Recalling the greatest Ralph Kinerisms on this baseball Opening Day
As we usher in a new baseball season, I thought I'd start off my regular Mets thoughts with a series of quotes from the incomparable Ralph Kiner, the Mets' longtime broadcaster. Ralph is known well for his butchering of just about, well, anything he ever said. These are some of his best lines ever, as compiled by the Baseball Almanac. Here's to another great season of Mets baseball — and, oh, good luck to the Yankees, too."All of his saves have come in relief appearances" Source: Sports Illustrated (July 5, 1989)"All of the Mets road wins against the Dodgers this year occurred at Dodger Stadium.""Cadillacs are down at the end of the bat." Source: Book of Sports Quotes (Bert Sugar)"Darryl Strawberry has been voted to the Hall of Fame five years in a row.""Hello, everybody. Welcome to Kiner

      Recalling the past few weeks
The past Sunday, we went to the water tower to buy two pair of shoes for my nephews. Last week, I took Annya to a doctor (we changed the doctor because my insurance policy changed), she weighed 18 lbs and measured 27 inches (around 50 percentile range) Emma did a "presentation" about herself, China, and her favorite dress. I wonder how it went. The weekend before, we went to the Art

CLIMATE CHANGE: interview with Thomas Bunge, Recalling the World's First Steps Toward Climate Protection
The passage of the Montreal ozone protocol 20 years ago was a milestone in international climate protection. DW-WORLD.DE spoke to Thomas Bunge, a member of the German delegation, who was part of the historic event. Thomas Bunge represented Germany's Federal Environment Agency in drawing up the "Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer" in September 1987. The lawyer is currently responsible for Environment and Spatial Planning at the agency.DW-WORLD.DE: Why was the 1987 Montreal protocol so significant?Thomas Bunge: That was the beginning of international regulations to protect the earth's atmosphere. Until then, there was only regulation of long-range, transnational air pollution. People tried for the first time to resolve a worldwide problem through international law, although in retrospect, the regulations then were certainly inadequate. Can you briefly explain why they were inadequate? The regulations agreed in 1987 were supposed to reduce the production and use

Frank Rich on Recalling the Defective Rove
Frank Rich writes that August is the month to recall defective products. For the Bush administration the defective product is Karl Rove. Rich notes that even some on the right have lost confidence in Rove: What the Rove critics on the right recognize is that it may be even more difficult for their political party to dig out of his wreckage than it will be for America. Their angry bill of grievances only sporadically overlaps that of the Democrats. One popular conservative blogger, Michelle Malkin, mocked Mr. Rove and his interviewer, Paul Gigot, for ignoring “the Harriet Miers debacle, the botching of the Dubai ports battle, or the undeniable stumbles in post-Iraq invasion policies,” not to mention “the spectacular disaster of the illegal alien shamnesty.” Ms. Malkin, an Asian-American in her 30s, comes from a far different place than the Gigot-Fred Barnes-William Kristol axis of Bush-era ideological lock step. Those Bush dead-enders are in a serious state of de

Imagine: Recalling Every Minute Detail of Every Trip You’ve Ever Taken
Steven Wiltshire, an autistic savant who’s known as “The Living Camera”, can accurately sketch a five yard wide pencil drawing of an entire cityscape right down to the number of windows in each and every building after taking just one (yes, one) helicopter ride over his subject. Digital SLR cameras, eat your heart out. And to think, I’m excited if I can make it to level five in Simon.

      Recalling the Kishon River
If there is one clear example of a wasted and contaminated river today, the Kishon River of Israel would be it. The Kishon River has been contaminated for over 40 years by thrown chemical wastes and metals from Israeli chemical plants. Hence, seeing that this practice was not addressed for over 40 years will make people think what this river now looks like. It has indeed been something gone to waste. A river full of contaminations and polluted chemicals that has made the water of Israel very much something to be wary off. A lot of people have inherited health problems because of it and the spoken word alone of the Kishon is something aware people are truly afraid of… even at gunpoint. Here are some facts as provided by the Israelis themselves. Download latest version of Flash to view video! . Recall: Chrysler recalling 489,000 vehicles
Reuters is reporting that the Chrysler Group has issued a large recall for over 489,000 vehicles. The one recall is actually three recalls across a variety of models for different issues. The largest affects 328,424 Dodge Durango SUVs produced between 2004 and 2006. There is an integrated circuit in the instrument cluster of these Durangos that could overheat.[Source: Autoblog]Continued- ArticleThe second recall affects 149,605 Jeep Liberty SUVs produced between 2006 and 2007. The blower motor on these Liberties could fail, particularly in hot weather. Finally, the third recall affects the brand new 2008 Dodge Avenger sedan (pictured above). About 10,994 Avengers are being recalled for problems with their door latches. This fairly major recall follows another recall Chrysler announced in late February that involved 51,000 vehicles requiring reprogrammed software for their anti-lock brakes. Unfortunately for Tom LaSorda and crew, these recent recalls are not exactly the best foot the Ch

Recall: VW recalling 790,000 vehicles for brakelights issues
Volkswagen has discovered that a previous recall of 362,000 vehicles (1999-2002 Jettas and 1998-2002 New Beetles) for a defective brake light switch actually affects a much larger range of vehicles. The German automaker is extending the recall to an additional 790,000 vehicles that include 1999-2006 Golf and GTI models, 2001-2005 Jettas, 2001-2007 New Beetles and the 2004 R32. The possibility exists that brake light switches in these vehicles may have been installed wrong, which could lead to their remaining on all the time or not working at all. In an extreme possibility, some vehicles with automatic transmissions might be immobilized if the brake light switch can't be activated so that the transmission can be shifted out of Park. When the new recall begins in April, VW dealers will install a new brake light switch free of charge for owners of the affected vehicles. If you think your vehicle is included in the recall or have any questions, you call VW at 1-800-822-8987.[Source: Autob
