I couldn’t help but notice the panoply of “here’s what I’ll be drinking (and here’s what you should be drinking) at Thanksgiving” postings from various and sundry of my fellow wine bloggers this year. In spite of the inherent American nature of the holiday, I fall squarely in the Franco-Prussian camp when it comes to pairing wines with the meal. Nonetheless, I didn’t post my choices ahead of time because I didn’t decide what I’d be drinking until the moment. Well, maybe I had a couple of ideas, but nothing totally concrete. Spending the day with my wife and a few of my more wine-devoted friends, suffice it to say I knew there would be no shortage of corks popping. So, without further ado, here’s the retrospective from Thursday’s festivities.Le Cidre du Pays d’Auge NV, Christian DrouinIf there’s a holiday that calls out for Normandy cider, it’s Thanksgiving. Whether pomme or poire, a brut cidre makes for a lovely fall aperitif, particularly given the mi

We all know that we cannot record and playback simultaneously in Windows Vista (usually with integrated audio). Here is a suggested workaround for this issue. 1) Open "Regedit" (Windows key +R , type regedit)2) Go to Edit -> Find (or Ctrl-F)3) Type "EnableInputMonitor" and click Find (or Find Next)4) Double-click the EnableInputMonitor entry. It will come up as 0000 00. Change the 00 to 01 (so it's 0000 01). Do a Find Next (F3) just to make sure it's the only EnableInputMonitor registry setting on your system5) Exit the Registry Editor and Restart the PC6) Right-click the little default audio device Icon and select "Playback Devices"7) Click "Speakers/Headphones" and then "Properties".8) Under the "Levels" tab, there is now a new option called "Input Monitor", which is muted. Click the speaker to unmute to Input Monitor, and the Line-In port now functions as expected Please let us know if this works

Mark Russinovich, one of our Technical Fellows and a prominent member of the Windows community, posted today on a topic that's received much discussion in the past few days -- that being the manner in which Windows Vista throttles network traffic on gigabit Ethernet networks when the user is engaged in multimedia playback.
As Mark puts it, "many people have correctly surmised that the degradation in network performance during multimedia playback is directly connected with mechanisms employed by the Multimedia Class Scheduler Service (MMCSS), a feature new to Windows Vista." This throttling of network traffic is mainly apparent on networks with infrastructure allowing gigabit throughput and is experienced by a user receiving, as opposed to sending, data.
The explanation is quite technical and rather esoteric, but the gist is that when receiving data on faster networks, the number of system interrupts is increased and because network-driven system interrupts are handled at higher
Filed under: GamingA mod chipping company called Team Symbiote has apparently created an application for owners of its Wii mod chip that enables the console to play back DVDs. This may not be the first mod to enable DVD playback, but since Nintendo still hasn't got around to providing the console with playback capabilities, we thought it'd be worth bringing it up again. Nintendo, how about hurrying up and making it so normal people don't have to buy dodgy chips to play a DVD or two on their console?[Via Wii-News, thanks wraggster] Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

New PlayStation 3 firmware improves AVC playback, backwards compatibility Sony Computer Entertainment has released a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3, bringing it up to version 1.82. Thanks for all of your support and feedback, keep it coming!” Also improved is the system backwards compatibility with original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles, though Sony makes no mention of which titles specifically were addressed. Instead, Sony recommends ga

I feel like I am repeating myself over and over again online, I think I have been bloggin for far too long. lol. Today's subject involves online relationships. I have a gazillion of them, all friends (no worries G) Where does it stop? when does it cross the line?I mean seriously, we are really just people unknown to the next online writing about whatever we write about commenting on whatever we feel like. There is an awful amount of free speech being used, some right some wrong. There are things I have said that I can't take back, can't delete them, they are imprinted in this internet forever. You can google them and find them I am sure, through a ton of diggings. I have been apart of another blogging service for more then a year, creeping up on two now, and I have made several friends, and recently enemies. I have come across so many different kinds of people, people with talent, people who can't spell worth a damn, and people who don't blog anything but news. Each has their attr
