Imagine this scenario: You have listed your home for sale and understand the market has been slow. There are many other Pasadena homes for sale in your area. However a buyer loved your home and made a quick offer that was accepted. Escrow has been opened. The Pasadena City Occupancy inspection has been ordered, but [...]
On Wednesday, 5/14/08, the Chicago City Council will vote to approve an ordinance that requires ANY event promoter to have a license from the city of Chicago and liability insurance of $300,000 --- even when working with an established venue that has already fulfilled all of these obligations. In addition:
The definition of "event promoter" is so loosely defined it could apply to a band
I've lived in New Jersey twice in my life so I feel like I have some, valid leg to stand on when I say the following...What are they thinking?Township Commissioner Ralph H. Bayard, who introduced the ordinance, said it was not anti-surfer. “We don’t want people walking around naked with a towel around them."Correct me if I'm wrong but if a person has a towel around them then... they aren't nak

article source: Faulkner County Courts and Public Safety Committee met Thursday to discuss a possible animal ordinance that would allow county residents to take animals to the Conway Animal Shelter and fine collections for the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office. County Administrator Jeff Johnston referred an animal ordinance discussed at the joint meeting of Conway City Council and the Faulkner County Quorum Court last month in which "Conway would provide services where if people in the county have stray animals, they could bring them to the city and the city would accept them. We would pay the city the portion that's in the animal control budget and they would have to build onto their facility to accept the dogs and cats," Johnston said. "For a period of time thereafter, we would contract
Another innovation is being introduced by Marikina — the Virtual Ordinance Library.

I like our free enterprise system and I
hope you do, too! However,
there is a proposed ordinance lurking out there and if adopted, it would handcuff
business and property owners in a new proposed DOWNTOWN SHOPPING DISTRICT.
This district would run along Main Street from
approximately Elk to Acorn and San Antonio to Austin Streets (See map
below).
Imagine just for a moment that you could
not sell your property to a new formula store or “chain store” coming to town
and reap the maximum market value. It
would be okay, however, to sell to an individual or “mom and pop” store, but
chances are that it would be for less money.
The same circumstances might occur in a
lease situation. The fact that it would
be more profi

It has been almost a year since Cincinnati City Council passed a law increasing the penalty for possession of marijuana. Under the old law, possession of up to 100 grams carried a penalty of a $100 fine and no criminal record. Under the new law, possession of 200 grams or less now carries a penalty of a $250 fine and up to 30 days in jail, plus a criminal record that must be reported when applying for a job or student loan. A second offense results in up to $1,000 fine and up to 180 days in jail. When this law was before the Council's Law and Public Safety Committee in March of last year, I sent every committee member a copy of a 2005 study by Edward M. Shepard and Paul Blackley of the Economics Department of LeMoyne College. They studied what effect increased marijuana penalties had on crime. Using data gathered from 1,300 counties and spanning a seven-year period, the authors concluded: "The results suggest that marijuana arrests are associated with increases innon-drug crime, inc
This week, City Council will consider new rules for cab drivers and the companies that employ them, including requiring cabbies to pass a test covering Houston's layout and city laws that govern the taxi industry. There used to be such a test, the Chronicle reports, but councilmembers voted it out in the 1990s.
"The cab industry has grown so much that many of the drivers are not familiar with Houston, and that's the majority of the complaints we get," Tina Paez, a deputy director of Houston's Finance and Administration Department, said. Houstonist agrees: We rarely take cabs, but a couple of times that we have, we've actually had to give the drivers directions to where we wanted to go. So a test would be welcome, we imagine — hey, it works in London, where for more than 150 years, cabbies have been required to pass a grueling test called The Knowledge. (It takes would-be London drivers an average 34 months to prepare for The Knowledge; we hope nothin
Cross posted from The Uncooperative Blogger:From Everything Alabama: The Pelham ordinance requires rental property owners within the city limits to maintain a register listing the names of the people who live in their properties and whether they are older than 19. The number of adults allowed in a dwelling is limited to two per bedroom. Occupants and the property owners can be fined $500 and jailed for as much as six months if a violation is found. Pelham's building official Bob Miller said Thursday that the city hasn't issued any citations under the ordinance. I don't know about the registry, but when I was renting on Long Island, NY, there were always occupancy limits based on the number of bedrooms; and that included children! Look, it is obvious to me that this is a response to illegal immigrants living in their town. It is also good zoning practice, two per bedroom is plenty. Of course the American Communist Liberation Union disagrees… Allison Neal, a staff attorney for t
{mosgoogle right}A university student who tried to get a woman to become a cabaret club worker has been arrested, Metropolitan Police Department officials said.Takeshi Sato, 22, was arrested for violating a Tokyo metropolitan ordinance banning people from creating a public nuisance. A revision to the metropolitan ordinance that established penalties for soliciting by cabaret clubs came into effect on Tuesday. It was the first time that police applied the revision to make an arrest. [...]
