The American Housewife household has been entertaining guests this week. My parents and my inlaws were visiting (yes, both at the same time!) and although they officially came to celebrate 'Grandparents Day' at my youngest child's school, they admittedly had two more reasons. 1) My Dad was going to put new struts on my husbands car and 2) My father wanted to show off his latest Cadillac.Yes, my family has always been a 'Cadillac' family. Ever since I was about 8 years old my father has owned a Cadillac. He upgrades about every 2 years on average and last week they bought their most recent. Perhaps because of my age, I'm not into Cadillac's right now, preferring my Land Rover to anything else on the market right now, but I do admit that some of the newer Cadillac's do look sharp. Cadi

EPA's Scientists Regularly Pressured or Ignored for Political Reasons — UCS Investigation
A couple months ago I posted about how the EPA overruled its own experts and denied California's plan to address greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks. Well this pattern of using politics, rather than science, to create rules and justify actions by the EPA has infected the agency to a dangerous degree, according to a new report. The Union of Concerned Scientists, concerned about how the EPA's decisions "have too often led to the suppression and the distortion of the scientific findings underlying those decisions," took on the task of investigating the treatment of EPA scientists and how their work was used. After a comprehensive survey of over 1500 EPA scientists, UCS found that 60% of the had encountered at least one instance of political interference in the previous five years.

As such, many experts are recommending that we only check emails twice/day ... to minimize our interruptions. But I think that's a pretty bad idea. Here's why:Checking for emails only twice a day will likely result in an inability to keep our inbox current. The resultant Inbox Overload, which I believe is one of the main triggers of workplace overwhelm and procrastination, is a centerpiece of poor time management.Checking for emails only twice a day will likely result in us missing important, time-sensitive, communications that, quite possibly, could save us from a LOT of unnecessary make-work ... if we only knew that priorities had changed ... before we did all that work we just did.Checking for emails only twice a day signals to your coworkers that you don't really care much about what they have to say. For all the webmaster and bloggers you must always keep in mind that the most important thing that once your blog is in the blogosphere market and into the web, you tend to have your blog rank higher in search engine and have a healthy page rank. If you think that you want to have your blog rank higher without any effort, you are making a mistake, once the blog is up in the web, you gotta update it daily or weekly as once the search engine picks up your blog content and keyword they give you much chance of featuring higher, but in case you failed to update it, you are gone and your blog ranking would go down as well.
