Professors study healing potential of clay
Two Arizona State University professors are trying to dig up new medical cures, studying the use of clay to combat some of the planet's deadliest bacterial infections. The researchers, geochemist Lynda Williams and microbiologist Shelley Haydel, already have demonstrated that certain clays are able to wipe out microbes responsible for MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), as well as intestinal bugs such as E. coli and salmonella. But they remain stumped as to how it works. "We know they kill bacteria, but we don't know why," Williams said. "The 'eureka' moment - we haven't had that yet." ~ more... ~

Professors bring Indonesia to the classroom
Two ASU professors hope to change the perception of one Southeast Asian country by integrating it into their classrooms.Mark Woodward, a religious studies professor, and Peter Suwarno, an international letters and cultures professor, were guest speakers at the Seventh Annual Conference on Islamic Studies in Jakarta, Indonesia, last Wednesday, Nov. 21.The two were among a handful of scholars from the Western world at the conference to discuss the future developments of Islamic studies around the world and the key role Indonesia plays internationally."Students don't even realize how much the country of Indonesia affects them," Woodward said. "From the clothes they wear, to the clove cigarettes they smoke and the Java coffee they drink — the influence is everywhere."But for such a highly religious country with more than 200 million of its people identifying as Muslim, Woodward said Indonesia has played a unique international role.Since around 1998, the country has been an example of ho

      Release those professors now
I do not know what technological and scientific advance this regime is speaking about when it jails some of the best university professors in Egypt and send them to stand in front of the a military court !! I am speaking of those honourable men standing currently in front of a military court ,whose only guilt is their belonging to the Muslim brotherhood By the way I heard that these men are separating between their academic life and their political life I found this in Hatshepsut's blog and I thought it is worth to be spread online "Click on them please for a better view"                                  You may agree or disagree with what the MB believe in and think but if you believe in democracy and freedom than you must agree those men ,especially those men should not stay for another second in jail , their place is not in jail , it is not in military court ,it is the in university class rooms

iTunes U — are the canned lectures a benefit to the students … or to the professors?
In his article YouTube U. Andy Kessler suggests it’s the professors. Some highlights: Without much fanfare, college lectures are being put online, for free. MIT lectures can be downloaded from iTunes University, and you can watch Cal professors pontificate on your computer via YouTube. Is this some new trend? Do colleges feel threatened by Wikipedia? Something funny is going on. No one gives anything away for free without some ulterior motive. I mean, don’t they know college is big business? Right now, 17 million students are involved in higher education, some higher than others. As a business, college is growing faster than sales of multicolored Crocs. Since 1980, the population of students under 25 has grown 40 percent–and for those over 25, it’s up even more at 52 percent. Is this what your neighbors are doing during the day? Could be. Even better (for colleges, anyway), since 2002 tuition has jumped 35 percent in real terms (that’s adjusted for in

      Professors
So we all know that professors say some interesting things. Well, I have two this semester who say stuff that make me laugh all the time. One is Professor Curtis. He was talking about the slogan “Be Like Mike” and he turned to me and says “Let’s change it to ‘Be Like Gene.’” Its a great idea, becuase of course everybody wants to be like me, well except for most people. Haha! Professor Curtis is a teacher who never loses your attention. He keeps class so interesting, even though the class is at 8 in the morning. The other professor is Professor Zudeck, or Mr. Zoo. He says that he is believes in hair transplant and is even a donor.” This is because he doesn’t have a lot of hair. He will also repeatedly ask if anybody wants to drop the class after he explains an assignment.  Professor like these are the greatest becuase they always keep your attention and they make you want to show up to class becuase you want to hear what they have t

      Essay on Professors
Professors all wear glasses. The lenses are usually thick, scratched and dirty (as are the professors). Men who are professors have a big bald patch at the front. At the back they have either long, frizzy hair or an even bigger bald patch. Women who are professors have grey hair that looks like cloth. It hasn't been combed since they were 12. 25 Ways To Confuse Your Professors
Brush your teeth during class. While doing so, raise your hand as if you have a question, and mumble your question incoherently while brushing, spewing toothpaste all over the place. If your professor objects to your actions, go on a tirade about proper oral hygiene. Sit way at the back of the room, up against the wall, to get as far away from your professor as possible. While he/she is lecturing, shout out things like, “What!?” and “Speak up! You’re mumbling!” If your professor advises you to sit closer to the front, tell him/her you can’t because you’re scouting the room for “assassins.” If you have an early morning class, get there before anyone else, and bring a pillow, some blankets, an air mattress, and an alarm clock. Wear your pajamas. Lie down on the air mattress with the pillow and the blankets and act like you’re asleep. Have the alarm set for about two minutes into class. When it goes off, preferably very loudly,
