Our MPs are often criticized for not having an appreciation of the younger members of society, and in particular of the sexual habits and attitudes of more recent times.
It strikes me that, with the impending banning of family members from working for MPs, and a consequent influx of young and impressionable researchers and secretaries into a family-free work environment, this particular problem ma

What do these things all have in common:
1) wealthy private corporations funding election campaigns;
2) “corporate media” (i.e. huge multi-media companies) playing a crucial role in modern campaigns;
3) elected officials conducting themselves in brazen ways, mocking the electorate, blatantly abusing rules of ethics, in some cases routinely breaking the law, making it clear they will do [...]

Salon.com has an excellent article up today questioning why Washington culture rallies against prosecuting politicians for crimes. The caretakers are taken a bit more seriously when they take care of themselves. Nobody liked Hillary Clinton when she was looking her age- she was just a former First Lady. This blog entry starts a series of posts entitled America's Problems. The first problem that will be addressed in this series is the issue of politicians seeing politics as a career rather than an interlude from their actual life. The Federalist Papers states on the issue of election to the House of Representatives that besides the limitations that you must be a citizen for at least 7 years and be
Today manufacturers are developing cars that run on pure water. But these are actually very expensive and costly to maintain. That is why the best and least expensive option today is to convert any normal vehicle to run on a mixture of water and gasoline. Basically what it does is improve upon the current technology and doubles or triples your current gas mileage.The principals of this are basically very simple. With an easy to install device and minor modifications your car uses a low current from your battery to separate water (H2O) already in your fuel into a gas called HHO. This is known as Hydroxy or Brown Gas. The resulting mixture greatly improves your gas mileage, burns cleaner, and is actually easier on you car's engine than regular gasoline.This simple modification can be done by
With the news of Megastar Chiranjeevi making a political entry making strong rounds in the industry, this has kept even the experienced politicians on their toes and each party is making their own agenda to counter his arrival.However, it is heard that Chiru is said to be showing keen interest in associating with the communists and talks are on between both sides. One must say that if Chiru is looking at bringing about communism amongst the democratic forum, he better look at the fate of states like West Bengal and Kerala first. Corruption dances like an evil there.Also, given the fact that he is a fresher to this field, the chances are that the experienced and wily politicians will not lose out on any opportunity to utilize the charm and splendour of the Megastar just to meet their politi

Not half of the electorate will vote BNP. It will be a small percentage."The BNP is very good at targeting these sorts of polls. They have a network and they all bombard them."In these financially uncertain times, the last thing anyone needs to do is to vote BNP. The BNP offer nothing. This is not a party to be trusted with anyone's future."Speaking yesterday,

From The Guardian : But as repossessions rise, jobs are shed and the price of fuel and basic foodstuffs rocket, one waits in vain for the candidates to deliver a keynote speech on class of a similar standard. White working-class Americans are justified in their resentment about the way in which their needs and concerns are airbrushed from the national conversation or discussed in ways that bear little relevance to the root of their plight. Politicians too often cast the issue in populist terms of rich and poor, explains Michael Zweig, the director of the centre for study of working-class life at the State University of New York's Stonybrook campus. From: U.S. Lawmakers Invested in Iraq, Afghanistan Wars Members of Congress invested nearly 196 million dollars of their own money in companies that receive hundreds of millions of dollars a day from Pentagon contracts to provide goods and services to U.S. armed forces, say nonpartisan watchdog groups. David Petraeus, the top U.S. general in Iraq, is to brief the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest findings are unlikely to have a significant impact on this week's proceedings but could stoke anti-incumbent sentiment in this year of presidential and legislative elections. I think so. Our political environment has become so corrupted and futile, that the debates have turned into a third grade playground fight. I am really tired of this bullshit. First, there's Barack and his eloquent way of speaking, but then his preacher for 20 years has casted a dark cloud of bottled up racism. Then there's Hillary and the false assumption that she implies Bill. I thought she was smart enough to actually present herself as a potential presidential candidate, but she is too caught up in the 3rd grade playground fight with Barack.And on the other side of the ring is John. Good 'ol John. The war veteran, that was also a POW, which seems to encompass the all American presidential candidate. Hillary Clinton has lost the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama.No it's not official yet, but the media and the politicos have registered their tiredness with Hillary. The math, whether you go by delegates or states, is against her. Obama is closing in in Pennsylvania, where Hillary needed a 12-point win to really stay in it. She's now up by 6, or down by 2. Either way, her lead isn't big enough.The Bosnia story hurt her. I do not know why someone would invent such a story. I'm not truly convinced she even knew she was lying. I have often remembered events that did not happen in such-and-such a way. What makes me wonder is how her staff let her repeat it. Did they check the facts? If so, why let her lie? If not, they should be fired for negligence.Obama didn't implode over th
A bit ago, I said:If there were real elections in Zimbabwe, my cynical side tells meMugabe and ZANU-PF would still win, since the average Zimbabweandoesn't have much basis for comparison. Mugabe did indeed end Westerncontrol of the country. He does have popular support. Forcing him notto propagandize a couple months before an election wouldn't undo thepervasive effects of his twenty-five years of propaganda. But theopposition party, the MDC, would probably get quite a few seats - a lotmore than Mugabe would like. It would set itself up as a realopposition party, waiting for the elderly Mugabe to kick the bucket.Zimbabwe is not, and has never been, a real democracy. Chiranjeevi has one in built advantage that every political party in the state envies no end. It is his large and committed fan base. Just like the late NT Rama Rao, Chiranjeevi fans clubs and associations are now eagerly waiting for the announcement of a political party by their hero.The fans base is well established and has a presence in all cities, towns, villages and even small hamlets. Chiranjeevi fans base cuts across all religions as well as communities. Many of the fans are not active in politics and hence are not likely to have much experience in public life. Chiranjeevi now has a big job on

I get the impression that whatever level of government you work in, if you're a politician, you're to some degree "above" the common people. You work in a somewhat nice building. You get paid a decent salary. You make decisions that impact many people. Leadership puts a politician on a sort of pedestal, and good leadership leads to a high salary, which leads to a lifestyle far different from that of the common middle class.So if successful politicians can dine and stay at expensive restaurants and hotels, maybe their mindset is "seduced" into changing? How accurate can your representation of a voter's mindset be when your life is totally different?
Here is a funny video about the disgusting nature of politicians according to Jackie Mason.

