The Beijing summer Olympics don’t begin until August 8th, but you can start to get in the mood now by following along with an Olympic torch tracker being run by the Google Earth & Maps team. The Torch Relay map allows you to follow the path of the age-old flame, and learn about the cities it passes through as it makes its way across numerous countries and bodies of water. VDOT is proposing widening Belmont Ridge Road (Route 659) between the Dulles Greenway (Route 267) and Route 7 (3.4 miles). The proposed improvements will include widening of the existing road from 2 to 4 lanes on a 6 lane right of way, shared-use paths and the construction of a bridge over the W&OD Trail in Loudoun County. If you would like sit in the open forum and see the plans, you can do so on Monday, December 10 from 5:30PM to 8:30PM at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn (map). In the event Loudoun County Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the open forum will be held December 17. Qantas has celebrated the 60th anniversary of its services between Australia and the UK, better known as the Kangaroo Route.The first ever Qantas flight between Australia and the UK left Sydney on 1 December 1947, an occasion that marked the beginning of a new era of transportation between the two countries, chief executive Geoff Dixon said.

Just behind my house is the Chemin de St Jacques de Compestelle Pilgrim Route. For over a thousand years Pilgrims from all over Europe have been following the various trails of the Chemin de St Jacques to make the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the North-West of Spain. Most days we see modern day “pilgrims” with big back packs walking along the trail behind our house. It’s a World Heritage site. See Wikipedia link for more: It’s called the Way of St James in english and el Camino de Santiago, in Spanish. Near me it’s also a great mountain bike route. Excuse the balaclava but it was cold. Even St Jacques was frozen solid.

But it was saved, from halfway across the world. Legendary Carlos Ghosn, president of Nissan Motor Co and France’s Renault, took over Nissan and turned it around. Ghosn placed importance on design, meeting with designers and having a say in the cars that hit the market. His vision has just hit these shores. “With the Nissan Design Forum, our intention is to showcase the design side of Nissan to the next generation of automotive designers in Thailand. The event will bring together top designers from Nissan and automotive design students in Thailand giving them an opportunity to understand how things work within the design teams of car companies,” says Thierry Viadieu, president of Siam Nissan Automobile. Remember the Kia Kee Concept that made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September? While on its way to California to make its North American debut at the LA Auto Show next week, the car dubbed the “new face of Kia” wriggled out of its cargo restraints and slammed nose first into the front wall of its transporter. Kia spokesman Alex Fedorak said the car has already been sent back to Italy, properly secured this time, and will not make it back for the LA Auto Show. The impromptu bit of rhinoplasty may have improved the Kee Concept’s face, which you might recall we weren’t particularly impressed with.
