Seeing has always, to perhaps an extreme extent, been my sense of choice… I couldn't ever see or read enough. – Candia McWilliamBig Brother is back. Yay. I wonder what the ratio is these days between those who associate 'Big Brother' with the reality TV show and the book in which the character fails to appear and yet is everywhere at the same time? I think the answer might upset me so I'd rath

Important: don't forget to check: Help beat sarcomaPoets' liquor is back on the shelves. I 'm talking about absinthe, the beautiful and ever-changing green color alcohol beverage that was very popular back in the 19th century.Painters, poets and writers were looking for inspiration with help of Absinthe fairy lady.Absinthe by Degas:The liquor was banned and surrounded by a lot of beliefs. It's supposed to be mysterious and addictive and mind blinder, but today with modern techniques the liquor is safe to drink -in moderation, but like any alcoholic beverages. What I really like is all the ceremonials around and the vintage touch of it. You need to have a special spoon and it's better to have the right glass and a little water fountain. You put the spoon on top of the glass with a sugar on i

You are a poet. Everyone is. You may not express yourself with words. But you have expression. If you don't, you are lying to yourself. You have locked away you emotions deep inside your soul and they ache. Release them. They hurt more when they are denied. For if your have blood running through your veins, you feel. don't let yourself grow numb. Seek it. Follow me and I will show you.

Excellent poems by not so famous poets... found on toilet doors and walls..........A budding poet trying his best...Here I lie in stinky vapor,Because some bastard stole the toilet paper,Shall I lie, or shall I linger,Or shall I be forced to use my finger. Before he graduated to be a poet, he wrote this...Here I sitBroken heartedTried to shitBut only fartedSomeone who had a different experience wrote,You're luckyYou had your chanceI tried to fart,And shit my pants!Perhaps it's true that people find inspiration in toilets.I came hereTo shit and stink,But all I doIs sit and think. There are also people who come in for a different purpose...Some come here to sit and think,Some come here to shit and stink,But I come here to scratch my balls,And read the bullshit on the walls...Toilets walls als
Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (June 6 1799 – February 10 1837) was a Russian Romantic author who is considered to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature.Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems and plays, creating a style of storytelling—mixing drama, romance, and satire—associated with Russian literature ever since and greatly influencing later Russian writers.Born in Moscow, Pushkin published his first poem at the age of fourteen. By the time he finished as part of the first graduating class of the prestigious Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoe Selo near St. Petersburg, the Russian literary scene recognized his talent widely. After finishing school, Pushkin installed himself in the vibrant and raucous intellectual youth culture of the capital, St. Petersburg. In 1820 he published his first long poem, Ruslan and Lyudmila. Pushkin gradually became committed to social reform and emerged as a spokesman for literary radicals. This ange
On the advice of Lynn from Zelleblog I have created a sister blog to The Tree. The blog will be dedicated to poetry only. If you want to post poetry with the theme of peace, anti-war, or the like please let me know and I will add you to the "Poets for Peace" author list so you can post your work on your own time, any time. I have posted the first poem on the blog and added (1) to the end of the title. Anyone posting after that will simply add the number that follows the number preceding your post. Come one, come all, just make the poem fit the theme of peace or in that area. If you are not sure if your poem fits with the blog's theme, and by proxy The Peace Tree, it probably doesn't. (End of post)
Wow. We keep attracting great artists: visual, spoken word, and music.
This Wednesday we had a real treat. Don Wodjenski and Bob Wagner played jazz on Sax & Piano. They love to play, and it shows.
Our tireless promoter, Dennis, brought renowned poets Paul Harding and Eddie Reed up from Seattle, and also our own Chris Highland.
Amazing poetry, fantastic music. I got a lot of it on video, so I'll cut right to the fun part. Enjoy, and please, please, come and see our artists in person whenever you can. Thank you.
A long-planned WSUM broadcast, comprised of readings
from a writing workshop conducted @ Oakhill Correctional, has
previously been discussed around these parts. I edited the
first post,
with WSUM's Andrew Hirshman, because the original broadcast date
was held up pending some D.O.C vetting. Ray Hsu, who emailed re:
his
involvement as a workshop facilitator, recently wrote to say
that the broadcast has been given ...
Ray Hsu facilitates a creative writing workshop at Oakhill
Correctional in Fitchburg. While I originally
posted about the possibility of a special edition of WSUM's
"Literally Literal" featuring material from the workshop, approval
for that broadcast is still pending, so let's packpedal a bit.
Below Ray discusses the program's genesis, different contexts for
workshopping and critique--and his own membership in the Oakhill
writing group.
ewv: How was the workshop first put together? (Who was
involved, what was the inspiration/motivation, what were the

UPDATE: Ray Hsu writes in to inform us that the
broadcast has to be held off. "We are aiming for next week, pending
D.O.C. approval." Please continue reading--follow-up posts will
provide further details re: the workshop and new broadcast
time.
This afternoon, Hopefully sometime soon, WSUM's

I am disapointed in myself. For years there was a recording archive of poets past and present reading their works. What makes it worse is a college right across the bridge from where I live created the sight. Plus, The Kelly Writer House offers a ton of progams which I should have been taking care of. Man, how could have I let this go for so long!?
Out of curiosity I did a google search on Christian poets to see what I'd find. Besides a lot of people attempting to re-write the psalms I found a list that was quite interesting. It is a list of the faitfhul or formerly faithful rounding out with a lot of the major heavy hitters of poetic thought including Auden and Berryman. I wonder if people any of us realize how influential Christianity is whether we mean it to or not?
