There was a very interesting article in the Sunday Globe about Patte Papa, the director of the Boston Film Office. In a nutshell, she controls the movie industry in Boston. If you don't have a permit from Papa, you're not going to film. Here are a few choice quotes from the article: Already in 2008, seven major motion pictures have been shot in the city, compared with eight in all of 2007.In A

If you see an old house that's had a lot of work done to it, think to yourself "permits." Were they needed? Were they obtained? I previewed a home in the Alberta Arts district the other day. The house is 100-years-old. It had a large remodeled kitchen, too large for a 1908 house. The attic was now the master bedroom with a nicely done bathroom. There were other nice features to this house. W

San Diego officials say they're going to fight security contractor Blackwater Worldwide's permit to build an indoor military training facility in the city. The Developmental Services Department granted the permit March 19 without public hearings. City Council president Scott Peters says Blackwater used the name of a subcontractor when it filed for the permit to expand a 61,000-square-foot vocational training facility in the Otay Mesa area. His staff is researching ways to challenge the permit. Blackwater vice president Brian Bonfiglio says his company will fight if the city tries to backpedal. He says the anti-Blackwater movement stems from anti-war sentiment, not a problem with the facility. ~ source ~

I was chatting with C-J's Toni Konz about the school board on Wednesday when she told me she was working on a new story. Apparently, a Jefferson County principal had issued a directive to his faculty that they could no longer have students removed from class for failure to follow directions, profanity or vulgarity...and more; the kind of discipline policy that permits poor discipline. When I saw the photo of the principal in her article this morning, I was surprised. Iran's acting oil minister, Gholam-Hossein Nozari, has issued the permit for importing gasoline temporarily, a senior official said Monday. The National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Co (NIOPRDC) managing director, Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh, added that Nozari, the Oil Ministry's caretaker and National Iranian Oil Co (NIOC) managing director, gave the go-ahead as the 2.5 billion dollar budget ran out. The NIOPRDC chief was quoted by PIN as saying that the NIOC would provide the currency needed for imports of the commodity. Based on the permit, he added, 14 to 15 million liters of gasoline would be imported per day. Iran began rationing gasoline from June 22 and the Oil Ministry has allocated each private car 100 liters per month at about 10 cents per liter for regular and 15 cents for premium gasoline. Under the plan, gasoline is only supplied through smart card, an initiative taken by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to stop lavish fuel consumption by over seven mill
Pyramids are graves of polytheists, and a Muslim is permitted to visit them for the sake of a moral lesson (pertaining to death and the world to come) based on the Prophet's words in the hadith: "Visit tombs, for they remind you of the world to come". Other religious authorities, however, have prohibited visiting the pyramids because they are tombs of infidels. In May 2004, Sheikh Maher Al-Qahtani, which specializes in the traditions of the Prophet, posted a fatwa that forbids visiting Egyptian pyramids on the grounds that they enclose the graves of infidels. "It is forbidden to enter the homes [of infidels] or the ruins of the homes in which they used to dwell, and it is forbidden to visit them if it is known that infidel tyrants [dwelt there]. If a [Muslim] visitor must pass by [such places], he must do so in haste - according to what has been transmitted to us by Bukhari and Muslim through Ibn 'Omar - for when the Prophet passed by the stones [ruins of structures], he said: 'Do no
Well, a few months back we filled out all the proper paper work for yet another permit for me to say in the Netherlands. We waited and waited but heard nothing about it. A little nerve racking I assure you! All we had to do was show the IND that nothing had changed; Dutchie still had her job and was making the proper about of money. We also had to show that I was in fact insured as well as all the housing and other paper work we needed the first time around. A bit had changed since last we sent stuff over to the IND but pleasantly in our favor. Not only did Dutchie have the same job but now she made more than was required. I had more insurance than I knew what to do with as well as being employed. The government loves seeing immigrants working once they arrive so my contract with the agency was sent over too.
All was in order so we sent it over via the town hall here in Hilversum and waited until the IND received it and billed us for it. We paid them gleefully and waited for my one pie

On Friday, August 10 the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to oppose issuance of an Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) to use longline gear off the U.S. West Coast. The finding that the issuance of such a permit is not consistent with California's Coastal Zone Management Plan places increased pressure on the Washington Headquarters of the National Marine Fisheries Service to deny the permit application, which was approved by the federal Pacific Fishery Management Council earlier this year.TBF joined a coalition of environmental, sportfishing and small scale commercial fishing organizations to voice opposition to the permit at the Commission's meeting.TBF has been leading the fight against any development of a longline fishery off the West Coast since 2000."Bite Me"

