You all know I haven't watched television since 1998 so there are things I completely miss or don't hear about at all (not that I mind, mostly) and much of it is on the internet anyway so between articles and videos of the episodes on tv, I see and hear pretty much everything in my own time and my own terms. So I'm a little slow when it comes to hearing about "Ten Superfoods" (apparentl
We met for some stand-up comedy Sunday evening. Simon Amstell describes himself as a skinny Jewish homosexual comic and we had an entertaining evening listening to his stories, with him presumably powered by Benylin or some other form of medical assistance. After a short introductory session by an accomplished warm up, Simon took us through two halves of conversational musings about life, existence
Last week we witnessed temperatures peaking at 90, and my gym is suddenly so full of people trying to get into shape for the beach that there's no doubt in my mind that summer is definitely here! And that means more sun, more barbecues and more cool and refreshing drinks. We celebrated the onset of summer with the luscious Rasperry Lassi, which is a fancy name for a smoothie or yoghurt cooler. Lassi is a traditional Indian yogurt drink which originated from the state of Punjab. Its more like a thick-shake, but with yoghurt and milk. Over time, the basic recipe underwent a makeover with addition of fruits and other flavors. Everyone is familiar with the Mango Lassi, which you must have seen on several restaurant menus. But this Raspberry Lassi is a class apart, because the tartness of the r

This smoothie was inspired by the Innocent smoothies one of a similar flavour combination! Initially I did not really like their coconut, pineapple and banana one as I thought it tasted of sun tan lotion, but I have now come round to the idea.It is a much needed taste of sunshine, summer, and beaches (especially with snow in April, what's that all about!). I can imagine sitting on a beach somewhere in the tropics sipping one of these. It is a kind of non-alcoholic pina-colada. Unless you fancy adding a bit of rum yourself as a summer treat. The other half said this smoothie was tastier than the Innocent one - maybe as it was freshly made, and had loads of ice in as well to thicken it up. A good review anyway!Ingredients1/2 pineapple2 bananas200 mL orange juice12 ice cubes100 mL coconut
I woke up this morning, not from my alarm clock but from the singing, whistling and chirping birds from outside. When you here them, you know its spring time. And when you know it's spring, it's time to work-out, walking outside and soak up the sun and the warm of the weather. Uhhhhhh! BUT don't get to relaxed, it's also time to put more of a spring into action for working out and eating the greens.Spinach is a great source of iron from the Popeye knows best. If you don't like spinach cooked, eat it raw. A little bit on a sandwich, salad or in a smoothie. Yes I said 'SMOOTHIE'. I might look terrible but it taste good and refreshing. We all know that eating fruit is extremely beneficial to our health and well-being. However, finding the time to eat enough fruit per day can be difficult due to busy lifestyles. I have found a site that has hundreds of healthy smoothie recipes to help with this. Give it a try. Strawberry smoothies are usually the most popular and SmoothieWeb.com has a many to choose from. This site is also looking for submissions for all fruit smoothies.
This smoothie is based on the classic gateau from the 80's. Traditionally flavoured with lots of cream, chocolate and forest fruits - black cherries, blackberries, and blackcurrants are the main ingredients. It originates from the Black Forest in Germany, hence the name schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (black forest cherry cake). Usually, Kirsch liqueur is added into the cake as well for extra cherry flavour.Unfortunately this gateau seems to have got itself a pretty poor reputation, I think this is attributable to the flooding of supermarket freezers with poor quality black forest gateaux. Sara Lee has a lot to answer for.Anyway, my smoothie is loosely inspired by this cake! No pictures for this one as I drank it straight away! Whoops. Here it is...IngredientsBlack cherries ~10Blackberri

