      Court Work Overload
New laws that protect those who can't care for themselves from being bilked by conservators are swamping California's court system amid a lack of state funding that is forcing many courts to tap into already thin reserves to handle the increased workload. The laws took effect last July and have nearly doubled the number of conservatorships the courts have to investigate each year - including 10,000 in Los Angeles County alone. But last year the governor vetoed $17.4 million to fund the reviews amid a budget crunch, and legislators are recommending yet another delay in funding this year. The result: Los Angeles County Superior Court is spending $30,000 a month in reserve funds on overtime and contract work to keep up with case reviews.Courts grant conservatorships if an adult is ruled incapabl

The more he sells the more designs he will print. Sooo, Unplugged Brain is an awesome design, printed on a gorgeous American Apparel Kelly Green shirt which of course is one of my favorite colors. It kinda reminds me this one from Uneetee and the idea is similar, but I also like all these cables that wrap around him; they add a feeling of anxiety to the whole scene. It costs $19.95 plus s&h and I'm expecting in the mail soon...

Be Aware of Hemochromatosis the Iron Overload Disease
By Peter WhittingtonHereditary hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disease amongst Caucasians. It causes the body to absorb and store too much iron. It gets its name from "hemo" for blood and "chroma" for colour, referring to the characteristic bronze skin tone caused by iron overload. However, as many sufferers do not exhibit the bronze colouration, skin tone is not a reliable indicator for this disease. Hemochromatosis causes excess iron storage in several different organs of the body including the liver, pancreas, endocrine glands, heart, skin, joints, and intestinal lining. This build-up of iron can lead to serious complications, is associated with hepatic cirrhosis, primary liver cancer, diabetes mellitus, other endocrinopathy, arthropathy, and cardiomyopathy and with reduced

      Iron Man Overload?
I've been thinking about this topic for a couple of weeks, but just haven't gotten around to writing about it until now. One the one hand, that's too bad because other sites like FirstShowing.net and SpoutBlog.com have beat me to the punch, but on the other there have been even more videos and images released since I started thinking about this. What, you may ask, is "this?" Iron Man marketing overload. When is the release of more and more images, trailers and video clips for a summer blockbuster too much? Now before anyone jumps all over me, as far as I'm concerned, no one on any movie news site has been a bigger supporter of this film longer than I have. I was upbeat about this movie from the very first announcement that Jon Favreau was directing it two years ago. I challenge yo

      Fixing Information Overload in Twitter
As someone who has started or run a few web projects, I'm used to the complaining blogger. And because of that, I try to stay away from being the complaining blogger. But I think that Twitter is about to drive me crazy with information overload, and I think I know how to solve the problem. So here's a go.Increasingly, Twitter has begin to feel like a collection of RSS feeds. My Twitter home screen is my personal newsreader. Unfortunately, it is completely dysfunctional. Some people I follow for personal reasons, some people I follow for work. Some people post often, some people once a week. I want to read every single message written by some people, and others can float by. Sort of like any other inbox, I guess. If you've used Twitter, however, you know that all your messages go into the sa

      Dealing With Information Overload
Since the invention of the Internet, more information than ever before has become readily available. But the readiness of information is mind numbing at times. Dealing with information overload is a by-product of the digital age, and the problem won’t go away soon. To take control of the influx of constant data, you can take some of these steps: Email: Ruthlessly eliminate all the non-relevant stuff that sits in your inbox. Be strict with the time you devote to your email. TV: Although you probably watch TV to relax, it is actually counterproductive. Mobile Phones: You can turn them off! Meditate: Even if it is just for 5 minutes, meditation can stop that ever constant chatter in your head. For more great tips, click the link below.