The Indian Premier League (IPL), a Twenty20 cricket competition modeled on the lines of European club football, has already made the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) richer by close to $1.75 billion even before the first match has been played. It has also made many young players millionaires overnight by industrialists and film stars who own various teams. And this seems to be just the beginning. If the idea takes off, as it certainly will, some cricketers will make the kind of money soccer superstars make in Europe. When the smell of money is so overpowering and Indian politicians are missing out big time, can criticism from them be far behind? Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thakeray has already fired the first salvo at the one truly financially smart politician who is looking
Politicians are very rarely economists. Economists very rarely become politicians. Our elected officials often make serious economic mistakes due to political pressures which often work against sound economic sense. These are some of the most common economic mistakes.

In his article in EdWeek, “Where is Education in the 2008 Election?” (see www.edweek.org), David S. Seeley doesn’t blame the candidates for not moving education issues to the forefront of their campaigns. His feeling is that no serious improvement in education can take place without bipartisan support. Good luck finding any of that until November 2008, if then! According to Seeley: There has, of course, been some discussion of the federal No Child Left Behind Act on the campaign trail. But most of it has consisted of little more than partisan jousting over whether President Bush should be praised or blamed for the program. People seem to forget that the No Child Left Behind legislation was developed and adopted with strong bipartisan support. The current, politically polarized debat
I suppose no one but me gets all warm and fuzzy when they see the politicians sending us their Season's Greetings. Nonetheless, I thought it would be a real treat to gather all these jolly old dudes together. For a day lets put aside the fact they have pointy heads, and rank them solely on the quality of their Christmas Greeting itself.I don't think any of the current crop of candidates can top this message sent out by Poppy and Babs back in the seventies. Christmas was a happier time for the Bushs back then, before Sonny was despised by most of the free world.For example, back in the 1970's Dubya was just another harmless preppie jackass with tie and blazer strung over his shoulder and cigarette in hand:The Budweiser down by his foot was cut off.Is that really bro Jeb with his arm around Poppy? But, it seems Democrats are especially adept at the practice.However, voters/taxpayers are also getting better at recognizing the camouflage.Gavin Newsome, Democrat mayor of San Francisco, is trying out a tax with a double disguise: first, it's called a fee; and second, it's dressed up in the now-familiar costume of preventing a health problem.As an added touch, the tax is supposed to help alleviate a children's health problem....San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has set his sights on soda - working up a plan to charge a new city fee to big retailers of sugar drinks."The bottom line is that there is a direct nexus between high-fructose corn syrup drinks like colas and Big Gulps and obesity among schoolkids," Newsom said Friday.The idea of taxing soda to combat obesity - which is being touted as the first in the nation - has been roiling around in health circles for some time, inc
Since taking office in 2001, Hillary Clinton has earmarked more than $2.3 billion in federal appropriations for projects in her state. "Earmarking" allows politicians to avoid the regular budget process and write bills that pass without ever being voted on. No wonder they can't balance a budget and our deficit is so high, Hillary is just one of 100 Senators but has personally pushed $2 billion dollars into law in 6 years, and according to the article, she's not even close to being one of the top offenders.What the HELL is wrong with Washington? Obviously, the answer is greed. Hillary has given $500 million to 59 corporations, and 64% of them in turn made donations to Hillary's campaign. This is just one example, I'm not singling Hillary out as the one corrupt, hypocritical piece of crap doing this. According to the article, Obama used to do it but now only does it for government projects. It's still wrong. Every dollar of America's money that is spent should be voted on in broad
That is, assuming I ever had any. It seems like month after month, if not day after day, I'm hearing more and more appalling stuff about what some Dutch are like, one of the latest cases being of a Dutch diplomatic couple who dumped their adopted Korean daughter whom they'd raised for 7 years because she didn't "fit in" with their lifestyle. There's more enraging news about this over here too.

The music and film industry continues to pursue its idea of a politically "corrected" Internet - one that they imagine could protect their old business models without requiring any extra costs on their part. This time, the fix is Internet-wide filtering. In a memo to European policy-makers, the International Federation of Phonographic Industries (IFPI) has called upon ISPs in Europe to filter the content sent across their networks, block protocols used by their customers, and cut off access to persistently infringing sites from the Net.Disturbingly, European politicians seem open to the idea of ISPs policing and interfering with their customers' communications on behalf of rightsholders. Last month, the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) tabled an amendment to a Parliamentary report that changed a request to "rethink the critical issue of intellectual property", into a call for "internet service providers to apply filtering measures to prevent cop
"Politicians get physical" - what an exciting dispute!:) My favorite is the fight with the telephone. I'm watching this video news and I think these parties need some street fighter to dispute the new bills.

An Oak Brook businessman who has extensive financial and personal ties to the former head of the Chicago mob has given more than $200,000 in contributions to Illinois politicians through personal and corporate donations -- with Gov. Blagojevich receiving the most money, $35,000, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
Among other top recipients of donations from the businessman, Nicholas Vangel, a
