A couple of weeks back a young girl was allegedly attacked and raped near to Moreton Road in Wistaston. Nobody wants to hear that such incidents are happening on our doorstep, or anywhere else for that matter. There is an attacker out there who, potentially, could strike again. However, I noticed today that a young man has been arrested and charged. Moreover, as with all such cases, his name has been revealed. Is this right? Now I hope that the attacker is caught, prosecuted and sent to prison for a long time. We cannot tolerate such horrendous acts on another. But the man is not due to appear at Chester Crown Court until July. Should the case collapse or he be able to prove his innocence, then he will walk free. But mud sticks. There will be many who will never forget his name. He will be forever remembered by some as a rapist, even if he does prove otherwise. I have always felt that this situation is wrong. The problem is that he’s considered too dangerous to release, he was accused of rape while in prison, and has done little to nothing to rehabilitate himself. In fact, he refused any treatment. Sounds to me like Callow is at high risk of re-offending. So why is he being let out to begin with? He isn’t classified as a dangerous offender - that would require him re-offending under current law.
