Operations are getting a bigger share of mid-week diners if they are perceived to be "budget conscious". The newly f

      Sonoma Restaurants: Early-Spring Daytrips
The hills up and down California are greening: March, the emerald month, is around the corner. It’s time to start thinking about short hops to Sonoma—before the tourists arrive. Though current room rates are a steal, you don’t have to stay overnight. It’s only 45 minutes from the city. Go for the day. (But not this weekend: plan San Francisco rainy-day activities instead.)Build your afternoon road trip around a good meal. You can leave at noon, drive through sublime electric-green landscapes, maybe hit a winery, then kick back over an early dinner and be home in time to catch a movie. Trust me: you’ll feel like you’ve had a mini-vacation. Here’s my short list of favorite dining rooms, along with some good cheap eats for budgeteers.

Cracker Barrel Restaurants Argue that U.S.C. 1981 Doesn’t Recognize A Right-To-Sue on Retaliation
This is how far employers will go to protect their right to target and terminate complaining employees…The case in question is CBOCS West Inc. v. Humphries. CBOCS West Inc. runs the Cracker Barrel chain of restaurants. The case raises an issue that remains unresolved in the Civil Right Act’s (1866) nearly century and a half of history: does the Act’s first section, now codified as 42 U.S.C. 1981, guaranteeing equality in the right to make a contract, forbid reprisals against an individual who complains of discrimination against others.Cracker Barrel Restaurants has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, in which they are essentially arguing that Federal anti-discrimination statutes do not protect employees from being fired for retaliatory purposes under U.S.C. 1981. To state this plai

      Vegetarian Restaurants in Seoul
Any vegetarians out there? Any vegetarians out there in South Korea? Recently, one of our coworkers asked us if we'd want to join her at a vegetarian restaurant located at Sinsa Station, near Apgujeong. We decided to make it an adventure and last weekend we made the long trek to eat some...veggies. I have never visited a vegetarian restaurant before, as I am a pure carnivore at heart (Veggies have feelings too when you cut them up...)!Anyways, we finally made it to our destination, a vegetarian restaurant that was recommended by one of the Seoul tourism websites. What we saw when we went in was not very appetizing. We either came at the wrong time of day, or they just weren't busy enough to keep their "buffet" stocked with fresh items. It was not a memorable meal, but since it was only 6000w per person we decided to give it a go anyways! There were four of us in this restaurant on the second floor of a building...along with three others:Here are some pictures of the buffet...you know

"60 Minutes" asks if calorie disclosure at restaurants would help fight obesity
Calorie disclosure at chain restaurants: Good idea or not? CBS' "60 Minutes" wades into the argument between the restaurant industry and health officials. Lesley Stahl is the reporter; the segment airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on WKMG-Channel 6. "When people are eating in a restaurant that they think is healthy, people grossly underestimate how much they eat by about 50 percent," Cornell Professor Brian Wansink tells Stahl. To illustrate the point, Wansink questions a young man about a Subway meal. The man thinks he is having 300 calories; the actual count is 1,390. The restaurant industry faults proposed menu-labeling as impractical, and many chains put the information on Web sites. New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden counters that "obesity is a terrible epidemic" and that posting caloric information "is not going to solve the problem, but it's part of a solution." What do you think? Also Sunday, "60 Minutes" will offer

Fast Food Restaurants & Nutrition Facts Compared
Fast food is bad food. That's pretty much common knowledge these days. The majority of the foods served at fast food restaurants contain an insane amount of calories, tons of fat (including the very evil trans fat), and are high in pretty much everything else that you'd want your food to be low in. Long story short, it's the kind of food you want to avoid eating. But, you probably know this already. The funny thing is, most of the world doesn't seem to care. The fast food restaurants continue to do just fine because people continue to eat their unhealthy food. So I figured, if you are still going to eat this junk, you might as well at least know which is the best of the worst, and which is the worst of the worst. To show this, I've compared the nutrition facts of the most popular foods from over 20 popular fast food restaurants to see how each restaurant's version of the same food stacks up against the others. If this isn't enough to convince you to eat less (or none) of this stu

      Local Restaurants: A Rant
Today is a “Rant and Rave” day according to my November schedule. I am pressed for time today, and not particularly inspired, so it will have to be a rant-let. I guess something that’s been on my mind lately is the fact that, although there is another college town barely 60 miles away that has fantastic restaurants, this town can’t sustain more than three fine dining establishments, all of which are fairly casual. There are good dives of many varieties, many chain restaurants, and a few locally-owned family restauarant workhorses that serve reliably good food, but not much that approaches “fine dining.” Although we have both an “Olive Garden” and a “Bravo” there is not a single “white tablecloth” Italian restaurant in the area. Great pizza, decent pasta, but nothing that goes too deep or gets too far from the comfortable and familiar. No osso bucco, no polenta, no roasted chicken with Rosemary; for that, one has to

Dogs In Restaurants Are A Bad Dog Law
Article Title: Dogs In Restaurants Are A Bad Dog LawAuthor: T. PetersonA Possible New Dog Law There has been talk recently about a new dog law in Oregon thatwould allow dogs in restaurants. If one state passes such alaw, then other states are sure to follow. As an injury lawyerwho has handled many dog bite injury cases, I believe that sucha law is a very bad idea. With more and more people going out in public in recent yearswith pets such as dogs and treating them as if they were equalmembers of the family – almost as if they were human – there isa heightened risk to the public at large of being bitten orattacked. Coffee shops, restaurants, or any other business thatis open to the public, rather than requiring owners to tie theirpets up outside, would become potential places of risk for dogbite injuries. New Dog Law – A Further Catering to Dog Owners Some coffee shops and restaurants already cater to dog ownersfor business. For instance, they may have dog water bowl

      Expensive Vegas Restaurants
You gotta love Las Vegas where else in the world can you spend $5000 on a burger. At Fleur de Lys, chef Hubert Keller's palace of good taste at Mandalay Bay, you can get a $5,000 Kobe hamburger with truffles and foie gras . . . and a bottle of 1995 Château Pétrus, which Tobias Peach, the general manager, says accounts for about $4,975 of the price. Or how about a 16-course, $360-per-person feast at Joël Robuchon at the MGM? To be honest around every corner and certainly in every hotel on the Strip there is an “expensive restaurant”. I thought about recreating a list here, but my budget and experience would be limited to the lower end restaurants. But I did find a nice slideshow that Forbes put together. Forbes has put nice slideshow together of the 10 most expensive Las Vegas restaurants. It is worth a look. Related EntriesLas Vegas Spas Things to do in Vegas, that don't include gambling.
