Sony Rewards Offers Gift Card Redemption Now
I pointed out in this post that Sony Rewards had credited 10,000 bonus points in our accounts at www.sonyrewards.com on April 24, 2008. The promotion from Sony Card was a really great deal. I have never seen such a huge bonus from a certain credit card for simply using $500 in a month. Yes, usually [...]

Is There Any Redemption In War? On Dickinson's Poem #1227 [Digg]
FTA: "A Bayonet's contrition / Is nothing to the Dead."Emily Dickinson certainly despises war. But the questions in her poem aren't shrill rhetorical ones meant to disparage the fact wars are fought. Her questions aim at what else is possible, starting with the fact that somehow, we can deal with such great pains.

Capcom offers box art 'redemption' for Okami Wii
Capcom has responded to the Okami Wii box snafu by offering replacement cover artwork "to better reflect the artistic nature of the game," which we presume is a more professional way to say "to better remove the reflection of the IGN watermark."Head over to the Cover Artwork Redemption page (yes, they call it redemption) to fill out the form and choose one of three designs, including a "redesigned" version of the original. Previews for the other two replacements are shown above. The offer is free and an email confirmation from Capcom states the cover art will be shipping "in the next few weeks."

Savvy Travel: Saints, Sinners and Redemption
The Budget Babe's International Travel Advisor Fifi LaMode explores the rich spiritual and religious traditions of Guatemala. —TBB by Fifi LaMode Guatemala is a Catholic country for the most part. But due to its rich pre-Christian traditions, many of the old customs have been incorporated into Catholic rites. Sometimes the lines get blurred, as in the case of Maximon, a mixture of Judas Iscariot and St. Simon, who always seems to be smoking a cigar. His popularity stems from his human weaknesses (and in colonial times, because the church didn't like Judas, the Mayans adopted him as a form of protest for being forced to renounce their old beliefs) - he's the patron of prostitutes, mob bosses and other characters living on the fringes of society. An offering to Maximon, or Herma

The Shawshank Redemption (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1994)
When this popular prison drama was released in 1994, some critics complained that the movie was too long (142 minutes) to sustain its story. Those complaints miss the point, because the passage of time is crucial to this story about patience, the squeaky wheels of justice, and the growth of a life-long friendship. Only when the film reaches its final, emotionally satisfying scene do you fully understand why writer-director Frank Darabont (adapting a novella by Stephen King) allows the story to unfold at its necessary pace, and the effect is dramatically rewarding. Tim Robbins plays a banker named Andy who's sent to Shawshank Prison on a murder charge, but as he gets to know a life-term prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman), we realize there's reason to believe the banker's crime was justifia

I'm not a bleeding heart type. Most people would consider me an asshole. I speak my mind, call it like I see it with no regard for PC pleasantries, and I make an effort to clean my own house before I bitch about the filth of others; that is often mistaken as arrogance, condescension, and projecting vibes of superiority. So be it.I don't generally share my feelings outside of my inner circle, and I find strangers and acquaintances gushing their personal feelings and business to me about as tasteful, appropriate, and interesting as them sharing their farts. That being said, Nathan Winograd's Redemption has my eyes watering, my head spinning, and my stomach in knots. What a horrible disillusionment it is to find out that large and powerful organizations with names that include "Humane" and "Prevention of Cruelty" are for the most part apathetic and defeatist butchers who do little more than lecture and kill and cash checks. Now, I realize that my disgust is just about as relevant as a by

I'd heard of Nathan Winograd before Redemption came out, and I even placed that link to his blog on my blogroll before the avalanche of recent blog posts by Pet Connection, Terrierman, Lassie Get Help, Dogged et al hit the presses. But I can't claim early adopter status, or even a great deal of sympathy for or knowledge of his views (yet), all out of ignorance and apathy, not any sort of malice. You see, when I read his name combined with his work in San Francisco, I immediately thought that he must be related to Terry Winograd, one of the best Computer Science professors I had at Stanford. After all, how many Winograds can there be in the bay area, let alone on the Stanford campus; they must be related especially since they have more than a passing resemblance to each other. If Nathan is anything like what I assume is his father, then he must be an engaging speaker with a soft style that belies a razor sharp intellect.I read his online material about feral cat populations at Stanford

