The clocks going back a single measly hour confused me almost completely this weekend. On the night itself, I woke up repeatedly, churning over the bowel-loosening possibility that I might be waking up a WHOLE HOUR earlier or later than I thought. This, apparently, is of great importance to my subconscious self, much to my sleepy frustration. If my mind boggled so pathetically at the prospect of ga

(I didn't know how I was going to live")This weeks Tuesday's Question was How long Have You Been Without Sleep, And What Were The Consequences?Because often a night without sleep can make your brain feel dreadful- totally fried- I haven't been sleeping much lately, so a fried egg felt like the perfect metaphor commonly used when one feels burnt out-Hence, in my Tuesday's Question post I give a few examples of consequences, (By the way, I apologize for use of the word consequence. I don't like it anymore-) you can get into when you haven't had enough sleep... and I posted some links of posts I've written about my after effects of insomnia- one of which I linked here because I couldn't find it when I was in the frying pan. And if it hadn't been for Sandee at Comedy Plus, I still
It's past 6.30 am and i haven't been able to sleep at all. I watched the whole series of Angels in America (again), yet no signs of Mr. Sandman. I did some online sudoku, to no avail. I listened to Sigur Ros, twice, but it proved to be fallible. That's ridiculous, I never listened an entire Sigur Ros album before, as I always fell asleep by the fifth track. Hell, I even read some Bertrand Russell notes on his views on epistemology and logical atomism, but it only made me more alert. Speaking of which: What the fuck are these two doing here? This is just as plausible as Betrand Russell having an affair with Dr. Strangelove. Meh.Anyway. My sister is staying with me for three days now, but we already had several huge fights. Last one a few hours ago. Now she sleeps like there's no tomorrow,

Today, he is a bit upset according to media reports. However, the Indian media being what they are, don’t take them at face value. If they say that SRK was angry, for all you know, he might just have been in an introspective mood.Ticket sales on the opening day - only 237 at the counter - is one issue that worried SRK. PCB banning Shoaib Akhtar, and IPL following suit, is another major issue.“I never thought so many problems would crop up when I bought Knight Riders. I was not prepared for these circumstances. From: Italy: Direct link between passion for sex and football In a country where football is a national passion, it's little surprise to learn a loss on the field can affect sexual performance.Chiara Simonelli, associate professor of the psychology of emotional and sexual development at Rome's La Sapienza university, has found a direct link between a man's sexual performance and the performance of his favorite team."If the team close to his heart loses, he's depressed, his desire falls and the sex fades away," she said on Friday at the presentation of the 2008 report on, Italians in Bed.

This issue covers most students, particularly the ones who have a problem with doing advanced studies and preparations as far as their school work is concerned. Essays and thesis papers require some time to finish and while preparatory stages are given at their convenience, kids and teens simply wait for the last minute before they even think of doing some work to avoid cramming and getting sleepless nights ahead.
Cramming is a common mentality that is experienced everywhere. The usual belief is if you can sacrifice a day or two's sleep, then you have no problem. But mind you, there are a lot of factors to consider as well such as time constraints when you cram.
Further, you may not turn in quality work, something prevalent when you lack sleep since your mind needs to rest too. In the end, both efforts are deemed as futile. You don't get decent grades and you end up sacrificing your health in the process.

Every now and then I have a restless night. I toss and turn and try to will myself to sleep, but no matter what I do, nothing seems to work. In my half awake/half sleep state it sometimes takes me a while to realize the reason for my tossing and turning isn’t of my own doing. It isn’t that I’m not really sleepy, or that I have something on my mind, or that the pillow isn’t fluffed properly. No! That’s not it at all. The cause of my sleepless nights is, at times, because Archie or Lydia (or sometimes both) are sitting by my bed scratching or whining for me to get out of bed and let them out…NOW! Last night it was Lydia’s turn.
With Lydia it starts with some restlessness. She sleeps on the bed with me so I can feel her fidgeting. I ignore it. The fidgeting turns to moving from one place on the bed to another, and if that doesn’t work, her nose nudges a hand…a foot…a leg…or whatever part of my body she thinks might be t
www.guardian.co.ukBy Alok JhaScientists have found that getting a good night's sleep reduces a child's chances of being obese.Every additional hour of sleep a night a child gets at the age of eight or nine reduces the risk of obesity at the age of 11 or 12 by 40%.Julie Lumeng of the University of Michigan, who led the research, said that getting more than nine hours 45 minutes of sleep lowered the chances of obesity in later life significantly."Many children aren't getting enough sleep, and that lack of sleep may not only be making them moody or preventing them from being alert and ready to learn at school, it may also be leading to a higher risk of being overweight," said Dr Lumeng. The study appears in this month's issue of the journal, Pediatrics.Though scientists are not certain how sleep would directly affect a child's weight, Dr Lumeng said well-rested children may be more energetic and more likely to go out and play, rather than lying around watching TV. Tired children may