      information overload*
Between the celebrities in rehab, Young Hollywoodites in jail and the rest of it, lately, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by information. I don’t know how critical it is that I know exactly how Mr. Ledger passed away. Or that I hear every detail of the bubbly Kirsten Dunst’s alcohol treatment. While simultaneously trying to process a stock ticker of details about house fires, pipe bombs and end-of-days weather reports. When it comes to stuff on TV, most of the time, I just feel like I’m on information overload.I like to watch BBC news. At least they talk about something other than U.S. home foreclosures and celebs who abuse drugs and alcohol. They have a world view that I like a lot. Are You Experiencing Wedding Favor Overload?
Many years ago, it used to be that for wedding favors a bride had just a few options, if any at all. Guests went home with a slice of wedding cake in a pretty box and were happy to get that. Soon, those giveaway gifts became more and more popular for weddings, but were still limited - some Jordan almonds in a tulle bag, or a scented candle wrapped in colored saran wrap seemed to be all there was to choose from. Today, however, the wedding favors business had taken a life of its own. Browse any website and you'll find hundreds, if not literally thousands of options for not just your reception, but your rehearsal dinner, your bridal shower, your bachelorette party, everything. No Shopping Overload Here
Someone recently mentioned how nice it will be to see the lights in downtown Kansas City when we go there this weekend. This got me to thinking about downtown Seattle and I felt a little homesick. The midst, the lights, the hustle and bustle. That nostalgia lasted a whole 10 seconds before I remembered walking store to store to store to store… You know that headache that is particular to shopping? My goal this year was to shop only in town. I almost succeeded. I had to order the newest Eagle’s CD (it was a request!) online. I fulfilled my shopping list from Plant Art, Natural Selections, At Home, Adela, Earth Wisdom, Overlands, Michelle (can’t remember her last name) made me a bracelet to order and Dawn Hunter at Aurora Farms made my daughter a fairy doll and two dragons! I blame you guys At least those who have commented and e-mailed me about Seducing a girl. About half of you seem to think that more will be seen of the girl on the couch and that she might play some further part in Justine’s and John’s story. This had not been my plan. She was supposed to have just a “walk on” part. She was never going to be seen again.(Look people, I didn’t even bother giving her a name.) But now that several people have mentioned that they would like to see more of her I can’t get ideas for her out of my head. There is also another “walk on” part for a girl towards the end of Justine, and now she has that part as well. She fits the part and now there is an extra thread running through the story’s universe, so it is all good. She also now has a name, “Julie”. Originally she was just going to be a sex object for Justine to use to play with John, and you don’t need a name for an object. Now you guy

Today was my next to last stop for weekly shopping, Ralphs. I might go to Food 4 Less on Saturday or I may just skip it. As of today I’m a little burnt out but that could be because I overloaded my backpack, walked home and it’s burning hot outside. From the hotel, we took a van and stopped by the towns of Tigbauan and Guimbal, which I was not able to visit during my previous visit, to check out their churches. We then proceeded to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Miag-ao Church and the cemetery chapel, also in the same town.In the next town was a National Cultural Treasure, the San Joaquin Church. But equally impressive was the well-preserved cemetery which has maintained its old and uncrowded look. From there, we drove down to Antique. But we stopped over first at the junction point called Tiolas to have lunch. I got myself an order of batchoy. From there, we took the road less traveled to the southernmost point of Panay Island, the town of Anini-y.The Anini-y Church was very much intact and I hope that it is declared a National Cultural Treasure soon. It was most definitely worth the visit. Our companions had to drive back to I

      Waffles dot FM Bittorrent overload
With all the publicity over the Oink shut down, Waffles.fm in an interview with Wired’s Threat Level shows just how far the torrent industry has come from its first tentative steps many years ago. It also shows just how hard it is going to be to get a handle on the illicit Bittorrent scene, no matter what the big media companies want. The response to waffles from the Bittorrent community has been overwhelming, he says. When the site first went live Thursday, it crashed after its servers were clogged by a barrage of 300 registration requests a minute. “It’s unbelievable,” Dead1 says. Source: Wired Threat Level In all though, with Waffles, it is going to be about being able to stay up under onslaught of registrations, and torrents being uploaded. This is enough to drive anyone down the tubes in relationship to providing service. Although it is also amusing to note that someone did a 90 Megabyte per second DDOS against them because that person did not get an invite.