How's it? Let's get ready for another Fantasy Friday. It's a little too early to talk about basketball pickups, so for now I'm sticking with strictly football. That Pats / Colts game isn't getting enough hype is it? Geez. Just wake me up on a Sunday already because I can't take this overexposure. If Jesus doesn't show up and catch a TD I'm going to be very disappointed. Next week I'll mix in some hoops talk and hopefully be able to give you some more information on where Mark and I plan on taking the site. Redemption and Forgiveness Portrayed
In the past, I have usually been drawn to characters who have exhibited the need for redemption and forgiveness. Three of the most interesting have been portrayed on television to varying degrees. Angel from “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, was introduced as the mysterious “good” vampire with a soul, who develops an unrequited love for Buffy while seeking forgiveness and redemption for past deeds until we learned of the gypsy curse - that if he reaches a state of fulfillment, he would lose his soul. The inevitable happens, when he and Buffy have sex on her seventeenth birthday (Surprise , Innocence). Angel loses his soul, becomes evil and torments her by killing those closest to her until the season finale where she sends him into a Hell dimension, but not before Willow discovers the curse and restores his soul, using her ever increasing powers as a “good witch”. Check to the right of this blog for previous posts.Hi Bob!Before I get to the topic at hand, I thought I would tell you this. Hardly anyone in my church comments on this blog. Those who comment are usually bloggers. However, many folks read it. I had a conversation on Saturday with someone who reads Shuck and Jive regularly. She told me how much she appreciated our conversation. Most of what we write is lengthy and heady theological stuff. It is not for everyone. However, many people are truly interested in honest intelligent conversations between ministers. They usually don't like listening to (or observing) ministers fight (although I am not above doing that on occasion), so it is refreshing to tackle these areas with style. Thanks to you for that! Redemption for America
This July 4, I will celebrate the idea of America and the knowledge that America once was as a great secular democracy. However, I cannot in good conscience celebrate what America has become. Long before George W. Bush, we sold our democracy to corporate interests. Fundraising has become the true test of a politician's suitability for office, making one's stand on the issues all but irrelevant. Shameless pandering to superstition and ignorance has largely replaced meaningful public discourse. We have abandoned our repeated commitment to provide international aid sufficient to meet the Millennium Development Goals, simply hoping the public will not notice or not care. And now, thanks to a foreign policy characterized by unilateralism, imperialism, Christian premilleniumism, and militarism, America has joined global terrorism as a major threat to the world's stability, security, and prosperity. And yet, I believe that redemption is possible. The Bush administration has done more than a

You also have to think “What made “Max Payne” a smash hit?” It was their perfect incorporation of bullet time into the game, even in ‘Enter the Matrix” its not as smooth as in “Max Payne”. There is no way an Independent company is going to get the CGI right in this movie, you need big funding for that. We enter the large box-like shoe store, and almost right away I see something that would suffice what I am looking for. We poke around some more and I see another pair of leather slip-on sandals, by a very reputable brand which I know do not hurt my feet, nor my ailing knees or hip. They are brown, tremendously comfortable, look good (to me) and would be a most sensible purchase. They cost $79.99. Ben likes them. I decide to make the more expensive, sensible purchase. Palestine: Dick Cheney’s Redemption?
Recent headlines underscore the dire situation in Palestine, once again proving (as if there were any need of further proof) that the obstacles to be overcome in maintaining a secure, successful Palestinian state are as intricate as they are numerous. The region, for decades synonymous with violence and confrontation, has seen any progress voided by subsequent regression. The result has been, at best, a zero sum game, and not for lack of trying. Few are the nations who have not attempted to influence either one side or the other, with some of the brightest minds in various sectors working on the cause. Nevertheless, the problem persists, and proposed solutions usually revolve around the same sets of ideas. It’s therefore an encouraging thing when one hears a proposal which is not only fresh and exciting, but also viable. iBurst seeks "redemption" with swift reaction
Recently, new planned data-pricing was sent out to resellers of iBurst, the feature of which was a serious figure increase in out-of-bundle data rates. Needless to say, when the public caught wind of a possible 614% increase in bandwidth cost, they were not pleased. This information, which shocked many, was initially only released for internal review of the ICASA, but was somehow “leaked”. Generally, such "leakages" are seen in a negative light, but it seems that it was more positive in the case of iBurst. As a result, they have managed to gain some serious consumer insight as far as gauging the prices of bandwidth are concerned. Luckily for iBurst, they are desperate to be seen as one of those companies that do care about what consumers, namely theirs, have to say, and were very efficient in dealing with the whole matter. They lodged their new prices with ICASA just yesterday, and are awaiting imminent approval. This kind of speedy reaction to public criticism

