The best geek pranks involve making a gadget or a piece of software appear broken. Since the tech savvy will quickly notice these pranks, they are best performed on the inept, the perpetually preoccupied and the woefully unaware. >>

The Swiss Spaghetti HarvestIn 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in, and many called up wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. My favorite technology prank is disabling someones desktop icons and making them appear to still be there. First you take a picture of the desktop, (print screen button) then you open up a picture editor and edit paste the picture in, (paint) next you save the picture so you can find it later. Now you switch their desktop background to the picture you just saved. And finally you right click, arrange icons by, show desktop icons. This will turn off their icons, but since you took the picture with the icons showing, they will appear to still be there. Surely you can do better then that. Another prank you can play, which is a little bit more complicated, but IS WAY MORE FUN is if you have a web site of your own and email also, you can actually put anything you want into the From email address. I did this a long time ago when I was hosting a web site on HostGo, and I was able to log into the email control panel and write emails where I could put whatever I wanted into the From address....not sure if you can still do this, but if you can then do it! Here's what I did...My wife was in college at that time and she had borrowed a bunch of books from the library during exams...so I wrote an email pretending to come from library@college.edu which stated that she had taken books without permission and was now going to be charged a fine of $50. I was hoping she would call me and complain, but instead she was so mad she went straight to the library and gave them a good mouthful!!! ahahahaha Boy was she mad when she found out!I also sent my father an email from sales@bestbuy.com