Today I bring you a rather exotic tasting smoothie. A tip of mine is to chop up the fruit and put it in your freezer for about half an hour before blending. This way you don't need to use any ice cubes, which can make it a little bit watery.Ingredients1 mango1 banana10 strawberries500 mL apple juiceChuck all the ingredients into a smoothie maker, having chopped them up into small chunks, and blend for about a minute.Enjoy!
This is a brilliant smoothie for before going to the gym, balanced with lots of protein, fruit, and carbohydrates. Ideal for putting on a bit of muscle, and the guarana gives you the extra morning buzz thats needed.Ingredients2 weetabix4 strawberries1 handful frozen summer fruits1 scoop yogurt1 scoop whey protein powder (I used banana, any fruit flavour will do)1 teaspoon guarana1 teaspoon honey (add more if you like it sweeter)MilkPut all the ingredients into your blender, using just enough milk to cover all the fruit and stuff. Whizz it all up for about a minute, or until smooth and enjoy.
Another tasty smoothie which I whizzed up today. This one is a delicious red colour, and I have made use of the Tesco frozen fruits, so you can get tasty fruits out of their normal season. The berries are quite sharp, so the apple juice and banana just add a bit of sweetness to the mix. This recipe makes enough for 2 large glasses of smoothie.Ingredients6 ice cubes1 handful strawberries1 handful frozen blueberries1 small handful of Goji berries1 handful frozen summer fruits mixture1 bananaApple juiceAs usual, chuck everything into your blender or smoothie maker, cover with apple juice. Blend for about a minute, until smooth, and enjoy.
I just made a really good smoothie for my lady who is a bit poorly so needed a vitamin boost. This one is packed with vitamin C from the lime and pineapple, and the superfoods of goji berries and blueberries and a bit of extra zing!Ingredients1 slice frozen pineapple1 handful frozen blueberries1 handful dried Tibetan Goji berriesJuice of 1 lime6 ice cubesEnough orange juice to cover it all in a blenderChuck all the above into a blender or smoothie maker and whizz it up for about a minute, or until smooth. If its too thick for you, add a bit more orange juice.
I love making smoothies, as there is loads of fruit in every glass and they are really tasty. Any combination of fruit will do, and you don't have to use any specific amount, just whack it all in a blender. I make smoothies most days with whatever fruit is seasonal, or more often, on special offer from the supermarket, and I will just give you a quick run-down of what fruit combinations I have made.Ingredients1 bananaHandful of strawberriesHandful of Ice cubesFruit juiceChuck everything into a blender, using just enough fruit juice to cover over the fruit and ice cubes. Blend for probably about a minute, until it all looks smooth. This should make enough for about 2 decent sized glasses of smoothie.A handy tip is to put the fruit in the freezer for about 20 minutes before you make the sm

Some of you Candy Addicts may have never heard of Boyer’s Smoothie. It is the lesser known sibling of the popular Mallo Cup, and they’re both still made by the the Boyer Candy Company based in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The booming success of the Mallo Cup back during the 1940s led to the birth of the Smoothie along with its even lesser known counterpart The Peanut Butter Cup. The Smoothie is unlike any other candy cup on the market - it’s smooth peanut butter center is covered with butterscotch coating.
I was lucky to find a package of Smoothies while on vacation in Florida, at the impressive Candy Kitchen. The package is very retro in design with it’s bold orange-red and golden color motif. The illustration is a tad misleading as it depicts the Smoothies as “taller” than what they actually are. The two cups are same size as the Mallo Cup and their color is a yellowish brown and reminds me of the Reeses’ Inside Out Peanut Butter Cups.

My hubby and my son love mango. It's their number one favourite fruit. I bought two huge mangoes (almost 1 kg each) from the supermarket because their were on promotion and was really cheap ($3+ each). I decided to use some to make smoothie with some of the milk left in the fridge. What can I say? It was delicious! What I did was blend 300ml Fresh Milk with 400g Cubed Mango together and about 8 ice cubes. Once it's smooth, pour it in a glass and ... tada! Home-made Mango Smoothie! Oh! Don't forget to top with some Mango cubes for that extra bite. You don't have to add ice cubes. I just want it less thick. And if your mango is sour, add some extra fine sugar or syrup to the blending. Okay, go grab some mangoes and a carton of fresh milk now!

The photo in this entry is Reconciliation. Just take a good look around your neighborhood, your place of work, your therapistÂ’s waiting room. Take a good look in the mirror maybe, too. Yes, CR flies in the face of common sense, but itÂ’s got the preponderance of scientific evidence on its side. Yes, itÂ’s a little crazy, but the crazinesses it requires are only those already endemic to our age and area code.
