Continuing a increasingly apparent trend at Computex, Aiptek is planning to show their new PocketCinema V10 mini-projector. Details are still a little slim at the moment, but Aiptek has released a basic spec set, claiming a support for MPEG-4 video, JPEG stills, a 3-in-1 input jack (that's as specific as they get), 1gb of onboard storage, and SD/MMC/MS Pro expansion capability.

Honlai's MP100 Palm-Sized LED Projector For Puny PowerPoint Presentations [Projectors]The MP100 may not be as capable as other palm-sized projectors, but what it lacks in terms of spec it makes up for in design. Sony unveils four E-Series 3LCD projectors in Asia-PacificIf you reckoned that Sony's VPL-EX4 and VPL-ES4 were getting a bit long in the tooth, we suppose Sony agrees. Across the way (in Asia-Pacific, to be precise), Sony has launched four new PJs on us: the VPL-EW5, VPL-EX50, VPL-EX5 and VPL-ES5. According to the company, the whole lot is aimed at boardroom masters, but these 3LCD units and their 2,500 ANSI lumens would certainly hold their own after hours. Additionally, the first three incorporate Sony's BrightEra imaging technology, and you'll find resolutions as high as WXGA (1,280 x 800) and contrast ratios up to 900:1. For more specifics on each, check out the nitty-gritty in the read link below.(Via Engadget.)

First comment from this forum :"I am trying to investigate using projectors in our distance learning labs rather than the TV monitors that we currently have. The problem is, when I look at the specs I have no reference point to go by (knowing nothing of projectors). So, if I look at the lumens I don't know what is bright enough for a lighted classroom, etc. I can figure out how large the area projected from a given distance is, and that kind of "room specific" parameter. What I need to know is minimum resolution, brightness, and possibly the more robust brands to look at for a classroom environment. Another angle may be cost of maintenance. We have a $10k HD projector in our student center for "movie night" and other activities, and I just found out they go through about 2 $300 bulbs per year. That times the 13 or so rooms I intend to convert gets a little pricey. BTW, these rooms will prob be going to the Vtel Vista codecs, so compatability with that is a must. Thanks"see this fo

Projectors: Epson Unveils Slim MovieMate 50 and High-Def MovieMate 72 DVD Projectors: "I'm already a huge fan of DVD-projector combos, so Epson's new LCD-projector MovieMates make me titter like a school girl. The first thing Epson did was solve its size problem with the MovieMate 50. The new one is 63% slimmer than its predecessor—with a built-in handle!—yet still costs $799. But the inevitable shift to high-def has happened earlier than I would have predicted, with the advent of the MovieMate 72.If you haven't already guessed it, the 72 refers to 720p. It's not a full 1080p, but a big step in the right direction, and at $1,199, hard to pass up. When you're projecting an image 100 inches across, it's all too easy to see the screen-door effect of the pixels from a 480p-resolution chip. The jump to 720p triples the number of pixels. With the requisite internal DVD upscaling, the image remains a lot smoother when you project it big. Also, since there's an HDMI input, you'd be
Rise Above is the forthcoming album by indie band, Dirty Projectors and is set to be released on September 11, 2007. It will feature Grizzly Bear members Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear. All the songs have already been performed live and are often paired with material from the New Attitude EP, released in 2006. The only other information known is that the entire piece is an attempt by Dave Longstreth to rewrite the entire Black Flag album, Damaged, from memory.Track ListingWhat I See - 3:27No More - 3:48Depression - 2:48Six Pack - 3:05Thirsty and Miserable - 5:55Police Story - 4:23Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie - 4:50Spray Paint (The Walls) - 3:38Room 13 - 4:47Rise Above - 5:03
In 2003, primary Dirty Projector Dave Longstreth shocked and awed critics with his debut The Glad Fact, a strange, messy collection of singularly beautiful songs. In 2004, he bewildered fans and critics alike with his challenging orchestral suite Slaves’ Graves & Ballads. The new album will astonish again, as Longstreth trades his wabi-sabi for an arsenal of subwoofing sin waves, stoned rhinemaidens, clipshod beats, bone-crushing riffs played by wind orchestras, weird de-tuned guitars, and Wagnerian psychodrama. It is as subtle and flinty a piece of protest music as "A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall"— but in the end it is a love story, recorded over the course of almost two years in three different states with more than twenty-five people. "One of the most prolific and unique indie singer/songwriters of the early 2000s."
Dirty Projectors‘ Dave Longstreth was cleaning out his parents’ house when he found the empty cassette case to Black Flag’s Damaged. With some time on his hands (I’m guessing, based on how little there is to do after your parents go to bed at 8 p.m.) and a spare four-track, he re-produced Damaged from memory. This re-imagining will be Dirty Projectors’ next LP, titled Rise Above.

