I just spilled coffee all over my computer keyboard. While horrified at the damage, I was fascinated to see how the coffee pooled in the middle of the keys. I’ve never seen the like before. It’s an Apple keyboard. The keys have a glossy finish and are slightly depressed in the center. Of course, most of the coffee drained off the keys and collected in the keyboard’s base, which is made of transparent plastic. I wish i’d got a picture of that. It looked like one of those paperweights filled with oil and water, but in this case, it was a muddy brown liquid. But the coffee drained out when I turned it over. I shall run the keyboard through the dishwasher to see if that myth works.

This is one of the recent ones in the Time and Tide series, a smallish one of just under 3ft tall. It's about those evenings where the clouds and colours are patterned and vivid, layers of different coloured clouds, delicate peach pinks, small fluffy clouds that are lower and the pool reflecting it all.The pattern element was important as it was that sort of evening. I think I have mentioned several times were going to have a very large pond or very small lake depending on how you look at it on the back of our property. This pond will be filtered by a wet weather stream that comes down through the mountains. The sandstone (which is also loaded with iron) help to filter the water as it flows down the mountainsides. It also pics up a lot of iron which gives it a beautiful blue green color when it gathers in one spot. We want to be able to swim in this pond as well as raise fish as a source of food. If were going to swim in it its going to have to be cleaner than an average pond in the mountains. The biggest problem with local ponds are the fall leaves which settle at the bottom and decay and release smelly gasses. You certainly don’t want to step in those. Mud is another issue but we hope to be able to coat the bottom of the pond with sand and gravel (and if we find enough large rock while its being dug out creating some underwater rock

Proper water balance will also extend the life of your pump, filter and any other equipment as well as making pool care quick and easy.So, just what should be tested and why? First and most importantly, the sanitizer (chlorine, bromine etc.) needs to be within the proper range. Next pH and total alkalinity need to be monitored. When testing sanitizer the only useful measurement is for free chlorine or bromine; free means available for duty. Sanitizers are used up in keeping water clean as it combines with contaminants and forms chloramines. Chloramines are irritating, useless and need to be removed but form a component of Total Chlorine.All water has pH that is a measurement of acidity or alkalinity. If pH is too low water will tend to be corrosive, especially to any metal like heaters or ladders. If pH is too high the water will tend to form scale

The main culprit: trichloramine, or nitrogen trichloride, is created when chlorine reacts with ammonia, which can be found in the sweat and urine from swimmers.
