Mythyical Sculpture! - "The Golden Fish" by Alexandros Arabatzoglou
In some cultures a fish can be a potent sign of fertility, signifying abundance, movement and creativity. For example, in Roman mythology a fish can be a symbol of love – fetching Venus to mind – or the power of the waters, mighty Neptune. Fish in baskets – as in meals of plenty, bread and wine, the foods of redemption – and fish in association with an axe as in Assyria and Crete, or perhaps with moon shapes in many of the fishing cultures, all represent blessings and confer magic fertility on the catch or upon the whole community. In China. Great Mother Kwan-yin was often portrayed as a fish. In India the Goddess Kali was called ‘the fish eyed one’, and in ancient Egypt, Isis was called Great Fish of the Abyss. In Greece. the Greek word ‘delphos’ meant both fish and womb.

Sand Artist Creates Sculpture of Jesus
This is neat! Orissa artist carves Jesus Christ on sand KalingaTimes Correspondent Puri (Orissa), Dec 24: As the world was readying to celebrate Christmas, internationally acclaimed sand artist from Orissa Sudarsan Pattnaik carved an impressive image of Jesus Christ on the sandy beaches of this holy town on Monday. Pattnaik created the 22 ft high sand sculpture, which he claimed to be the world’s biggest Jesus Christ on sand, by using 600 tonnes of sand. It took 25 hours for him to complete the work. The artist also carved sand images of Santa Claus and Mother Mary near the sculpture of Lord Jesus. While Pattnaik created the sculpture of Jesus with plain sand, he used colours in the images of Santa Claus and Mother Mary holding baby Jesus. Around 15 students, including seven girls, from Golden Sand Art Institute that Pattnaik runs on the Puri beach assisted him in creating the sand sculptures. “Puri is the place where sand art started in the 14th Century and the tourist inflow

Botero Sculpture This is a bird sculpture done by by world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. It symbolizes the joy of living. The sculpture is at Singapore River. We went there at night, right after our dinner at UOB Plaza. The children were amazed to see such a huge statue, a huge bird. I took this picture with my handphone and it does not turn out well. I love sculpture. There aren’t many sculptures in Singapore. But I had seen more over the years. For example, in the Botanic Gardens and in Schools. I cannot think of any sculptures in any of my previous schools. I hope there were, whether big or small. Just like any pieces of art, a sculpture is the creation of the creative mind. Every piece of artistic creation has its ‘reasons’ behind it. The reason(s) would be the main idea used for the production of the art pieces. For example in the bird, the production of it is to tell people about the joy of living. The bird can fly freely. When you

      Winged Lion Sculpture
Avenue Gardens and The English Gardens (Regent’s Park) The Avenue Gardens, also known as the ‘Italian Gardens’, were designed in the mid 19th century by the Victorian garden designer Andrew Nesfield, who also designed the Palm House in Kew. His son, Markham Nesfield, landscaped the adjacent English Gardens. Both were restored in the 1990s with the addition of fountains. The simple layout of the garden consists of four avenues of trees, long gravel paths and colourful flower beds among stonework and evergreen hedging. The huge Lion Tazza urn overflows with flowers in the centre of the garden. This is the original Nesfield bowl, supported by four winged lions. Dollar Store Flowerpot Sculpture, R.I.P.
Chums,You're waiting with bated breath to hear reports of Crabtot's third birthday party this past weekend. But I'm still recovering and hence can't quite bring myself to post yet. Maybe by the time she turns four. Actually, in truth it all went rather well. And as you know, I don't like to post about the rare good times one has a parent. It just 'aint good reading! However, I can and must post about what happened to the Dollar store prize from the now-famous Dollar store contest we held here at Crabmommy. Remember the prize? Solomon Sculpture Gallery
By: Debra Solomon Debora Solomon is not just an artist of sculpture, that is a sculptor, she is also a lawyer, has a Master's Degree in Political Science, and has experience as a teacher. That makes her quite eclectic with a background that spans much farther than just that of an artist with her own online art gallery. This artist describes her sculpture as consciously using negative space in all of her work. She feels that both negative and positive space help define sculpture, and that intentionally using these as elements in the sculpture itself gives her work more importance throughout time. She has also experimented with using the negative space as the primary sculpture, meaning that which the viewer sees first, but the combination of the two spaces is what gives her sculpture its dynamic quality. Various pieces of her sculpture have been on display in shows in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Many fine pieces are available for purchase in her online sculpture gallery. This

Paris dealer decides to sell his "liveable sculpture"
"The house is a sort of livable sculpture," Trigano said. "Le Corbusier invented a beautiful expression for his houses that I think we can use here: 'inhabitable poems.' You feel you are in a refuge completely isolated from the world. We lived there for 15 years. It was formidable. "The asking price for the four-level house, which is 400 square meters or 4,300 square feet, is €4 million, or almost $5.5 million. The site totals 6,000 square meters, or about 1.5 acres, and there is a caretaker's house and a garage.

      Fiesa International Sand Sculpture Festival
This exhibit is nothing like the sculptures I remember creating on the beaches of the Algarve as a kid. This is way beyond my pail and shovel. Incredible work done by very talented artists, a great display whether you have kids, or you are a big kid. Who knows maybe you’ll be inspired to play in the sand all over again! This year’s theme is Wonders of the World, to match Lisbon’s 7 Wonders - beautifully done!
