Police in Pleasant Hill soon will be able to identify stolen cars just by driving around town. By July, the department will have an automated system that scans license plates — even at highway speeds — and runs the image through multiple local and state databases. If the license plate reader system finds a match with a car that has been reported stolen, it notifies the police officer within seconds. “Auto thefts are a problem and even though they are a property crime they can have significant impact on people,” said Pleasant Hill police Lt. Peter Enea. “It’s something we take seriously and this is just another tool to help us recover more cars and help us arrest suspects.” Enea said Pleasant Hill police received 207 reports of stolen cars last year and 175

Of course, he cannot resist using the opportunity to note the irony in the far right draping themselves in the Cross of a Turk. He offers a reason why English nationalism has been weaker than its Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish counterparts:However, it is important to consider why some people have, at times, appeared to be so hesitant and apologetic about England, its saint and its emblem, and therefore allowed the far Right to claim the lot for themselves.Part of the answer is benign. Once we'd sat down he began to pull something out of his bag. It was a present for me. I knew he'd bought me something, but I had no idea why or what it was. I'd expected a little trinket of some kind, maybe something funny, but this looked alarmingly big... He pulled out a great big hardcover book with the complete novels of the Brontë sisters. I nearly fell off my chair. How could he know that I'd love something like that? Why buy such an extravagant gift for no reason? Let not our longing slay our appetite for living. -Jim Elliot, in a letter to Elisabeth, his future fiancee.I could stand in one place and pivot, setting my foot first in the bathroom, then the master bedroom, the kitchen, the living room, and the boy's room. It was tiny, our first home. Noises carried easily, the 1948 hardwood floors creaked and popped incessantly. The kitchen found me pivoting again, as I could turn from the oven to the countertop directly behind me without lifting my feet. And yet, we hosted many people in our home! I could cook meals and clean up afterwards while friends sat at the little dining table directly across the counter; happily, I could still participate in conver- sation while I sudsed and rinsed. I found nooks for corner shelves to display my tea sets, accented by the cherry wallpaper I lovingly chose. The steeply pitched roof was graced with icicle lights in winter, casting a cozy glow on the front door that we had stained dark walnut, a berry wreath ad

      The Lake Pleasant Paddlers
While looking for paddling clubs for the previous post I came across a club out in Arizona (One of the 7 remaining states I need to get to have been to all 50). The club is called the Lake Pleasant Paddlers and they are very interesting. This is an informal club that meets each month. They don't have dues and bylaws and things like that of the RICKA club. They do however, have an interpretive ranger who goes on each paddle to instruct the paddlers on the local ecosystem, history and archeology of the lake. Each month the Pleasant Paddlers go to a different part of the lake. There they learn about that area and can easily venture close to wildlife on their silent watercraft.Arizona is very popular right now as a place to live. There seems to be more and more Arizona luxury real estate popping up. Friends of ours have a little place in Arizona and they love it for the climate. My Aunt even lived there for a while. Pleasant Words are a Honeycomb
As a mother it is my responsibility to instruct my children. As a homeschooling mother I also instruct them in their educational studies. This is not always a pleasant task. It is often easier to point out the errors and faults. This is something that of course must be done. If one does not see the error or fault how are they to see a need for correction? However, if all we do is point out areas that need correction our children will become discouraged and begin to resent or even reject our instruction. Parents must also point out those things which are done well and praise them. The things we choose to praise often reflect the things that we wish our children to see as most important. We praise our children and tell them how proud we are for times when they exercise patience, show kindness, act selflessly, share, care for others, are obedient, and make wise decisions. We will also say good job on a well completed school assignment. Have you been an encouragement to your chil

Associated Press Almost Gets the Story Right about Bill O'Reilly: A Pleasant Surprise
A rare instance took place today. The Associated Press got a story right; well, at least partially right. We recently reported how Media Matters, CNN, and MSNBC, intentionally misrepresented a story about Bill O'Reilly. They blatantly called him a racist when in fact he was making statements against racism.Considering that being called a racist is one of the worst names to be labeled, what the MSM did was beyond deplorable. If I were Bill, I would sue CNN, MSNBC, and Media Matters for defamation.Amazingly, the Associated Press reported this story accurately. David Bauder of the Associated Press explained the true context of Bill O'Reilly's statements. But, there was much more needed than simply explaining the context. Here subjectivity was appropriate. The title of the story should have been: "CNN fabricates false claims about Bill O'Reilly." Instead, the title was: "Bill O'Reilly Says he is being Smeared."The reason the title was misleading is because Bauder was writing a

