What more could a city full of iconic monuments and beautiful people and food ask for?  Well a beach of course.  That’s precisely what will happen this summer.  From July to August the Pompidou Expressway on the right bank of the Seine will shut down so that it can be transformed into a beach getaway.  The Paris Plage project is in its third year.  The project is all encompassing.  2,000 tons of sand are trucked in to line the now shut down highway.  The beach effect is completed with deck chairs, chaises, hammocks, misting fountains, and of course palms trees.  The cobalt blue color theme is beautiful and suggests St. Tropez or Santorini.  The promenade created is popular among cyclists and rollerbladers.  This year a 28 meter pool will be added to cool off heat weary Parisians and tourists since the Seine is not exactly suitable for swimming.
