Fun with Video Responses: Hey Miley?
In honor of today's poll winners, I've made a video response to a spoof music video by popular YouTuber The Venetian Princess. Her video was a play on Miley's new song, "7 Things" by talking about the 7 (or more) things that girls need to do but that guys don't. Here I pose as the beloved Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, letting Miley know that she's got nothing to worry about-------------------

PACA considers the GMC’s actions have reduced the willingness with which paediatricians will report suspicions of child abuse and engage in child protection work, including acting as expert witnesses. PACA has tried to engage with the GMC, but Professor Catto, President of the GMC, and Finlay Scott, CEO, have responded that PACA is "painting a misleading picture, thus adding to the very problem they say they wish to resolve". Online Dating - Tips On Getting A Lot Of Responses
Many people nowadays are turning to online dating as an alternative to more traditional approaches. But how can you ensure that you will get optimum results from using a dating website? When you've got your profile on to the dating website, all you have to do is wait for the responses to show up. Chances are, if you've written your profile well, that this won't take long. But how do you write a good profile? To answer that we have to look at how dating websites work. And they work in a similar kind of way to the usual search engines, like Google, Yahoo and the like. They match up the words you are using with the words other people are using. They match the "keywords". So the secret of getting responses from people you like the look of is to examine the profiles of those kinds of people, and

When mortals suspect their gods of wrongdoing, do they have the right to put them on trial? What lies behind the human endeavor to impose moral standards of behavior on the gods? Is this effort an act of arrogance, as Kant suggested, or a means of keeping theological discourse honest? It is this question James Crenshaw seeks to address in this wide-ranging study of ancient theodicies. Crenshaw has been writing about and

I summarised some responses:I want you to know that just because you dont believe in God, doesnt mean he's not there. God loves you. Romans 5:8 says God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners Christ died for us. God has a love and a grace that is beyond human understanding. I am a christian obviously and I believe that Jesus Christ will be coming again and that He will take His people, the believers, with Him. I pray that you and the people who dont believe in Christ will turn before that day. I found it rather interesting, and I apologize in advance for the length. It's rather confusing how they have an excuse for everything it seems. What are ya'lls thoughts? It really bothers me when people blame God for the bad things that happen in the world and say he doesn't care about us or he doesn't know how to deal with us.First, let me establish that God is real and that he knows what he is doing. The first and best sources are the scriptures and the words of the prophets. They teach that God does live, that he cares about us and that he has a plan for all of us.Unfortunately, some people think that the Bible is "out-of-date" and not applicable to today'

      Northern Rock - politicians’ responses
In my earlier post about Northern Rock, I made the comment: Sadly, the whole thing has degenerated into a political circus. I’ve had an interesting email response from someone who, for whatever reason, didn’t want to post an open comment on this blog. The gist of the comment was that I was being a bit harsh on politicians from constituencies where a lot of people stood to lose their jobs, since supporting local people is surely the point of being elected. Actually, thinking about it over the last few hours, I can respect that viewpoint. Our own local MP spent several years defending her party’s official line on our local hospitals, and saw a huge swing against her, only just holding on to her seat. Since her re-election, her line has changed, and she’s more able to balance what local people want with what the central party view is. My issue with the political wrangling isn’t that politicians are looking to support local jobs… but that they appear to