      Redemption Through Coulter Cash
Johnny Edwards was crushed by Ann Coulter’s recent remarks at CPAC. Initially he protested that he was certainly not gay, just the son of a humble mill worker. After pausing to collect his thoughts, Edwards condemned the slur, but then got all Jesus and refused to speak ill of Ann. A spokesperson for the former Senator did say Miss Coulter could just forget that guest spot as a medical skeleton on Grey’s Anatomy.Later Good Fellow John used the whole incident as a teaching moment: "I think it’s important that we not reward hateful, selfish, childish behavior with attention,"Of course, by “attention” Edwards did not mean utilizing the incident to beg alms. His campaign wasted no time in posting the slur vid on his website. With just a click you can hear Ann say faggot (which she told Sean Hannity was just a playground taunt) for the one billionth time, and then get an opportunity to lighten your pocketbook. They are calling this "Coulter Cash". They hope to raise $100, 000 to

      Redemption :)
Current Mood: Ok, I know I said I wasn’t really interested in sex anymore. Well, I didn’t lie, but my hormones changed their mind. Surprise, surprise. I’ve been talking to this guy named Brandon for a few months. I met him on yahoo, but our friendship changed from IMs to text and naughty picture messages. He’s from Tulsa. I’ve been leary of meeting men from the net since you-know-who, so I just talked with Brandon a lot without the intention of ever meeting him. We’d been talking every night for the last week or so. Last night was no different. Our conversation quickly became arousing - to say the least. It was day 23 for me without any sexual contact whatsoever (even masturbation because the cervical surgery - had to give it time to heal), so it didn’t take much to get me horny as hell. He brought up the subject of meeting again. I made a ton of excuses why I couldn’t yet, as usual. But he had an answer for every damn one of them. I had run out of reasons and my

      The long road to redemption
Last week's loss at San Diego was a tough one. We dominated them throughout the majority of the game and then fell apart in the fourth quarter. Our defense looked good as they have for the majority of the season and our offense continues to improve so there is hope for the future. The "forward pass" call by the officials was a tough call to take. By the rules, it may have been the correct call but if that is the case the rules need to be changed. Here is some food for thought: Is Nnamdi Asomugha actually becoming one of the top corners in the league? I think so.The promoting of John Shoop to offensive coordinator was a good move. Tom Walsh struggled to adapt to our opponents defensive schemes and didn't call plays based on the abilities of our players. I am hoping that this move will provide a spark and maybe get Randy Moss "happy". The poor performance of our team thus far has brought to light some questions for the upcoming offseason. What do we do with

Is there hope for Ray Palmer and Jean Loring finding redemption and repair?
I looked at this recent interview with Gail Simone from Newsarama. Towards the end, this is what she says:NRAMA: Starting to wrap this up, as with any long-term character, changing the individual under the mask is rarely met with open arms. Do you feel as if you've cleared a hump with Atom in that regard...and there is a growing acceptance, or are you more like Ron Marz, and Ryan is your Kyle Rayner?GS: I think Ron did a brilliant job with Kyle, to the point where even huge Hal fans felt at least some affection for the character. Ryan's a little different, in that he himself feels a little bit like a placeholder.Did I happen to mention the title for the arc starting in issue twelve? No?Okay. It's called, "The Hunt For Ray Palmer"See? Slogging through these long interviews does have its rewards!Well I should hope that whatever she's script-writing does too, and will be about Ray, if he turns up, searching to prove his ex-wife's innocence. Otherwise, I have no interest in this

Review: The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - An epic drama(9/10) It has not been 5 minutes since the closing cast came up and I am already sketching my review of this film. Truly magnificent, it will unanimously go down in the annuls of cinema history, as the best of the best that Hollywood has churned out. I will personally recommend this to any audience who sits in front of the television! Watch trailer Directed by Frank Darabont (Green Mile), Tim Robbins and the inevitable Morgan Freeman light the screen in this mind blowing drama based Stephen King's novel. This is a story of the young and very successful banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who is sentenced to a double life imprisonment in the Shawshank penitentiary after being framed for the murder of his wife and her lover. Quickly, the more reticent Andy makes thick friends with inmate Red (Morgan Freeman), one who is known to "get things from time to time for a price" among associates. Red is a small time smuggler of goods
