Same Crap, Different Day - Orioles Lose Again in Oakland For Fourth Straight Loss; The Rundown & What The Bloggers Are Saying...
Could the good vibes of being a Baltimore Orioles fan in the short-term be coming to a close?I was going to title this post something else (use your imagination), but I decided to be a good fan and use some decorum when doing this.Again, the Orioles lost out West, 4-2, to the Oakland Athletics. The loss was their fourth in a row, and they need to find answers; according to Spencer Fordin, the Orioles held a meeting at some point on Tuesday.Brian Burres struggled for the most part last night, as he allowed eight hits and four runs (he was charged with three) over a little more than five innings of work. The bullpen was once again solid; however, once again the anemic offense did not do anyone favors despite the relief corps keeping Baltimore in the game. The flighted ones made A’s starter,

State Your Position Without Saying A Word
People like to make their opinions and beliefs known. One way to do that is having those opinions, attitudes or thoughts put on a t-shirt. One of the things that people like to express on t-shirts is their Christian beliefs. Christian t-shirts are a great way to display your faith. The message on the shirt can be something as simple as “I believe” or any other statement about your viewpoint. A Christian t-shirt can also have a Bible Verse that is special to wearer. It can be flashy with graphics or include a famous quote or Christian teaching. Christian t-shirts make a great gift for special events and occasions such as Vacation Bible School. They can also be given for Birthdays, Christmas, or any other time. They are a perfect gift to give that person who loves to share how

      Saying "No to all"
Remember that annoying little dialog box that often pops up when you are trying to copy, move or delete multiple files? "Yes", "No", or "Yes to all" are the choices that it offers. Yet what happens when what you want is the "No to all" option? Thankfully, a built in Windows trick means that you don't have to sit at the computer all day clicking on the "No" option when it appears.Simply hold down the shift key while clicking on the "No" button. This tells Windows that you are selecting the "No" option for all files involved in the copy/deletion operation from now on, and Windows will automatically process the remaining files without any further prompting from you. This trick will often work on the "Yes" option for those dialog boxes which do not offer a "Yes to all" option as well.theysaY wi

      Saying Goodbye
My church said goodbye to a friend of many last night. Our brother Ted died last week of cancer, a struggle that began eight years ago that culminated with the last few months of intense discomfort before ending when the fight could no longer continue. Ted loved art. He loved to bike. He loved classic rock. He loved the Chicago Bears. And he loved kids. And what he loved the most was combining some of those things, which played out most of all in teaching kids at the church - both in Sunday school, about the Bible, and teaching young girls and boys how to not only create art, but to truly enjoy art. I unfortunately did not know Ted well, but did get an opportunity to get to know him. I had the opportunity to be in his apartment with our cell group week after week, because he was

Saving lives is better than saying prayers
By Chuck Lunney I’m sure that many readers have heard that Thursday is the National Day of Prayer. It’s supposed to be a day when believers of all faiths gather to kneel down and pray for healing, hope and peace (at least, I certainly hope that’s what most people would pray for).I do appreciate the sentiment, and I know prayer makes those doing the praying feel better, but unfortunately prayer is one of the most objectively ineffective and useless forms of assistance. Other than making those doing the praying “feel better,” numerous studies have shown time and again that prayer fails to benefit those who are prayed for, and at best it is no better than a placebo. As an atheist, that just seems like a tremendous waste of time and personal effort, which I’d prefer to see spent in

I've been saying this for more than 15 years now....
From the La Salette Journey archives:Thursday, September 15, 2005Priesthood as vocationBefore entering into any state of life, a divine vocation is necessary. This because without such a vocation, it is difficult if not impossible to fulfil the obligations which pertain to that state and to obtain salvation. This is particularly true for the ministerial priesthood or any other ecclesiastical state. After all, it was Our Lord Who said: "He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber" (John 10:1).Consequently, the man who takes holy orders without a call from God is convicted of theft in taking by force a dignity which God has not called him to and does not desire to bestow upon him. This is the teaching of Saint Paul:"Neith

So the 4 "experts" had the job of teaching us. If you aren't familiar with this game, Mahjong is a game for four players that originated in China. It involves skill, strategy , and calculation, as well as a certain degree of chance. In the game, you are given thirteen tiles for a hand (depending on the variation being played). When your turn comes, you draw a tile and discard one. Your goal is to create a Mahjong which is too hard to explain!! One of the gals who was teaching us said that as she aged, she was starting to lose her short term memory. Her doctor recommended she learn Mahjong to stretch her mind. Hopefully, it will ha

