A class action against various retail grocers alleged that the undisclosed addition of color to salmon misled consumers about its origin, quality, freshness, and flavor. Reversing the lower courts' dismissal of plaintiffs' claims, the California Supreme Court found that the allegations were not insufficient as a matter of law, and could proceed.Without the coloring, farm-raised salmon would have a grayish tint, but the pinkish hue added to the fish makes it resemble wild salmon, which consumers prefer. In the latest example that the U.S. dollar just ain't what it used to be, some shops in New York City have begun accepting euros and other foreign currency as payment for merchandise. The increasingly weak U.S. dollar, once considered the king among currencies, has brought waves of European tourists to New York with money to burn and looking to take advantage of hugely favorable exchange rates.
A bunch of NYC stores and retailers are making it clear that money is money, whatever the currency: "Euro Accepted" signs are popping up all over the city and European tourists couldn't be happier. I knew it was coming.

The National Retail Federation welcomed an agreement on economic stimulus legislation reached between the Bush Administration and House leaders.“The proposal put forth is simple, targeted economic stimulus that will quickly put money into consumers’ pockets where it can boost economic growth by creating demand throughout all sectors of the economy,” NRF Senior Vice President for Government Relations Steve Pfister said.“Given the financial stress that consumers will be under in the coming year, stimulus legislation is essential to the health of our nation’s economy and to the jobs that rely upon the strength of that economy.”“We are heartened that congressional leaders in the House, working with the Administration, have set aside partisan differences and are working together t
There's no place like Moscow for global retailers looking to expand over the next five years, according to a survey of 250 retail firms from 23 European countries released on Thursday. The survey, conducted by real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield, ranked Moscow as the choicest city for retail market growth, and had Russia tied with the United Arab Emirates as the most attractive country.
Following up on a resolution passed by the National Retail Federation Board of Directors earlier this week calling for legislation to stimulate the nation’s economy, NRF wrote to President Bush and both Democratic and Republican leaders of Congress asking for quick action.“U.S. retailers, who are a bellwether for our nation’s changing economic climate, are greatly concerned about the softening of the U.S. economy,” NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin said.“2007 holiday sales were the weakest since 2002, and as the new year begins, consumer spending remains sluggish. Consumer spending represents 70 percent of the U.S. economy and has fueled our economy for the past decade. We agree with economists who say the fastest way for a stimulus to enter the economy is through the consumer.

A series of lawsuits have recently been filed accusing Aurora Dairy, Wal-Mart, Costco, Target, Safeway, and Wild Oats of consumer fraud for marketing milk fraudulently labeled as “organic”. The suits allege consumer fraud and negligence.
Aurora sells $100 million worth of milk annually. Aurora supplies milk labeled as organic to the chain grocery stores named in the suit and 15 other national and regional chains. Stores sell Aurora's milk under their own in-house brand names, such as Costco's Kirkland and Target's Archer Farms.Aurora officials have already received a notice from the USDA detailing multiple and "willful" violations of federal organic law that were found by federal investigators. No matter how poorly their stock performs, these investors hold onto a dream. This kind of thinking epitomizes the stupidity of investors and represents everything I hope to change. Ashworth (Nasdaq:
