On May 1, PardonPower reported on the clemency request of 78-year-old Max Dunlap, who was convicted of the 1976 car-bomb murder of Don Bolles, an Arizona Republic reporter. The Arizona Board of Executive Clemency has since denied Dunlap's commutation request despite the fact that he claims to be innocent. Dunlap is not eligible for parole until 2014. On Friday, the Associated Press reported on 45-year old Barry Beach, who was convicted of the 1979 killing of a 17-year old girl on Fort Peck Indian Reservation. The conviction was obtained as a result of a confession he gave to Louisiana authorities while in jail for an unrelated crime. Beach is serving a 100-year prison term without the possiblity of parole, but now argues that the confession was "coerced." As he puts it, "I was so scared I would have said anything to get away from them. I was 20 years old. The Rejection Collection Vol. 2: The Cream of the Crap One man’s garbage is another man’s gold, or in this case a rejection pile of discarded cartoons for the New Yorker can turn into a pile of dough. Seems the formula is working the first rejection book was quite funny to see what the editorial staff will accept to be published in their fine magazine. Call me uncultured or say what you may, but sometimes those cartoons chosen for the magazine are not that funny. Did I miss the boat, or subtlety a part of the fixture of picking the cartoons. Usually it is being rejected by men, being back in high school and getting rejected by boys I thought were cute for example. But last night’s dream had a twist.