Mr Fuld, speaking at the investment bank's annual shareholder meeting, said that credit markets have begun to ease but still believes the environment 'will remain challenging.' Similar comments came last week from two other investment bank CEOs - Goldman Sachs Group's Lloyd Blankfein and Morgan Stanley's John Mack. Saying "Wait" -- Hope Chronicles 30
I've always been a bit of a saver. When I was a child, my allowance always went into the pottery type doll bank that sat on my dresser. When I was 10, my parents took us to start savings accounts. As we got older (early high school), my parents started upping the amount of money they gave us. It was agreed upon that that everything (school clothes, Christmas presents, etc) came out of that money. I never asked my my parents for extra. And then I also babysat a ton. Money just seemed to come easy.Even after college, things have been tight at times, but it has always seemed that there was enough. If I wanted something, I saved here and there for it and got it in a reasonable amount of time. But, money has been extremely tight lately -- we are talking months and months. I thought I had it all

And I think I could buy the whole "I misspoke" thing if Hillary Clinton had that actually happen to her -- just in a different country. But it did not. Saying Those Magic Words "i Love You" In Romanian
The three magic words, "I love you", turn into two on translation from English into Romanian. "Te iubesc" - are the words every Romanian girl dreams of being told since they read about it in a novel or heard it being said in a drama or a movie. Expressing one's love by saying those words is a crucial step in any relationship in Romania. Normally girls do not like to confess that they are in love with a boy. It is a sort of masculine privilege and duty, you might say. The first "Te iubesc" could also be more emotionally charged than the first kiss. So when do you say "Te iubesc"? How do you say it, and to whom? These are the vital questions haunting anyone in love with a Romanian girl. In life and in love nothing is alike, as you well know. Each relationship is special, each person has some

It is your wedding, so make it you own. You are probably hunting for every book, articles, and tips you can find to make your wedding as personal and unique as possible. The best and more memorable way to do is to create your own wedding vows.Traditionally, the bride and groom has little say in what goes into the words spoken during the wedding ceremony. Today, wedding officiants even encourage couples to say their own wedding vows during the ceremony. It reduces the mechanics and strays away from the "wedding ceremony formula" we have been too acquainted with. Heck, if you attended ten wedding already, you are likely to be able to recite the "standard vows" the bride and the groom say to each other. So, if you want to make your wedding vows unique and personal, you can incorporate your fee

      Saying Thanks to our Troops
Have you ever seen a military member out in public, and wanted to thank them? You wonder what would be the appropriate thing to say, or you're shy. Maybe you're across the room and can't get over to the soldier. I usually feel comfortable just saying, "Thanks for your service," but some people don't. A family member emailed this video to my husband, and I wanted to share it. No matter what you say, do say something... or give them a sign, such as this video shows.CLICK HERE TO COMMENT

      What they're saying in Pinellas
As we reported yesterday, a majority of the Pinellas School Board supports offering alternative theories of origin in schools. You can see today's story in the Times here. We promised you more in-depth looks at all the board members' views. So here it is. Reporters Donna Winchester and Ron Matus conducted the interviews. Jane Gallucci is the only one with just a single comment: "I think that students should be given the opportunity to view all theories on how man evolved and let their science background and their religious background take over as to which one they believe in. If you have a strong faith belief, then I think you would believe that god made us. If you want to think in a scientific way, then you believe we evolved. But I believe both theories should be presented to children. I think especially in a scientific world both theories should be presented to children." Carol Cook: "I don't think we need to be afraid of any of it. Evolution is a popular belief out there.

Blog hiatus and saying goodbye to Erie
If you’ve seen Jack’s blog today, you already know our big news. We are leaving Erie. I am saddened to leave Erie, but excited by the prospect that moving to Rochester, NY brings. Erie has been our home for the bulk of our marriage and family life, which is why it is going to be so hard to leave. It’s the only home our kids have known, but they seem ok with our impending move, albeit a little apprehensive. I expected them to react much worse to the news, but there were only a few tears. I think it will help them to be involved with the packing process. And, I think they are intrigued by the idea of having their own rooms. Well, at least the twins are excited about not having to share a room with Alex. I can’t say that Alex is excited about having his own room. He wants to be with his bubbies. That will certainly take some getting used to for him. So, in the interest of packing, I’m likely going to be neglecting my blog for quite some time. I’ll try

      Saying Good Bye .. Again
It feels like we just uprooted ourselves, oh wait yeah we just did. Honestly, the roots here are not as deep as they were in California. Less time I suppose. Yet, today as I watched my daughter dance and follow the instructions of another, I had a little mistiness in my eyes. Becca has grown so much here. Ethan too, my gosh my baby is big! I have shrunk (34 lbs and counting), and suffered through the weirdness of this place. So leaving is bittersweet. I am very grateful that chances are, we will not be relocating again. Halifax will be home. Becca, Ethan and I have been making our rounds, saying good bye to the people that so generously welcomed us into their community. It must be a sacrafice to open their world to strangers only to have them leave again. There are a lot of post-docs here so it happens often. This place is such an anomaly.  How often are people placed on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere? Top that with 90% of these people are hard core physicists, computer gu

