In a joint operation with officers from Brent & Harrow Trading Standards, Wembley Metropolitan Police and the BPI, various trade premises were raided last night and seizures made on illegal copies of the newly released film Om Shanti Om, which was openly available on display. The film, only released to the general public on Friday 9th November, was among many other well known Bollywood titles uncovered in the raids. Further investigations are under way to find the source of the supply. BPI along, with law enforcement agencies across UK and Europe, will continue to raid premises and take further legal action against people caught supplying this and any other illegal BPI member product. Rowling's Harry Potter series has taken another twist when pirated copies surfaced in the Malaysian market, local press reported on Friday. Cashing in on the popularity of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, pirates have mass-produced paperback editions which are retailed at 48 ringgit (14 U.S. dollars) each, the New Straits Times reported.They are available at selected newsvendors and bookstores, some of whom are selling the books at 60 ringgit (18 U.S. dollars) but with a 20 percent discount. Checks at several newsvendors and bookstores showed that the pirated book copied the original version wholesale, from its front and back covers and publisher's logo to even the barcode.

Within 24 hours, they were back in business with their 20-odd stalls at a shopping complex here. In fact, the syndicates are believed to have even invested in a “special chemical spray” to confuse the dogs which sniffed a cache of one million fake optical discs stored in an office tower block at the complex. In the raid, Labrador Retrievers Lucky and Flo were instrumental in leading enforcement officers to the discs. It is learnt that the syndicates have also changed their tactics by using pushcarts and trolleys for easy escape. Besides that, they have carried out extensions to the stalls by setting up secret rooms, installing remote-controlled doors and additional closed-circuit television cameras.