If you’ve ever considered selling your blog, or you might like to think of it as an option, you might like reading other bloggers’ opinions on the matter. In addition, Nadine’s history is pretty checquered and has a history of emotional instability so groups should refrain from commenting before the court cases are over and the truth is out. An email was received this morning regarding Money Merge Accounts which read: Hi, SimplerFi. I have been looking around the web regarding the Money Merge Account, and I noticed your site. I was going to leave a comment, but since it is a site for moms, and I’m not even a dad, I didn’t if that would be allowed. I looked through all the links you provided and I noticed that one thing there seemed to be in common was that those who argued against the Money Merge Account were either people who made assumptions about what they knew (or rather their assumptions) about the Money Merge Account, or people who deal in mortgages and wouldn’t want someone to ever have their house paid off faster, anyway. The Top 10 Emotional Responses to Breast Cancer
Being diagnosed with breast cancer is a life-changing event. Suddenly, the world feels like an unsafe place. Little things seem unimportant to the survivor. And the big things, like life, seem tenuous. A torrent of feelings wash over the survivor. Knowing the emotional responses she is experiencing will help friends, family and fellow survivors support and nurture her, and each other. She needs to be encouraged to fully feel and express each of her feelings. 1. Shock and Disbelief: “There must be some mistake. It can’t be happening to me! I’m healthy. I take care of myself!” Disbelief is one of the most prevalent first emotional responses.2. Overwhelm: Breast cancer survivors are faced with many critical decisions. Often there is a time pressure to make treatment decisions. It helps to have support with research about traditional, alternative and complementary treatment options.3. Fear: “Am I going to die? Will I be disfigured? Will you still love me? Will I love myself?” T

Lori D gave great advice on how to check if the local schools are worth trying. Ask some of the local kids, what do you like about school, what are you learning about, are you excited to go back? Ask some of the parents, do you kids like going to school, when you ask them what are they learning do they grunt? That will give you your answer. You could also make a tour of the school. Investigating Responses to Antagonism on YouTube
I came across this interesting paper presented at the Society for AppliedAnthropology this year. The paper is entitled:Commenting on Comments: Investigating Responses to Antagonism on YouTubeAbstract: Scholars suggest that certain “lessons” supposedly learned from studying textbasedinformation technologies may be applied to video-mediated environments. Some scholarsbelieve that a key limitation of online text-based environments is a prevalence of anonymity which directly spawns antagonism. According to this view, increased amounts of identity information, such as ability to see faces and bodies in online encounters, will decrease communicative hostility. Examining video sharing practices on YouTube shows that such an assumption is flawed in multiple ways and is rooted in misunderstanding about the source of online hostility. For these researchers, hostility results from assumed online anonymity rather than from social or culture dynamics which may occur offline as well as online. Th

For me, I know that I hate being asked about fertility treatments. Until such time as I can ask someone what position she was in when she conceived her children, I don’t see why it is OK to ask me how I conceived mine. I’m also not a big fan of “double trouble.” I mean, who wants a total stranger to announce that she considers one’s children “trouble”? Touchers bother me; I don’t know where their hands have been and it generally isn’t acceptable in our society to touch people. Finally, blocking the stroller and preventing me from doing whatever it is I am trying to do because someone “just has to see those babies” ju

Over 100 responses, but not many are that good. I was surprised to see the responses out of Vegas to possess an overall lack of creativity. They were mostly short one-liners, like, "Sounds great. Hit me up. Let's go out." Whatev. Fuck that. I'll only post the ones worth reading. 1 hey, i just saw your add and i think the odds are stacked against me, but this is vegas and even the longshot wins

Jerky responses to personal ads abound
I often wonder why guys even bother to respond to my personal ads. I assume that they send the same email to every ad they think is even possibly real, but these responses are so ridiculous, lame, or offensive that the guy is assuring a non-response right out of the box. And I'm not just talking about the guys who say, "If your real write me back!" At least those are hopeful but clueless. I'm thinking about responses like this one: Drop the bull-shit bitch.... If you want to get fucked so hard that you wont walk straight for a week, and your shit will be falling out of your asshole for another week... Send me your picture and phone-number right-now... No guy thinks that's an appealing image, right? So he's obviously writing the email to get his aggressive, jerky rocks off. What a waste.

11 PUT A REAL PICTURE UP OF YOU....NOT SOME STUPID DOG? OR IS THAT YOU? 12 What you really need to do is get over Paul. You say you werent a stalker but go back and re read your ad. You mentioned Paul how many times? And you are not a stalker? Maybe you arent a stalker, but if you want to find a nice guy, lose the "Paul" memories and quit talking about him. *(Brilliant.) 13 Is Fungus single?