Earlier this week I wrote about Smorty Get[ting] On My Bad Side. Well, now they’ve gone too far and it’s time for us to part ways. They have two new “messages” posted on their control panel. The first is a (not so subtle) swipe at paid blogging pioneer Izea/PayPerPost- There have been some recent changes that Google have made with regard to sponsored postings. Smorty would like to offer you some advice on this issue. Google has primarily targeted PayPerPost member blogs and reduced their Page ranks across the board. Although this WILL NOT REDUCE your rankings or readership, your blog will receive more campaign offers if it has a higher page rank. To prevent any future loss of page rank due to this issue you can take the following steps: 1. Remove all sponsored post tags on each of your posts. Google can follow these tags to determine if you are being paid for posts. 2. Remove any PayPerPost tags on your posts for “hire me” and “rev

      Saying “Thank You”
Thank the Lord because He is good. His love continues forever. Psalm 106:1   Worship is when you’re aware that what you’ve been given is far greater than what you can give. Worship is the awareness that were it not for His touch, you’d still be hobbling and hurting, bitter and broken. Worship is the half-glazed expression on the parched face of a desert pilgrim as he discovers that the oasis is not a mirage. Worship is the “thank you” that refuses to be silenced. We have tried to make a science out of worship. We can’t do that. We can’t do that any more than when we can “sell love” or “negotiate peace.” Worship is a voluntary act of gratitude offered by the saved to the Savior, by the healed to the Healer, and by the delivered to the Deliverer.   Max Lucado Tags: Sell, Negotiate, worship Share This

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF SAYING " ALLHAMDULLILAH "
The Qur'an (2:155) says, "Give glad tidings to those who exercise patience when struck with adversity and say, 'Indeed, we belong to God and to Him is our return.' Such ones receive [the] blessings and mercy of their Lord, and such are the guided ones." Bernard Jensen says, in his book (The Science and Practice of Iridology), "The doctor of the new day will recognize that a man's most important workshop is not the physical body, but the mind that controls it." Dr. Ted M. Morter confirms this in his book, Your Health... Your Choice, when he says that "negative thoughts are the number one acid producer in the body (and high body acidity levels are a major cause of disease)… because your body reacts to negative mental and emotional stress brought about by thought the same way it reacts to 'real' threats of physical harm." The the brain is an organ that works in harmony with the other organs and feeds from the same bloodstream, this enables us to understand how various mental event

I loooove watching the Food Network when I am pregnant. It's like porn for me. I just can't get enough of it.It occured to me today as I was watching it though that there is one food that no on on the Food Network should make or eat or talk about ever again.I'm talking about fish tacos.I don't care how good you say they are. I don't care how easy they are to make. I don't even care if they contain magical powers that enable me to fly and become invisible and turn things into chocolate just by touching them.None of that matters because I can't even hear the phrase "fish taco" without feeling a little ill. Show me someone cooking one and I'll alternate between giggling and feeling sick to my stomach. I cannot bring myself to watch someone eating one.Is it just me? Or is "fish taco" just about disgusting sounding?

The Power of Saying Thank You
I have an nice little Monday morning tradition. Every Monday morning I sit at my desk and handwrite two or three Thank You cards to different volunteers in our different children's ministry areas. One letter is usually just chosen off a list of volunteers that worked that particular week, and the other letter is sent to someone that I noticed doing something GREAT during that particular weekend. My motivation is two-fold; first I want those on my ministry team to know that they are doing a great job and second I want them to know that I am extremely thankful for what they do for all the families at our church. I've been doing this for 3+ years now, and it's not the be all to end all, but it's proven remarkably effective at getting people to join with you in ministry.I say all that to say that this month is Pastor Appreciation Month. Did you know that? Everywhere I've ever worked, I've been noticed a few times for Pastor Appreciation events; but the church here in Lubbock ha

When Saying No Helps Your Family
I’ve been pretty busy here the last couple of weeks. Between packing the old house up in anticipation of our move, I’ve also had to do some work-related travel. Needless to say I need to get some more time to catch up. I multi-tasked today, and spent some time doing work around the house while I called some family and friends. Multi-tasking is great, and I always feel more productive when I find a way I can do it easily. I had a quick chat with a good friend who told me a disturbing story. His wife’s grandparents have spent all of their retirement savings. They have many years left, and not a lot of money with which to live. The problem on their part wasn’t poor planning. It has to do with some unscrupulous family members who have taken advantage of their elderly grandparents. This story really upset me. For a little background, my friend’s aunt has had a history of living a hard-partying lifestyle. Her hard-partying ways have made it difficult for her to