So here is a band that has me very intrigued. Dirty Projectors seem to be building some buzz right now with their album coming out very soon from the new imprint out of Bloomington that brought you Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar, called Dead Oceans. The new label is already home to Bishop Allen and now these guys are preparing to release their album, Rise Above, on September 11.
The album is a re-imagining of the Black Flag album, Damaged. And even though I am not a huge punk rock nostalgist, I can tell you that despite the concept, these guys sound next to nothing like Black Flag. Adding to the aforementioned buzz, a Take Away Show appearance was made by the band, as well as a stop in with the folks at Daytrotter. I have not been able to listen to the entire album yet, but I will soon and a full report will be going up at that time. Until then, enjoy this song, “No More” from the upcoming album. In addition, the band is hitting the road with Yacht & some oth

OK, so originally we had cell phones to make phone calls, then they added cameras, then they added music (aka the iPhone and Sony Walkman to name just two). Well now those clever people in Korea have decided that we also need a video projector with our cell phones.SK Telecom will be selling phones equipped with a ‘Nano Projector’. The ‘Nano Projector’ can throw a 20 inch image onto a screen or wall and still fit inside existing cell phones. The first editions of these video projector phones should be out in September. No date on when or if we will see them here in the States.Source: Digital World Tokyo
Cary Brothers (first name Cary, last name Brothers) is probably best known for his song "Blue Eyes" which was included by Zach Braff on the Garden State OST but what I really want to say is that he has a new album called Who You Are ready to be released next Tuesday. The truth of the matter is (is) that Who You Are is a polished and radio friendly album that is the perfect vehicle to showcase Brothers' crystalline vocals. I really don't know what it is that draws me into this album since I liken it to what I would normally call "wussified pop rock" but I think that Zach Braff got it right. This is music that would be perfect on a movie soundtrack during some sentimental montage or simply perfect playing from your stereo on a Saturday afternoon as the soundtrack to your life. Who You Are (with the proper promotional push) and the strength of the lead single "Jealousy" should propel Cary Brothers into mainstream consciousness. Pleasant for your ears but with just enough substance t

In a race I was watching closely... Fox News has just called Florida 13 for the Republican Buchanan with 96% of the precincts reporting. This one was projected for Jennings the challenger by Novak, Elliot, Sabato and pretty much everyone else. I believe that they were spooked by Majority Watch and Democratic pollsters... I feel better about my decision not to go strictly with the polls. Of course it's a long night and I could go wrong down the line.
I was just taking part in a debate on the use of grids or projectors and whether using them is 'cheating'. I think it is partly to do with the way your brain is 'wired' . Many old masters used camera obscuras which is only the equivalent of projectors etc or using the computer.I don't like grids or tracing - so for me it doesn't work. It makes my work go stiff and and I hate it - I need the slight inconsistencies, the natural distortions that I add unconsciously, that emphasise lines and compositions. I like my lines to be fluid and rapidly drawn and none of that is possible with tracing - for me anyway. If you draw a fluid flowing line fast and then copy it slowly, tracing or gridding, it loses the spontaneity of the original. To me that's important but it isn't in everyone's work - so it depends on the work you do whether it's better to work freehand or not.I'm totally right brained on tests (with zero organisational skills! ) and I think those with a higher left brain ele
