I am noticing something that the media in the west and east are ignoring the economic factor in the Lebanese issue.people do not understand that the majority of Shiites in Lebanon are from the Blue collar working classes whether from the farmers or from the labours. The last economic decisions to raise the price of fuel and diesel in Lebanon just like another Egypt made this class extremely angry especially their wages were the same ,even after the very fast small raise the cabinet had decided from two days before the protests. The Cabinet decided to raise the minimum wages to become $US 500 , useless raise in front of continuous rising prices. Again this protests were not planned by Hezbollah and allies but it was planned by the Lebanese Labour Unions on objection of the very low minimum

      Food Riots Erupt Worldwide
Food riots are erupting all over the world. To prevent them and to help people afford the most basic of goods, we need to understand the causes of skyrocketing food prices and correct the policies that have fueled them. World food prices rose by 39 percent in the last year. Rice alone rose to a 19-year high in March -- an increase of 50 per cent in two weeks alone -- while the real price of wheat has hit a 28-year high. As a result, food riots erupted in Egypt, Guinea, Haiti, Indonesia, Mauritania, Mexico, Senegal, Uzbekistan and Yemen. For the 3 billion people in the world who subsist on $2 a day or less, the leap in food prices is a killer. They spend a majority of their income on food, and when the price goes up, they can't afford to feed themselves or their families. Analysts

Food Riots Loom Amidst Gloomy Global Economic Forecast
There is a lyric by Rage Against the Machine from a song called New Millennium Homes that rings true in our current political climate. Zach de la Rocha sings, "Hungry people don't stay hungry for long." The people of Haiti, Bangladesh and countries across Africa unknowingly echoed this sentiment in the past few weeks. Violence broke out as starving people went in search of food. World Bank President Robert Zoellick noted on cnn.com that:"In just two months," Zoellick said in his speech, "rice prices have skyrocketed to near historical levels, rising by around 75 percent globally and more in some markets, with more likely to come. In Bangladesh, a 2-kilogram bag of rice ... now consumes about half of the daily income of a poor family."The increase worldwide has

The cost of the rice has risen by more than three-quarters in two months and the price of wheat has more than doubled in the same time. The desperation in dozens of countries has turned deadly of late. In the past week alone there have been violent, food-related riots in Haiti, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cameroon.World Vision Australia head Tim Costello says the situation is desperate and chronic. "It is an apocalyptic warning," he said. "Until recently we had plenty of food. The question was distribution."The truth is because of rising oil prices,

Food Riots and Why Krugman Is Right
The still-increasing price of food throughout the world is continuing to cause massive problems, with tragic consequences. Food riots are spreading in much of the Third World, and mass starvation looms on the near horizon. This is a tragedy of potentially unspeakable proportions. In response to the latest news, there is a tendency on the Left to blame free market economics for the crisis. This is a terrible mistake that is not only unproductive but will also only make the problems worse if it is followed by anti-market policy action. The laws of supply and demand are not optional - you can either accept them and try to learn why demand has outstripped supply so horribly or you can ignore them at your own peril. But blaming supply and demand for the food crisis is like blaming gravity for th

Food riots to worsen without global action - UN
Food riots in developing countries will spread unless world leaders take major steps to reduce prices for the poor, the head of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said on Friday. Despite a forecast 2.6 percent hike in global cereal output this year, record prices are unlikely to fall, forcing poorer countries' food import bills up 56 percent and hungry people on to the streets, FAO Director General Jacques Diouf said. "The reality is that people are dying already in the riots," Diouf told a news conference. Sarkozy Win Sets Off France Riots
Have you ever been out in public and seen someone else’s kid throwing a tantrum? It could be over anything or nothing at all. Spoiled kids often don’t even need a reason to act up. Well that's what’s going on in France since the election. Actually the election is just the latest excuse for the spoiled kids to be burning cars (around 15,000 per year is considered “acceptable” now) trashing buildings and attacking the police. These are all people brought up under an incredibly liberal social system. They work very little yet have huge expectations for what they do work. Not to beat a dead horse but this is the perfect example of their liberal chickens coming home to roost. Nicolas Sarkozy is trying to save France and their Muslim population and the radical left are both fighting him tooth and toenail.