      Halloween overload
Let me just say that Joseph can throw one hell of a Halloween party. Yes, the party was a big success. To wrangle eight kids we had six adults (me, Jesse, my parents and two moms who stayed during the party) and I don't think we could have managed with even one less adult. My parents did a lot of the "behind the scenes" stuff like getting games ready and cleaning up after each activity. Jesse and I ran the games and activities and the two moms jumped in whenever needed. It all went really, really well. The kids really seemed to like the cookie decorating and the pumpkin decorating. I'm sure their parents loved having them come home with their Halloween costumes covered in glitter glue and frosting too. We got very lukcy with the weather because it ended up being such a nice day that we were able to do a lot of the games outside. The most important thing was that Joseph seemed to really enjoy himself. I think he really got a big kick out of playing host for his very first party.

Happy Autumn!Since it is the first day of Fall, what better time to start the Fall TV season? Actually, I would have preferred it if the new prime time shows started a couple of weeks ago because since all of the summer shows have ended television has been slim pickings. I have finally watched just about everything I have saved on my DVR. That Burn Notice marathon was super fun. But then again I have always been a sucker for watching a whole season at once. Yes, I am one of those people that records everything and zips through the commercials. If by some chance I start watching something "live" I get frustrated and put it on pause long enough so I can fast forward through the ads (just in case you are wondering that's 20 minutes for an hour long show. See how much time I save?). Yes, I watch A LOT of television and I have it down to a science (or maybe an art? possibly both?) -- I watch even more TV now that I don't have any money to go do anything. Kudos to me because I ha

Using Friends to Overload all the Overloaded Arithmetic Operators
In the article Class with all the Overloaded Arithmetic Operators, we overloaded (almost) all the arithmetic operators in one program, similarly in this article we’ll be overloading them once again but now using friend functions. We have already overloaded similar operators before (using friend functions), so you won’t be having any troubles in understanding the program below: // Program that Overloads // all the arithmetic operators // using friend functions #include <iostream.h> class myclass { int a; int b; public: myclass(){} myclass(int x,int y){a=x;b=y;} void show() { cout<<a<<endl<<b<<endl; } // declared as friend friend myclass operator+=(myclass&, myclass); friend myclass operator-=(myclass&, myclass); friend myclass operator++(myclass&); friend myclass operator--(myclass&); friend myclass operator++(myclass&, int); fri

      Information overload
As usual, I consumed most of the newspaper on the bus on my ride to work this morning, and I have to tell you that the news was not good. Aside from the fact that I now have a new big boss (holding off judgement on that for the time being) I read that Mattel has announced another massive toy recall for lead paint and dangerous toys. Then I read an article that says out of 250,000 births in Canada every year, as many as 1,700 babies suffer skull fractures or other traumatic injuries during birth. And to completely wreck my morning, a new study confirms that “eating large quantities of junk food when pregnant and breastfeeding could impair the normal control of appetite and promote an exacerbated taste for junk food in offspring.” Sigh. It’s enough to make you want to crawl back into bed and hide there for a day or two, isn’t it? Since I went looking for it and you might want to do the same, here’s the Mattel recalled toys list. It mostly affects Sarge from

Ipanema: Food Overload and a Refreshing Summer Cocktail
There is a new restaurant that has opened its doors in Ocala that everyone is talking about. If it is not their beautiful décor and “to die for” salad bar the topic of conversation usually turns to the prolific amounts of meat one ingests while dining at Ipanema Brazilian Steakhouse. This is not a restaurant for the faint of culinary heart, but surprisingly it CAN be for vegetarians! For someone who is always trying to cut down on their meat consumption, the salad bar at Ipanema is more than enough to fill you up while at the same time allowing you to indulge in top quality ingredients without straining your stomach or your purse strings. 1) Plan your day. Before you start your lap-top, write down 3 things you want to complete by today. Choose the most important one and post it on a writing board near your lap-top. This serve as a constant reminder of your top task-of-the-day. Schedule every Sunday to plan your week ahead by setting weekly goals.2) Organise your accounts. How many hours have you spent looking for that lost password and user name? Keep a booklet that records all your registered passwords and usernames and important information for your accounts such as click bank, web host, gmail, paypal etc. Make sure that the booklet is easily accessible.3) Keep track of your affiliate links. The worse thing that can happen is to enter the wrong affiliate link and wonder why you never get paid! You can save them all into a word file so that you do not have to log on to retrieve the exact link., whenever you need them