Most people who have insomnia realize there are often medical reasons that cause people to have insomnia. Many people do not realize that your own thoughts can be playing a big part in your sleepless nights.

My wife fell ill a few weeks ago and now she’s doing better. To excuse the time off I had to have from work, her doctor filled out a FMLA form. But there was a mistake on the form, and now I’m on suspention pending termination from work. They say that I falsified company records. I did not do any such thing. I have 13 years at the company with an excellent work record. We have 4 children at home and I have the only source of income. I will lose my insurance and retirement. They will let me know tomorrow if I have a job or not.
Please, I need help.

Most people, specially the ones who have to work extended hours or even late nights will often find themselves having difficulty to sleep for one reason or another. These professionals are most of the time occupied with thinking of something related to work, usually pressured to perform or come up with the necessary reports as demanded by companies and their immediate superiors. While people may dread the day of having to maximize their full capacity to do so, it is apparent that at some point, such professionals will find it worthless to exert such effort if their health is at risk.
This story can be heard over and over again from various groups of people anywhere in the world. It is apparent that performing up to par is important but health constraints of human beings poses to be a problem at times. Health is non-negotiable and in these times, people will often find themselves preferring to choose their health.

Lack of sleep may eventually affect certain internal organs of the body, particularly the heart which may lead to a dangerous occurrence. Cardiac issues surrounding the lack of sleep is only natural. The proper amount of sleep is something that a person’s heart needs. A heart can only take so much and as a whole, they need proper respite as well to be well-maintained and kept healthy.
For people who may take for granted the sleepless nights, it would be best to see a physician or get a regular check-up as well. It is evident that to stay healthy, sleep is one attribute that needs to be considered.

Today was the second day of the Casual Connect conference. Only one more day to go and it's all over for the year. So to celebrate the awesomeness that is Casual Connect I went out and partied!First up was the very cool PopCap party at a swanky night club. I managed to get my photo taken in a pool of Chuzzles with fellow Aussie Darren Baker. I may post the photo sometime soon. Then we headed over to the Seattle Museum for the Mumbo Jumbo party. Memphis Radio Kings were playing and they did a great rendition of Prince's Purple Rain. Charlie and Tim (lead singer and guitarist) mixed it with the crowd and were really nice guys - plus Tim knew who Rodney Rude was!The conference itself has been a blast. I've learned heaps about the casual games industry with a lot of knowledge that can be applied to the casual and core gamer markets. And the vibe at the conference is really nice and quite different to GDC or E3 (the old one) - everyone is laid back and approachable, and there's a
People who are yearning for sleep are always looking for various ways to get it. However, internal depression may be hard to go by. Many figure to set their minds towards something else. Now depression medications may be a solution, but not all of them cure the problem of sleeping. The reason for this is that some of these medications have anxiety stimulants and thus makes a person have problems sleeping after treating the depression problem.
The best way is to consult your medical physician for help. He can more or less tell you what you need to do to get over depression and sleeping problems.

