An anonymous e-mail to 8BitJoystick has spurred a bit of controvery, as the e-mailer claims that Microsoft has, essentially, fired Bungie. Citing Microsoft’s distaste for how Bungie interacts with its fans and Bungie’s handling of its profits, as well as Bungie’s distaste for how Microsoft’s marketing and overall handling, the anonymous e-mailer cialms that Microsoft has allowed Bungie to become its own third-party developer, essentially leaving Microsoft. The e-mailer goes on to say that Microsoft was to issue a press release on the matter today, but opted to wait until October 6th so that the announcement wouldn’t impact their quarterly results. There is a bit of a rumor swirling over at Xbox Family News, who today is reporting that, according to their source, Project Gotham Racing 4 may be getting delayed sometime in the near future. If this is indeed true, one would almost have to look back at the stories from a few months ago that had Bizarre complaining about the storage space of DVD-9 discs, even though I personally have a hard time believing that PGR4 would surpass the 7.95GB limitations. Shenmue. Either you loved it for it’s engrossing story and memorable characters, or you hated it for it’s often tedious and boring gameplay. Rumors have persisted for a long time about an Xbox 360 price drop. Michael Pachter (what does he do? Seriously, he’s like Mel Kiper! You see him once a year (around E3), and he’s a ghost the rest of the time) even went so far as to tell us to “expect” a price drop for the Xbox 360. Well, apparently we can “expect” those price drops sooner rather than later. According to several “internet reports”, a major (although as yet unnamed) Canadian retailer has confirmed that the Xbox 360 is set to receive an official $100 price-cut on all SKUs. What that means, in short, is that the Xbox 360 will officially become the cheapest console on the market. The Mill o’ Rumour is churning yet again, folks. With what? Electronic Gaming Monthly, who used to be journalists, is now reporting that BioWare has formed a new team to develop a new Knights of the Old Republic game. One problem, apparently it’s not KotOR 3. EGM has reported that BioWare has formed a team of Super friends to develop a Massively Multiplayer KotOR. This is a bad idea, plain and simple. The MMO market is already overly saturated with games piled upon games. Guild Wars, WoW, Everquest & Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes/Villians, The Matrix Online (more or less), Second Life, not to mention that there already IS a Star Wars MMO, Star Wars Galaxies. Now, unless LucasArts is willing to slap SOE in the face by letting someone else develop a new Star Wars MMO, I don’t see this happening, even though I am sure BioWare WOULD make a great MMO. The rumor mill is working overtime this week, as word from the inside (of Microsoft) has it that there are two games due to hit the Xbox Live Arcade this week. Those games? 3D Ultra Minigolf and the arcade classic Gyruss. Now, we all know about Gyruss. It’s a classic, to be sure. As for 3D Ultra Minigolf, it’s basically a port of a computer game that revolved around… well, minigolf. On the PC it featured 36 holes, and… well, that’s about it. It’s minigolf, for Christ sake. According to the Rumor Mole inside the May issue of OXM, the next installment of the Perfect Dark novels may make reference to the next game: The Mole’s pals in the book industry have tipped us off to a sequel to Perfect Dark Zero by way of a press release announcing the next novel in the paperback series that also mentions a follow-up to the game… If Rare DOES give us another Perfect Dark game, I will be ALL over it! Actual potential news on a Saturday! I’m so freaking excited! Ok, ok, ok… Earlier this week, when news finally broke of the Xbox 360 Elite, making it official, I was quick to call my local Gamestop and ask if they were taking pre-orders. They said no. Fine. Two days later, I called back, and again they said no. Finally I called the Gamestop at my local mall (Genessee Valley FTW) and asked him if they were taking pre-orders. Again, he said no. Worth Playing has a most interesting rumor regarding the Take-Two situation. As you all know, Take-Two recently announced that they may be up for sale, and are currently looking at all of their options. Well, Worth Playing has heard “from the grapevine” (I never did get that expression) that the rumor being spread through the Rockstar North offices is that Microsoft has, indeed, put in a bid for Take-Two Interactive. Now, whether or not this rumor is true is up for debate, but I don’t think I have to point out that if Microsoft did in fact buy Take-Two, that it would change the entire landscape of this current console war.