Marketing Online Secret: 6 Effective Ways to Manage Information Overload - Part 1
You wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready to go. At 10 am, as you sit down at you desk and on your lap-top, 45 emails come in. You try your best to clear all of them. Along the way, some of the emails offer you freebies that you just have to download. Before you can do so, you need to register through the website and you are hit with a long sales letter. Afraid that you might miss out some great offers, you read through everything carefully and download more free tools that might be useful for your internet start-up. By the time you look up, it is 1 pm and half the day is gone…In the afternoon, since you have downloaded that 156 page free e-book, you started reading up on it. When reading page 12, the plumber came to repair the leaking pipe and you have to attend to him. By the time it is done, you have forgotten about the e-book and started clearing your incoming emails. You have been kept busy the whole day, but you wonder why you never get to finish what you ha

Information Overload - 6 Primary Causes
All knowledge workers of today can attest to the overwhelming amount of information they need to deal with on a daily basis. This constant state of information overload is caused by several conspiring factors:#1 - More Information Than We Can ProcessSearch the web for almost any topic and you will get millions of web pages as a result. To this you can add hundreds of ebooks on the topic and most likely a dozen traditionally published books available on Amazon.com. There is no way you can possibly process all this information in your lifetime. And this is just for one topic you're working on this week. How do you know which of all this information is remotely important, or even factually correct? Google tries to rank their search results by relevance according to their own secret algorithms. Traditional book publishers filter out most book proposals and only publish a very small fraction of the books they are offered. Presumably only the "best" books get published with this process. But

      Avoiding Information Overload
How many emails are in your in-box? How many magazines are in your “to-read” (or sift through again) pile? How many blogs or information websites do you peruse on a daily basis–just for fun? Between magazines, blogs, websites, e-zines, pod-casts, books, newspapers, and T.V. shows, information overload is almost inevitable. It’s simply impossible to get through a single day without being flooded with new (and often exciting) information. The information is exciting because we seek out information on topics that interest us. You subscribe to e-zines on organizing because you’re interested in organizing. Right? So while all this information is exciting–it comes with a bit of baggage: the information you collect represents to-dos on your mental to-do list. When you collect information, you collect tasks you want to do or feel you should do, even if that to-do is as simple as digesting the information in the newsletter or e-zine. My brain is starting to overload!
Two months will be here sooner than I think and there is so much to do! I spoke with my father and emailed my brother. They both are wondering about lodging; where would be the best place to stay? We live in Hilversum and that’s about a half hour from Amsterdam. Should they stay where we are or should they stay there in Amsterdam? One thing that has come up in conversation is driving or train. I am a fan of the train; I have to hop on one tomorrow to get to the consulate in Amsterdam. Yet if I and Dutchie have to either meet up there or have them meet back here it is going to get mighty expensive on both our parts and we are not the richest in Hilversum! Brother is trying to figure out where to stay so he can book his flight, there are many deals with hotel and flight combos but one has to know where to stay so they can book right? I have to call him again as well as other family members so we can figure this out. Brother really wants to book now, its usually cheaper than waiting

      Cross-overload
On the Independent Review blog in Minnesota*, one contributor makes an important point about the increasing number of company wide crossovers (via The Beat blog): Like I've said in my last blog, I am an avid comic book reader, and I am beginning to notice a disturbing trend in the "big two"(DC Comics and Marvel Comics), and that is an overload of crossover events. Simply put, a crossover event is something that brings characters from many different titles together, which usually involves the universe collapsing on itself.[...]I don’t have a problem with "Crisis on Infinite Earths" or its recent sequel "Infinite Crisis", but I do have a problem with continued crisis' like DC's new weekly comic book "Countdown" (another name that has been showing up a lot lately). These books make it sound like readers are only interested when the entire universe is about to collapse. He's right, there's been far too many crossovers lately, and it's hurt a lot of chances for anyone to write a stor