Sorry it took me so long to get these responses up. After a bout of food poisoning, I feel ready to sit in one place without writhing in pain and having to revisit the throne. And again, though there are many responses (almost 70), I'll post only the best ones. I warn you--there are many. Many seem to think they know good pick-up lines. Others seem to think they don't need them. 1 Well.......

RESPONSES: Houston CL Ad for the Painkiller Addict
This ad probably got the least amount of responses so far: 22. That's not bad, actually. After all, it was flagged and removed after only a couple of days. This is a trend as of late. Also, there was seemed to be suspicion on the part of those replying to the ad that it wasn't real. All well. That's life, I guess. Let's look at the best ones. This will soon follow with the responses to the

      Pointlessness in CL responses
What, exactly, is an "upidity cunt"? Do you think I am one? I'm gonna go with yes on that. I don't understand why people bother sending me long rants in response to my CL ads. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen from time to time, and they range from coherent and hateful screeds against women who have sex to bizarre and irrelevant ramblings about... I can't really tell. But I wonder what they're expecting. Are they hoping I'll write back, infuriated by their comments? Maybe they think this will make them stand out from the crowd? Or perhaps they figure I didn't know that I was living a life of sin and their email will save me? It seems like a lot of trouble to go to share your opinion with an anonymous stranger who is extraordinarily unlikely to respond. Where's the satisfaction in that?

politics | Two Responses And A Thought About The Military Commissions Act of 2006
Bush signs bill to interrogate, prosecute terror suspectsOctober 17, 2006WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some of the most notorious names in the war on terror are headed toward prosecution after President Bush signed a law Tuesday authorizing military trials of terrorism suspects. The legislation also eliminates some of the rights defendants are usually guaranteed under U.S. law, and it authorizes continued harsh interrogations of terror suspects, a provision Bush had said was vital.Imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and awaiting trial are Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the September 11 attacks, Ramzi Binalshibh, an alleged would-be 9/11 hijacker, and Abu Zubaydah, who was believed to be a link between Osama bin Laden and many al Qaeda cells."With the bill I'm about to sign, the men our intelligence officials believe orchestrated the murder of nearly 3,000 innocent people will face justice," Bush said in a White House ceremony. The Pentagon expects to begin pre-trial motions earl

My Thoughts on the CNN Debacle and the Responses from Hunter and Schlussel
I'm finally going to jump on the bandwagon and say something about the CNN piece from Paula Zahn where Karen Hunter and Debbie Schlussel basically told atheists to sit down and shut up since our rights don't matter anyway (you can see it here). At least Steve Smith (of ESPN) had the courage to come to our defense. I clearly wouldn't agree with him on matters of religion, but at least he knows how our Constitution is supposed to work and what rights we Americans have. Like every other atheist who has commented on this issue, I was disappointed Zahn did not have an atheist on the panel when thee topic of discussion was discrimination against atheists. However, the format of the show doesn't really lend itself to a balanced discussion on every issue since it has the same guests throughout the entire episode, so I guess I can understand. Besides, Zahn seemed rather surprised to see that nobody wanted to defend atheists. I can understand that much, I guess. But then a number

I only have time to post a couple of posts. So be it. 31 Hi, can you tell me more about the following in your CL ad? "One of the issues I'm working with is to fight against the drive to change the name of the city of Austin to the City of Bellsouth (which hasn't reached the Texas legislature yet, but you should write your state rep and tell him to keep Austin as Austin). I love Texans. Well, not all of them, and not all the time. I decided it was time to take this project on the road, so we started with Austin. Of course, I wasn't thinking and put that the person in the ad was from Houston. But whatever. Austin, my friends, did not disappoint. What we have is gold. Take a gander. There's quite a few responses, so I'll post up a few at a time. 1 I love you 2

Welcome to the latest responses. Good stuff. Apparently maritime lawyers and/or those obsessed with 14th-16th century England are in high demand. Keep THAT in mind when you're in a bar looking for a little action. You could open conversations with... "These Goddamn chastity belts get so rusty. It needs lubricating...Anyone?" or "I think botulism is SO cool." Or just use your imagination. 1