The California Coastal Commission (CCC) meets this week in San Francisco. It has just come to light that the CCC is considering the recently approved federal Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP), which authorizes one pelagic longline to fish off a portion of California's shores. The Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) approved the federal permit, which still requires the approval of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The CCC has authority to make recommendations on federally approved actions that might impact species in state waters. TBF believes the CCC will oppose the federal action out of concern that species in state waters will be negatively impacted. State officials realize the federal government is interested in increasing, on both coasts, the U.S. swordfish landings. The U.S. is currently importing more swordfish than is being caught by U.S. fleets. Thus the federal decision makers at all levels are expected to support the Council action autho
How Long Does It Take You To Photograph a Scene in NYC? You might need a permit!
Apparently, NYC(New York City), is interested in requiring permits of people who will be photographing in a single location for more than thirty minutes, if they are two or more people. If a tripod and/or five or more people are involved, 10 minutes, and you'll need a permit. In addition to the permit, you'll need proof of insurance.
According to the mayor's office, this kind of ruling doesn't affect tourists and amateur photographers. However, I think about all the times I've been photographing a scene or doing some portraits of friends and I easily spend half an hour or more in one location.
This has to do with chatting, setting up, posing, eating, pointing and framing, etc. I've taken as long as an hour in one place as a tourist.
Apparently, this rule applies to people who are in cars as well. Have you seen the traffic? 30 minutes is nothing.
So What?

Things should never go smoothly for Arsenal. That's the way it is. We'll have injuries, suspensions, "i want to go home to my Mama" players, and now wok permit problems. Eduardo Da Silva's initial work permit application has been turned down. The club has appealed against it and I'm pretty sure he'll get the go ahead as he has played in a good portion of Croatia's matches and has featured regularly in Zagreb. If it gets turned down, well, things would just get even worse.Onto other things, Arsene Wenger has admitted that Gilberto will be his first choice. Not much of a surprise there at all. The Emirates Cup has started. Valencia has won the first game 2-0 against Inter Milan and Arsenal Vs PSG is going on now. 23 mins are over and no goals so far. I don't have tv coverage and a shitty connection means i can just sit watching the live scores. Then we have Angel Di Maria who is not signing for Arsenal. I wonder if we were interested in him at all; like Martins, like Anelka, like P
Krysta Doerflers article in the newest issue of Fine Homebuilding Magazine explains how she received her building permit after doing lots of reading and showing up at past building sites to watch the work being done:
Sometimes, they even trust that I share their same knowledge while they explain something with a lot of jargon that I have to say, Timeout! Draw me a picture. Hey, Im a visual person, thats how I roll. The best way to learn is by doing, so now Im ready to get on a jobsite and get my hands dirty. I have read some good home building books, but just like when I was 16 and reading a drivers manual for my permit, I could only read so much until I just needed to get in the car and step on the gas..
Lets make sure that subscriptions for your business are available for Fine Homebuilding Magazine since it would most certainly help out your company in more ways than one! Just like the example above from Krista Doerfler in which the reading of a drivers manual for her drivers permit
The Philippines has revoked a permit issued to a South Korean company to build a spa resort on a restive volcano just outside the capital, an official said Friday. The construction of the spa on the crater of Taal Volcano in Batangas province, 50 kilometres south of Manila, had been suspended since last week amid protests over possible hazards.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) initially issued an environmental compliance certificate allowing Jung Ang Interventure Corp to go through with the project.
But DENR Secretary Angelo Reyes said his office has now cancelled the certificate after an investigation found that the Korean firm did not meet all requirements. (more…)

In my book "The Plain Truth About God-101" (what the church doesn't want you to know!) the first half deals with a history of how religion developed in the world. We briefly touched on the Hapsburg Family, who were the true rulers of Europe, along with the Catholic Church, for about a thousand years. (950 c.e.-1912 c.e. The rule of the Hapsburg's effectively ended with the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand by a Serbian nationalist, which was the start of World War-1!)An heir of the former Royal Family put one of their many, many holdings ("Dracula's Castle" in Transylvania) up for sale Monday, hoping to secure a buyer who will respect "the property and its history," a U.S.-based investment company said. The Bran Castle, perched on a cliff near Brasov in mountainous central Romania, is a top tourist attraction because of its ties to Prince Vlad the Impaler, the warlord whose cruelty inspired Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, "Dracula." Legend has it that Vlad, who earned his nickname becau