Internet Overload: Will The Net Survive?
As the flood of data across the internet continues to increase, there are those that say sometime soon it is going to collapse under its own weight. But that is what they said last year. Web traffic in the 90s was much smaller than today Back in the early 90s, those of us that were online were just sending text e-mails of a few bytes each, traffic across the main US data lines was estimated at a few terabytes a month, steadily doubling every year. But the mid 90s saw the arrival of picture-rich websites, and the invention of the MP3. Suddenly each net user wanted megabytes of pictures and music, and the monthly traffic figure exploded. For the next few years we saw more steady growth with traffic again roughly doubling every year. But since 2003, we have seen another change in the way we use the net. The YouTube generation want to stream video, and download gigabytes of data in one go. "In one day, YouTube sends data equivalent to 75

Here is a hint of what A.P.C. has to offer you for the summer season. A.P.C. is well-known for their raw denim; however, when I noticed all these items was shocked. They also have a newer collection "Madras" which is the A.P.C. "color" collection pretty much. As of last year the collection consisted primarily of a "selection" of items like they barely had a collection. However, this year they've introduced a men's and women's collection. I have to admit that not only are the clothes pretty cool in the "Madras" collection but I like the funky writing they use for there tags too. It's amazing that A.P.C. doesn't have the traditional dark "French Colors" in many of there collections such as Lacoste whose polos come in attractive colors but also colors such as French mustard. Also, If you want Jesus's mom's shoes, Mary's shoes, they are available from A.P.C. now too. They go perfect with an ancient robe.Customer Service

Perhaps you are new to this training thing and you haven't really got much idea of how to go about constructing your training programme? Or you find that as soon as you try to do any big distance or speed work, you break down injured? Well, then, read on....TRAINING PRINCIPLES 101: OVERLOAD AND RECOVERYA famous legend has it that Milo the Greek developed his super-human strength by lifting a young calf while he was still a young shepherd boy. Over time, as the calf grew into a bull, he continued to lift it, the result being that his strength increased in proportion to the size and mass of the bull he was lifting. This story is often quoted to illustrate what is perhaps the most important and foundational principle behind developing a successful training programme - the PRINCIPLE OF OVERLOAD.Basically, this principle states that in order to see progressive gains (in this ca

      Scissor overload
Yesterday I decided to brave my sewing drawers and re-organize them. What a mess! I have 3 of those RubberMaid stacking drawers in the RV, filled to the brim with books, patterns and gadgets. They were to the point where I couldn’t find anything, and are now nicely sorted out again! I have SIX pairs of scissors! That’s a little overkill, I’m not sure where they all came from. I’ll try not to run with them all at once! When I finished that, I headed to Hancock’s to pick up 2 more PJ patterns, a nightgown for my mom, and a PJ set for my hubby, who shook and shivered like a sad little puppy the night before last, when the temperature dipped down to 30 degrees and I forgot to bring in the space heaters… and the furnace needs cleaning before I run it. They didn’t have a very good selection of flannel, so I’m not thrilled with the fabrics I ended up with, but they’ll do. Now if the PJ’s were for ME… they had some darl

Geoff Johns continues to overload on violence
This week, we make the discovery that, in re-launching JSA as a full title with a boolean included, Geoff Johns is undermining the entertainment value with plots that feature more increasingly violent assaults and murders. And while neo-nazis like the ones featured in issue #3 are some of the worst villains around, that still doesn't mean that we need to see a mother and child being sent to the great reward in a sea of red juice. Bloodletting certainly isn't needed in order to prove that the villains are the cannibals they are. This also brings me to note something I noticed in some of the Johns-scripted books I've read. As the Savage Critics blog says:As the non-maimy parts of this book show, Johns has a good handle on characterization and the clever hook. But I kinda doubt he'll ever really develop those traits to any significant extent now because this is the kind of stuff that keeps him at the top of the charts.I think they've hit upon something there. For example, it was specu