      Have a pleasant Elul
Of course during Elul we are all doing everything we can to improve ourselves and work on our relationship with G-d. But how about our relationships with other humans? Are we also working on improving that? One simple suggestion that will make you much more loved in the eyes of everyone who shares the bus/office/house with you is to think about the ringtone on your cellphone. Even kosher phones can earn you demerits if you annoy everyone around you by having it switched on in the wrong place at the wrong time, or making it too loud, or using an annoying ringtone.Did you know that the (really annoying) Nokia tune ringtone is actually based on a 19th century guitar tune called Gran Vals, composed by Spanish musician Francisco Tárrega? You can see and hear it here:(If you want to learn how to play it yourself the sheet music is here: F.Tarrega - Gran Vals)Isn't that much better than the ringtone?Think of others when you set your ringtone. An Unexpectedly Pleasant Experience
So, today, my wife decides she needs to go look at new beds. We have been discussing the possibility of a new bed for a while, but she has impending knee surgery in October. Normally, she almost always sleeps on the floor because of a back injury incurred the in military, and she will need a VERY firm bed to help her be able to sleep after surgery, when she will not be able to get down on the floor. So, we head out to the local mattress store (Okay, I'll plug it, Denver Mattress Company). We have breakfast first, and get there right at opening. I think, great, they are going to pounce on us like mice on peanut butter. If there's one thing I HATE, it's pushy salesfolk. But, we take the plunge and walk in anyway. As expected, we are immediately greeted by a young, fresh faced salesman, can he help us. I cut right to the chase and tell him we need to see the firmest mattress he has. Immediately, he points to a particular brand, and also says that the floor model is on sale, if

Blue Cheer - Oh! Pleasant Hope(1971)256kbps"Hiway Man," which opens the sixth album by Blue Cheer, is a far cry from their version of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," which launched this group to worldwide fame. And though they were the original group to put their amps on "11," Oh! Pleasant Hope is a musical album. This first track, resplendent in heavy vocal reverb, sounds like Waylon Jennings fronting Quicksilver Messenger Service. OPH quickly changes pace with "Believer"'s interesting riff and the experimental production by Blue Cheer and Eric Albronda. Albronda assisted on the production of the self-titled fourth album, Blue Cheer, and co-produced BC#5 - The Original Human Being. It is the production that is a significant ingredient that makes this project by a legendary cult band so appealing. Pleasant Moments
We encounter people on a regular basis, whether it's face-to-face, by email or instant messaging or perhaps by actual postal mail (yes, it does still exist!) , we deal with people in some sense and react to that. Sometimes our reactions are based on what that other person says, sometimes they're based on what we are currently dealing with in our own lives and sometimes it's just a natural instinct that we succumb too.Usually, it's some sort of combination of the three. And more often than not, these people we interact with daily take a toll on our own life. These people, these interactions - no matter how small or insignificant they may seem have the power to make or break a good day for you. They may be a constant in your life, or perhaps they are just a brief encounter never to be heard or seen again, but whatever they are - they're there, in your memories, whether you consciously want to remember them or not.I like to think that everyone you've ever, EVER, come into contact with

The installation process of the Firefox version 2.0 web browser was a pleasant surprise!
I was aware of the fact that the general perception amongst all the end users of the Firefox web browsing software application was that the installation of Firefox version 2.0 was very easy and very simple to complete. However, I was aware that upgrading the web browsing software application can be a complex task. Hence I was prepared for any and every eventuality. However, the ease with which Firefox version 2.0 was installed on my computer took me by surprise. The installation of the Firefox 2.0 web browser was so quick and so easy to complete that I never felt that I was installing a major software application on my computer. I can safely vouch that the whole process of installation of Firefox version 2.0 did not take more than a minute on my computer. In fact, a substantial portion of the minute was spent in downloading and installing updated versions of certain Firefox extensions that I had installed on my Firefox web browser. Had these Firefox extensions not been installed o

      More Pleasant Travel Trip
Sorry for the long silence. I have been away for conference last week, and been traveling this week to USA. Well, this time we don't get to got to New York City already. We are in Houston again! The last time I came here was 1.5 year ago, before I was pregnant second time. I didn't know MAS has changed the flight schedule, and I like it better this time. Since we depart from KL 3 hours earlier, we manage to catch the connecting flight from LA to Houston on the same day. Which means we don't have to spend a night in LA airport like before. With this new schedule, I departed from KL on Monday instead of Sunday! I like it this way, coz I don't have to travel on my personal non-working day! :)And the total traveling time is also shortened as a result of that too! This time, from KL airport to Houston airport, only took us 24 hours. Last time was over 30! A more pleasant trip this time...
