In England I find that the establishments we frequent do no provide napkins without some positive request on behalf of the patron. I feel exceptionally grumpy as my brain has been turned to mush by the latest mantras:- “Roger! Over and out!” with accompanying hand gestures and microphone voice, interspersed with “intruder alert! Intruder alert! Intruder alert!” in perfect Dalek, every t
The UK Government is supporting two nationwide programmes that give children free books. They've even stepped up its funding to £4million.That's great, but it's s shame it's only for kids. They can't read that well anyway, so it's a bit of a shame. And if you see the books they read - Peter and Jane going to a shop and they buy something - honestly, the narrative is so predictable, save the mo

There is internal disagreement at the U.S. Federal Reserve regarding the central bank's role as a safety valve for battered financial markets and troubled banks, according to policy-makers' remarks on Thursday.
Donald Kohn, the institution's influential vice-chairman, said in Congressional testimony the Fed stood ready to act again if needed to shield the financi

by: Dr.Ali ShariatiTranslated by Ms. Homa FardjadiIn the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen:YOU MIGHT feel that art, whatever form it may take, is a complex subject which requires proper specialization to speak about it and that one who attempts to talk about it must necessarily be an artist himself. You and I both agree that I cannot consider myself to be one. But on the other hand, my words here on art are not of the kind which are common these days. They differ from other talks given on this subject or themes in which one has to deal with the particular area of his specialization. There are some sciences which are oppressed in our society. They are oppressed in the sense that they have no particular owner. The reason they have no owner is because

I don’t know about you but the first thing I look for in a hotel is the hair dryer and from my experience the power is normally similar to my granddad puffing out his birthday candles, after running up 2 flights of stairs.
Although, have you ever wondered how nice it would [...]
"Jesus The Divine Saviour" All Powerful over Disease: (Omnipotent) Matthew 8:1-3 KJV[1] When He was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him.[2] And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.[3] And Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Luke 4:37-39 KJV[37] And the fame of Him went out into every place of the country round about.[38] And He arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's (Simon Peter's) house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought Him for her.[39] And He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. Mayawati’s hug of death is finally beginning to choke the Congress party. Before reading on, please carefully go through what I had written way back in August last year. In the post entitled "Mayawati’s Hug of Death”, I had then itself warned about the dangers that the Congress party was being exposed to in accepting Mayawati’s warm and reassuring sisterly hug after she had won the UP elections. Despite the many unconcealed signs to the effect given out over the years by Mayawati and her mentor Kanshi Ram, the Congress kept getting sucked into her death trap. The article needs to be read in its entirety; there is little need to repeat what I have already stated there with some lucidity. It has taken a very long time for the Congress to realize that Mayawati is quietly remo
Sathya Sai Baba has been heralded as the Islamic messiah, the Mahdi and much has been written to try to prove he is the one… it is even publicised in a faked translation of Persian prophetic texts in Sai Baba’s self-glorifying Chaitanya Jyoti museum at Prashanthi Nilayam. It appears, however, that he is not accepted as the Mahdi by certain prominent religious-political Islamic figures….
President “Ahmadi-nezhad’s main event was at the U.N. General Assembly on September 26, 2007: As he did last year in the same venue, he opened by praying to Allah to “hasten the arrival of Imam al-Mahdi….”
“Missed by some observers in Ahmadinejad’s speech at the U.N. was his call to the “mighty Lord” to hasten the emergence of “the promised one,” the one who “will fill this world with justice and peace.”
International news community deaf to Ahmadinejad’s Mahdi belief? That observers could ‘miss’ the massive ravings of the Irani
This is a story book which I cam across by chance. It is written by Ravi Pillai. Lets see what he has to say about Jesus, our Saviour:
He is our Great God and Saviour. (Titus 2:13, John 1:1,14)

