Over the years, I’ve slowly built up a modestly sized collection of music. Just look at where Google Reader is placed on the menu from within Gmail. The menus aren’t organized by with any sense that I can discern. It’s not a simple alphabetic layout and the menus obviously aren’t organized by popularity of each respective product because there is now way you could convince me that Google Patents is a more popular destination that Google Reader. If, (and how I wish) I was in charge I’d probably organize the first few after Gmail as: Calendar, Documents, Reader, Photos, Web The rest could follow in order of usage popularity . Messy desks with overflowing piles of paper and junk are not only harder to work from, but it gives a very bad impression. And always keep an up to date To Do list. Keep 3 trays on your desk. Top for "to do", second for "awaiting responses", third for reading or meeting papers. It works, if you have a really busy day, you just need to work thru the top tray and pull meeting notes from the bottom one for any meetings. Also, you can find things really quickly and look professional. Lists.. lists really are the best way to get yourself organised. Write a list including the most minor of tasks that you need to do and the satisfaction you get from ticking one off will motivate you to carry on with the rest. Right now my house is in the midst (mess?) of a renovation project. We are updating our bathroom which recently sprung a leak due to an array of broken and rusty pipes. We are also converting our dining room to a dual purpose “home office-guest bed room” combination in anticipation of the arriving baby. We figure spending about $10,000 now will extend the useful life of this house for another 7-10 years before we have to bite the bullet and upgrade to a bigger house. We did some research late last year and the result was not good. For a modestly bigger house in a slightly better neighborhood, we essentially have to double our current mortgage. To us, one extra bed room does not worth $150,000. With any renovation project, I have to look for stuff that I have not used for years.
