is closed or on some kind of delay. This is pure comedy to me. Back home in the tundra, an inch of snow is nothing but an annoyance. I saw people here stocking up on water and batteries like the apocalypse was coming. I'm afraid to see what would happen if we got some real snow here.Anyhoo, I'm home sick today and probably tomorrow too. I fell and busted my ass in the shower last night and ended up bruising a kidney and at the doctor today found out that I also have a kidney stone on the same side. So I'm in take it easy mode all day since I'm in pain. I'm gonna try and get my taxes done and catch up on some at-home paperwork. But more than likely I'll fall victim to my sofa and these horse-pill painkillers I was prescribed and end up napping like the doc told me to. What a way to enjoy a snow day right? Two thumbs waaaay down.
Remember when I was lamenting winter's absence earlier this year?I take it all back. There is a sidewalk and a few rocks under there somewhere.I think that's my car under the snow drift.First was the snow, and now we have nothing but freezing rain and ice falling, which will turn back to snow tonight. The entire city - schools, libraries, city government, universities (even Ohio State!), major businesses - has been shut down.Well, the entire city is shut down, except for the State of Ohio offices, even though the State's legislative government already called off for the day. So my husband is still stuck out in this, while everyone else has been sent home. And I'm snowed/iced in with a cranky, semi-sick toddler who won't nap and only wants to watch Dora all day. Whee! Expect to see me commenting on every blog today. Even archived posts.
I wish I were snowed in at home; I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to be snowed in at work. But if I were at home? I'd want to do nothing more than create cool things, ot at least contemplate creating cool things before making myself hot chocolate and curling up on the couch to watch Roman Holiday. So, here's food for contemplation.A playing card bouquet! Too, too awesome. Also note her use of pink and red. Although I don't particularly need a tea cosy, I love how she made this one. Wouldn't those flowers look lovely on a skirt? Make a few valentines for tomorrowHow easy would it be to make reversible hoods? Very easy, that's how. A fun addition to your winter-wear WITHOUT giving you hat hair!Doesn't this make you want to start your very own house project? It's such a lovely house now that it's been taken in hand. Enough of this! We get a snow day after all! I think I'll go home and sew some pillow covers, bake more cupcakes (for youth group tomorrow night) and maybe p
Well, we did get snow again! This time we got 4 inches. A good amount of snow. Here are some photos of when the snow was just starting. It snowed very hard, and hopefully we get some more tonight! And let's hope our power doesn't go off either! : )The photos are a bit blury because water got into the lense. They are still nice though.A shot of the local high school...Photo of a local trail...Our street sign, dusted with snow...Cheerful Trails,Christianhttp://www.sleddoggin.com