Following the X-Men titles have always been tricky for me. There’s just so much messed up continuity that sometimes it gets difficult to follow. I buy Astonishing X-Men when it comes out in trades, I tried to read Mike Carey’s recent run but I’m not a huge fan of the team (although since the Mauraders returned it’s been pretty interesting) except for Rogue. And although I loved Ed Brubaker’s team in Uncanny he left my favorites in space. So this fall comes Messiah Complex a crossover that will happen within the X-books themselves. The art had me on board (Silvestri!) but then I read the premise and I’m fully intrigued by what’s coming. Seems that a mutant baby is born and since House of M mutants are supposed to be limited to 198 following Scarlet Witch’s destruction of the X gene. So the race is on to find the baby as the X-Men, the Mauraders and the Purifiers go hunting for it. To me this is a throwback to the crossovers of old like Th
Right now I'm getting my head around programming (or should I say "building") with Flash. It's quite different to writing games in C - I think the biggest hurdle is getting used to the idea of movie clips and converting graphics and stuff to symbols.Anyway, I'm sure it will all be second nature within a week or two. First up I will be converting a Brainiversity activity over to a web playable game. This will coincide with some changes to my site - I want to make it a little more central for all the stuff I have floating out there on the web.At the moment I have a number of different web sites and not much cohesion between them. So I will be making an "all things John" portal. That's a little while off yet, first things first is getting my Flash game up and running!www.passfieldgames.com

Having a top rap song on the Billboard charts in 2007 is not exactly an unusual accomplishment. Commendable, yes, but a hit single does not mean that the full-length record will be met with much success, nor necessarily should it be. Fortunately for New York (specifically, 164th Street in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood) MC MIMS follows up
JOHN O’Neill has been confirmed as the Australian Rugby Union’s managing director and chief executive, effective from 28 June.
O’Neill returns to the position in which he oversaw the rise of the code in Australia from its first days of professionalism in 1995 until he departed after the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
“I will work hard for Australian rugby to again reach its extraordinary potential,” O’Neill said upon the confirmation of his appointment more…
The Guardian reminds readers that Blair's foreign policy was more than slavish obedience to Bush, and will be remembered for more than merely Iraq, in its report on Sierra Leone:To say Tony Blair is popular in Sierra Leone scarcely does justice to the intensity of feeling towards him in this small tropical corner of west Africa. His decision seven years ago to send in British troops at the height of a brutal civil war is widely seen by Sierra Leoneans themselves as the critical moment in their country's salvation. It turned the tide in the conflict and helped bring an end to an 11-year nightmare.[...]"He is our saviour! Tony Blair is our redeemer!" Kalie Bangura was moved to cry out at an impromptu rehearsal of praise songs the villagers have been practising since the country's president, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, promised this month that their hero would be returning."We would assure you and the British people that Tony Blair will get a massive welcome, a heroic welcome, when he gets to S
Most people if asked, would put Apples success in recent years down to one man, Steve Jobs. I whole heartedly agree that Steve Jobs has been the driving force behind the computer company’s resurgence from its darker days, however, it would not be fair to over look the contribution of a certain Mr. Jonathan Ive, the chief designer behind so many of Apple’s products. The London born designer and co founder “Tangerine” a design consultancy, was head hunted by Apple back in 1992 and went about designing computers that he thought would complete the user experience of using an Apple computer. Ive was responsible for the design of the iPod, iMac, Powerbook and the upcoming iPhone, and says that the projects have been developed with the intention of keeping in mind “ease and simplicity”.A modest man, Ive rarely boasts of his exploits and remains relatively unknown to the general public, however his achievements have been recognised byIndustrial designers society of America – indus
I'm lost, confused you could say. I'm only sixteen and a junior in high school. But my time is almost up. I graduate in May of 2008 maybe even in December of 07 I'll be through and still don't know what I want t do. I'm lost confused u could say. Two paths I could choose. One I really wanna do but then that path has many paths leading from it. Or I could choose the other and do what I know I'll be successful at. I'm lost, confused u could say. I'm top fuckin' 5 in my class. Damn that makes me happy to say that but I could give a fukin' shit about that. High school is okay but damn I can't wait to leave. To leave this city of the dead. To leave these people that I don't know, but they swear they know me. Nobody fuckin' knows me. My own parents don't know me, how are you going to know me if I won't tear down these walls for my own flesh and blood. I can truly say only four people know who the real me is and I'm one of them. But I only have mysel