You know the story---as your bedtime approaches the anxiety starts to build. You go about your bedtime routine as the negative thoughts creep in. "I know I'm just going to lie there" or "I know I'll wake up in a few hours and not be able to fall back asleep." The vicious circle begins...anxiety sleeplessness----sleeplessness anxiety. "I'm miserable, what if I can't ever sleep good again!!!" The first thing to take action with is changing your thoughts about sleep. You don't necessarily need 7 or 8 hours of sleep. However, you do need some quality sleep but the amount varies with each individual. Some adults only sleep 4 hours a night and feel great while others need their 8 hours. When you set out to conquer your sleep problems start by delaying your bed time. Pick the absolute minimum hours of sleep that you can function on. For example if you chose 6 hours and your wake up time is 6:30am then don't go to bed until 12:30am. If you're not tired at 12:30 wait unti
While Mira does seem to have colic, at least she's sleeping her long stretches at night. She generally gives us a three or four hour stretch starting at midnight, and then wake again a couple of hours later and nurse on and off in bed until 8am. (The good news - I seem to have enough milk for her now.)This makes me very happy, because I've never been one to handle sleep deprivation well. If I'm ever interrogated by the government or terrorists, they will be able to break me after one night of no sleep. While Aaron often lives on only five hours of sleep a night, I prefer eight hours to function at peak performance. Of course, I have a newborn, so I'm lucky to get five or six hours, but that's generally enough to keep me upright, if a little fuzzy headed. So you can imagine how I feel when I tell you that last night I got about an hour of sleep all night. And that wasn't a consecutive hour, either. Baby crying? Nope. Toddler with nightmares? Nope. Loud block party? Nope.It was the

Ajab high on coke is tame, compared to a cranky, crying Ayeed, refusing to go back to sleep at 3 in the morning. What a nice start to a Sunday morning!

DH left (again!) this morning on (another!) business trip. I hate it when he is in flight overnight, cause I don't sleep. Today/tonight is the longest single flight he has ever taken:14 hours. He left the house at 9 am. flew to Toronto. The direct flight left T.O. 6 hours ago, and he has another 8 hours to go. Then he gets on another one for 6 more hours till he arrives at his destination. My problem? Plain old fashioned worry wart. I constantly wake up and turn on CNN checking for "Breaking News Plane Crash". Will I ever get over it?I realize my worries pale in comparison with Lori, as I previously recognized, but these are my worries, and I am stuck in PMS hell. So, I must go devour an oversized bucket of butter laden popcorn, chocolate covered raisins and a diet coke. And watch CNN. What I wouldn't give to be able to blame a sleepless night on a wailing infant...aaaaah, the good ole days.
I can't sleep. Throughout the night, I toss and turn...never quite finding comfort. You see, I just have so many burning questions in my mind that I can't shut down long enough to relax and actually fall asleep. I try to stop thinking about them, but they continue to keep me alert and in a state of quasi-panicked insomnia, no matter what I do.The burning, poignant questions I speak of include some that are centered around my personal life, as follows:"Have I done enough to prepare for medical school?""Will I get through the next 42 days without doing something stupid to mess up my own graduation?""Which medical school will I end up in?""Will my family end up happy when we move?""Am I smart enough to take on the USMLE Steps?""How can I ever repay my family for what they've done for me?""Am I strong enough to overcome my overwhelming fear of failure?""How will I ever pay for tuition?""If something happened to me, would my family be alright?"Beyond these self-centered questions are som
I haven't had one of these for a while, but it seems that I'm in for one of those nights again. Yes, unable to sleep. My eyes are tired and they want to rest, but I just can't fall asleep. How sad. T.T And that is why I'm listening to Jay Chow and typing this short post at almost 4 in the morning...
Ava caught a really bad cold few days ago and has been miserable ever since. Her nose was running really bad and she sounds like she has a rattle in her chest whenever she breathes. Needless to say, I have had quite a few sleepless nights and hectic days. She was having such a hard time breathing which was why she couldn't sleep. She was supposed to get her second flu shot but her pediatrician said to wait until she's better. She even thought she might have the RSV(Respiratory Synctial Virus)-which really scared the crap out of me. They stuck a really small q-tip-like tester to see if she did have the virus. So far she didn't have it. The doctor said, that to a lot of people, and some older babies, it feels just like the common cold. But to infants it may get worse and become RSV.I'm keeping my fingers crossed. She seems a little better today.
