When the New Seven Wonders of the World came out, I added my two cents. I have even done the Seven Wonders of the Philippines. (and will be soon coming out with the wonders of Japan and Australia). I recently (as in a few minutes ago) found out the Good Morning America came out with [...]

Just in case you did not read my Story Blob, Share Your Christmas Moments post - last year I decided to dress up as Santa Clause. My Santa costume (on the photo above) is hand made by me, and yes it took a long time, every night of the whole week and one weekend, and I still forgot to make myself a belly. I was sawing like crazy, and on the end all this work was really worth something - we all had a blast. I did special appearance for my two nephews and one niece, and of course I delivered few gifts to my neighbors. Note no snow on Christmas Day last year. Gifts are nice, but I think the feeling of Christmas, the laughter and most of all time with the family is the best gift one can get. Dressing up as Santa is something I really enjoy, and this personal addiction or kind of funny side of

The American Idol-style selection process has its detractors:
A paragraph from the press release reads "There is no comparison between Mr. Weber’s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The list of the 7 New Wonders of the World will be the result of a private undertaking, reflecting only the opinions of those with access to the internet and not the entire world. This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by this public."[4]
Their opinion's not ridiculous as orchestrated campaigns like those in Brazil skew the results. However, the protestation of UNESCO is uncharitable at best and self-serving and elitist at worst. Why didn't they just thank the group for bringing attention to man's past glories?
Whatever. It makes sense to choose new ones. I mean, nobody's ever seen any of the old ones except for the

A drawing of the lighthouse by German archaeologist Prof. H. Thiersch (1909), later used as an illustration in The House of Ptolemy by E. R. Bevan published by Methuen Publishing, London, 1927. Some of which is quoted below. High Resolution Image"On the island of Pharos, the famous lighthouse, reckoned one of the wonders of the world, was built by the architect Sostratus of Cnidos, begun, no doubt, under Ptolemy I and finished early in the reign of Ptolemy II. "The material used in its construction was chiefly nummulitic limestone. The sculptural decoration as well as other accessory ornamentation was partly in marble and partly in bronze. The innumerable columns were for the most part of Aswan granite. The lantern was formed of eight columns, surmounted by a cupola above which was raised a bronze statue (probably of Poseidon) about seven metres high. The flame was obtained by burning resinous wood. It is believed that convex mirrors made of metal were used to give a longer p96range to
Image by Athanasius Kircher (sometimes erroneously spelled Kirchner) (May 2, 1602–November 27 or 28, 1680) was a 17th century German Jesuit scholar who published around 40 works, most notably in the fields of oriental studies, geology and medicine. He made an early study of Egyptian hieroglyphs. One of the first people to observe microbes through a microscope, he was thus ahead of his time in proposing that the plague was caused by an infectious microorganism and in suggesting effective measures to prevent the spread of the disease.Kircher has been compared to Leonardo da Vinci for his inventiveness and the breadth and depth of his work. A scientific star in his day, towards the end of his life he was eclipsed by the rationalism of René Descartes and others. In the late 20th century, however, the aesthetic qualities of his work again began to be appreciated. One scholar, Edward W. Schmidt, has called him "the last Renaissance man". A fanciful interpretation of the Mausoleum of Maussollos, from a 1572 engraving by Marten Heemskerk (1498–1574), who based his reconstruction on descriptionsMausoleum of Maussollos, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe Tomb of Maussollos, Mausoleum of Maussollos, or Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (Ancient Greek: Μαυσωλεῖον Ἁλικαρνασσεύς, Μαυσωλεῖον τοῦ Ἁλικαρνασσοῦ (Ἀλικαρνασσοῦ)), was a tomb built between 353 and 350 BC at Halicarnassus (present Bodrum, Turkey) for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and Artemisia II of Caria, his wife and sister. The structure was designed by the Greek architects Satyrus and Pythius. It stood approximately 45 meters (135 feet) in height, and each of the four sides was adorned with sculptural reliefs created by one of four Greek sculptors — Bryaxis, Leochares, Scopas and Timotheus. The finished structure was considered to be such an aesthetic triumph that Antipater of Sidon i
This hand-coloured engraving by the 16th-century Dutch artist Martin Heemskerck (1498 - 1574) depicts the fabled Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Nebuchadrezzar II, the Chaldean king, is supposed to have had the gardens built in about 600 bc as a consolation to his Median wife, who missed the natural surroundings of her homeland. This image is a faithful reproduction of a two-dimensional work of art and thus not copyrightable in itself in the U.S. as per Bridgeman Art Library v. Among the newly elected wonders of the world we can find our Colosseum!!!
These new wonders are considered as such because they are added to the previously selected ones in 140 BC from Antipatro of Sidone that have almost completely disappeared.
The new wonders are a result of a big private opinion survey proposed by Bernard Weber, a Swiss-Canadian director during the Olympics of Sidney 2000, after the destruction of giant Buddhas in Bamiyam, in Afganistan, by the hand of the Talibans.

The results are in and since it’s been the talk of the town for the last day or so I’m not going to bore you by regurgitating them here. However how an anyone let this go by without taking out their soapbox.
I’m hearing there were 100 million votes or was it 100 thousand, either way it not really all that many considering the world population I think a lot more are needed, at least a billion. Even so nationalism would probably become more of a problem with either a small or large number of votes and I think something like that did happen.
The Pyramids of Giza should have been on the list of 7 by default not just an honorary number 8 as it seems to be, it is an original wonder so with that there should be 6 places remaining not 7.
With the pyramids included I don’t really think there is room for Chichén Itzá.
Christ the Redeemer, maybe it’s supposed to be the new Colossus of Rhodes but I think the truth is that we can make pretty much anything out of a fe

Well this time every TV news channel is appealing to you to cast ur vote and confirm the win of Taj in New seven wonders through sms or internet polling. But who will decide this???Its unfair to give the power of judgment to poeple they will vote to that object which belongs to their country no matter its good or bad. Mostly populated country like china will bring Great wall china on the first place, and so on then what about those countries like African countries Timbuktu. :DBut dont worry Taj Mahal will not qualify in this event because ppl are quite busy with voting in Indian Idol and such type of realty programs where voting is just a fashion.
OK, I've just been tagged by Lissa which I think means I need to reveal seven little-known facts about myself, so here goes:1: I'm happier when it's pouring with rain then when it's sunny.2: I get nervous twitches in my legs.3: My great-grandfather was chaplain to King George V.4: No one really knows how lonely I am.5: I have a scar on my left wrist caused by an abscess left by a drip6: I never feel like I belong.7: I 've always wanted to wear a Gone with the Wind style hoop dress.

What a great idea.Voting starts on May 14th, I hope Bush Pilots make the final list, that will be my vote.
