      Thursday Shout-out
Man, has anyone noticed that my posting schedule is in danger of shifting an entire day? It's a good thing I'm on Pacific time, or this would be the Friday shout-out.I don't have much to post anyway. I did want to mention the PayPal fund that Humor-Blogs member Kadi has set up to benefit the two children of an acquaintance of hers who recently killed himself. I was going to try to summarize the

Raw Foods: Taste Buds That Shout With Joy
Do the words "raw food" take your mind back to the 70's, where raw salads with white cabbage, raisins and carrots were the main ingredients with a good portion of garlic as the only flavour enhancer? Well if you haven't tried the new trends - you and your taste buds are in for a surprise. The idea behind raw food is not only that raw is good - it must also taste good and look appetizing. What greater love can a man or woman have than to lay down his or her life for his brother. Many of you soldiers are coming back to America, your home, in an impaired condition. Some of you aren’t returning at all. I think of your courage and love for America - you all make me proud to be in America - the greatest country of all. Excuse me, but did they just sing "Shout to the Lord" on American Idol?
I know there will be plenty of other bloggers who focus on other substantial highlights from American Idol (America Gives Back segment) that aired last night. There was of course, the Miley Cyrus appearance and the cute banter segment with Billy Crystal, that adorably-cute-I-just-wanna-hug-her, Carrie Underwood, not to mention, the amazing documentaries that remind us how very blessed we are...not to mention, our responsibility to help those who are less fortunate. However, I want to give a standing ovation for the goose-bump moment at the end of the show when the contestants gathered on stage and sang, "Shout to the Lord" accompanied by a church choir singing behind them. Oh. my. goodness. My jaw dropped to the ground. I absolutely LOVE that song and I don't care how old it is, it will al

Shout Out Louds - Our ill Wills
Sometimes an album sounds fun on first listen, and then repeated plays reveal a previously hidden ripe underbelly of symphonic treats and aural pleasures. ‘Our Ill Wills’ doesn’t. It’s rather nice, but there are puddles with more depth. The darling harmonies and summery arrangements that typified debut album ‘Howl Howl Gaff Gaff’ are present and correct, as is the endearing lyrical optimism and naivety. Shout Out Louds know about heartache, romance, that indistinguishable period between the two, plus the bit before and the time after. And they’ll be damned if they are going to write a song about anything else.Just in case the band weren’t twee enough, they rope in Bjorn again – the Peter, Bjorn and John member and long-time Shout Out Louds producer, not the Abba tribute

OK, first, I’m the idiot who booked a flight on the afternoon of Super Bowl Sunday. I still think the game is the last Sunday in January. But I got a cheap flight and a light traffic day and a nice weekend away. This also may be Karmatic retribution for the technological snobbery of my Top 10 Mantiques blog.Anyway, today DVR is an acronym meaning Didn’t Vreaking Record! There’s a fabulous feature on my co-branded Verizon-Motorola HD DVR (QIP6416-2) – “Delete Bumped or Reschedule”. It means the program you originally selected to record with one-click ease from the guide has changed. They throw up an exclamation point icon next to your selection in your Scheduled To Record tab (which I’m sure you refer to often). If you do nothing, so do they. They don’t record it! I can under

Shout out to Republican Party voters
Y'all are totally making my election year, and greatly elevating my opinion of registered members of the Grand Ol' Party (at least those in states that have held primaries/caucuses so far). Thank you, thank you, thank you for making the one GOP Presidential candidate whose election wouldn't completely horrify me the front-runner. Please, please, please keep it up. On the Democratic side, Obama is my horse, though I could certainly live with Clinton. But on the GOP side, if McCain's momentum continues, I'll be grateful to not be in the position of dreading November, since I'd feel like I could live with either outcome. I disagree with McCain on the vast majority of issues, and I think he's eroded his integrity a bit in recent years by toeing the party line for political reasons more th

Why You Should Not Shout to Monkeys in Bali
A friend of mine, Dar, a Bali tour guide, thought he could "summon" the monkeys at monkey forests any time he needed just by shouting loudly. Well, he is surely right about calling the monkey but he forgot something else. He was no Tarzan. And the monkeys didn't like people shouting at them disturbing their privacy. So, Dar was going to get a surprise he would never forget for all his mortal life. This is a story about my friend who took a client to a monkey forest somewhere north Denpasar, Bali on one afternoon. Dar's client was a very important client because he owned a travel agent in US. Therefore, my friend was on special mission to give the best service in order to impress this VIP client. "Make the client happy," his boss reminded,"we count on you."The client was happy touring around

We should shout: we are here!
Alexander Zaitsev, Chief Scientist at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics, has access to one of the most powerful radio transmitters on Earth. Though he officially uses it to conduct the Institute's planetary radar studies, Zaitsev is also trying to contact other civilizations in nearby star systems. He believes extraterrestrial intelligence exists, and that we as a species have a moral obligation to announce our presence to our sentient neighbors in the Milky Way—to let them know they are not alone. If everyone in the galaxy only listens, he reasons, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is doomed to failure. Zaitsev has already sent several powerful messages to nearby, sun-like stars—a practice called "Active SETI." But some scientists feel that he's not only acting out of turn, but also independently speaking for everyone on the entire planet. Moreover, they believe there are possible dangers we may unleash by announci

      Just shout…
From Wikipedia: A lot of people think that ‘Shout’ is just another song about primal scream theory, continuing the themes of the first album. It is actually more concerned with political protest. It came out in 1984 when a lot of people were still worried about the aftermath of The Cold War and it was basically [...]

Thursday Shout Out: You Guys (ok, and my book)
Man, what a week. Between puking my guts out, taking care of children who were puking their guts out, wrapping up a programming job for a client and working on a radical revamp of humor-blogs.com (which I'm almost done with), I haven't had a lot of time to attend to my blogging duties. Yet despite my truancy, you all continue to stop by and leave nice comments that make me laugh and feel all snuggly inside. Thanks for sticking with me. You guys rock.Still, I can't help but feel like I've let you down -- And more importantly, I feel like I've let Huey down. Some standard-bearer for the Huey-Lewis-is-too-classic-rock movement I've turned out to be (Yes, I've had plenty of movements lately, but I don't think any of them were Huey).I may not be able to make it up to Huey, but here's what I can do for you: For a limited time I'm lowering the price on my book, Antisocial Commentary: From the Secret Files of the Mattress Police, to $9.95 with free shipping. That's right: unt

Protesters shout down Griffin at MSU
EAST LANSING - When British Nationalist Nick Griffin took the podium at a Friday night Michigan State University event, he tried to explain how Islam is a threat to Western civilization. Protesters wouldn't have it. Hurling obscenities and using chants to interrupt his address, rambunctious student organizations forced Griffin to abandon his speech and allow an informal question and answer session. What followed was an unstructured banter between the speaker and a crowd of roughly 75 protesters. While many attempted to ask Griffin legitimate questions, others shouted obscenities. "We have all come from different backgrounds," said Authra Khreis, 17, a pre-med student and a protester. "We should accept one another. I don't think he should be allowed to speak. You can use free speech until you hurt another person." Griffin was invited to campus by a conservative student organization called Young Americans for Freedom, or YAF. Kyle Bristow, chairman of YAF, said his organization invited