Seduce Women Without Saying A Word
orget chat up lines - you don't have time for them. It takes the average woman mere seconds to form a first impression of a man. In fact, so quick are girls to judge that by the time you've spotted her, walked over and opened your mouth to speak, she will already know if she's interested in you. You see, girls get hit on by every other man they meet. They go to the shop, the clerk flirts with them. They head to a bar, heads turn. They open their front door and the bum on the street yells that heaven must be missing an angel. If they stopped to chat to every man who fancied his chances, they'd never get anything done - and so they've learnt to be picky. One glance at a guy tells a girl everything she needs to know. So forget crafting charming, witty opening lines, and focus on what matters most to her: those few fleeting moments before you've even had time to speak. But if you're no male model, don't worry - this isn't about your appearance. Sure, you should brush your teeth,

      Just saying no
Maybe there's a lesson here for the Pasco County School Board. A week ago, the Pasco board let the Athenian Academy, a charter school, keep about 40 students on its rolls contrary to the school's contract with the board. It simply amended the contract to increase the school's enrollment figures. (Read post here.) This week, the Lake County School Board faced a similar situation. One of its charter schools, South Lake Charter Elementary, had "illegally" admitted 26 seventh-graders, even though the school's contract didn't allow for a seventh grade. So what did the board do? It gave the seventh-graders' parents until Friday to find another school, according to the Orlando Sentinel. And members scolded the charter school for creating a difficult situation for the children. "It's a very bad quandary for the children," School Board member Cindy Barrow said to the Sentinel. "Had we made any other decision last night [Monday], it would've been an irresponsible decision." Can't le

Look out for the coverage of this in the newest RWD Magazine - Head to Head, thanks to Mr Raj 'Skanking' Kapone. Peaches and Fred certainly knew their stuff when it came to grime, Yes I know even I was shocked.

Buyers: Exactly what is it saying or what's buzzing?
Buyers tips on reading and understanding a listing description (Part 1) My advice is to go and see the property with your own eyes.  Ask questions and make sure that you understand and verify as much as you can about the properties that you are interested in possibly purchasing.  It is not wrong or a bad idea to view the property a couple of times and take notes.  This will help you get a true picture of the home. When reading the listing description, remember often time the agent have to abbreviate and use buzz words to get as best description out to the public as possible.  I have provided a cheat sheet to help you understand what agents usually mean with the buzz words.A good Rule of Thumb:  When reading a listing, pull it apart for descriptive words that are usually put there to either pull you in and/or is trying to cover up a weakness in the property.  Be careful of hype words and exclamation points and bold print. When you read a listing descrip

I’m Not Saying Men Are All Lazy And Self Centered!!
Every once in a while I get hit with a client who just doesn’t see the value in seeing a doctor. The old “if it ain’t broke” attitude. Why see a doctor if you aren’t sick? According to CNN.com 43% of men get annual physicals. I’m thinking if half that many do it would be amazing. I recently worked with a guy who had colon cancer 13 years ago. He had 18 inches of his colon removed, did chemo and radiation, and was, according to him, pronounced cured. I asked him when his last colonoscopy was and he said “13 years ago”. I asked him what kind of followup he had done post cancer treatment and he said “none”. I asked him when he last saw a doctor for anything and he said “13 years ago”. We went our separate ways at that point, not exactly seeing eye to eye. That was certainly the most outrageous case of “you just can’t fix stupid” that I’ve run into, but it is more common than the 43% CNN suggest

Nine Movies That Make You Want To Yell, "Stop Saying That"
By Travis CloudMovie moments are nice things to share with the people you care about. Most of those shared moments consist of “Remember that one part when the guy with the thing…” and before they can finish you’re interjecting with your own vague, “Oh totally, I love that part!” But occasionally this process extends beyond an inner circle and goes global in its reach. This is where a perfectly fine movie goes to the realm of annoying, because of our need to repeat the catchy lines contained within them. Here is a completely subjective list of movies that have been ruined by our need to copycat.1. Austin Powers – “Oh behave.” Remember that period after the movie when fairly normal people couldn’t resist putting their pinkies in their mouth and incorporating the word shag into a sentence. Oh, that’s right, no one wants to remember that. Thank god there were two more movies with the same jokes to remind us.2. The Godfather – A fantastic epic that spawned a generati
