Now that I’m couponing like mad, I have absolutely been overloaded with Sunday Papers. I’ve been setting them aside for recycling, since I truly hate generating more trash. In her essay, “The Nature of Short Fiction,” Oates wrote, “…it is the very skeletal nature of the newspaper, I think, that attracts me to it, the need it inspires in me to give flesh to such neatly and thinly-told tales, to resurrect this event which has already become history and will never be understood unless it is re-lived, redramatized.” Some examples of stories that resulted from such collecting are, “Where are you going

Despite their troubled state, newspapers keep luring some of the world's most successful businesspeople. Their next catch could be billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Newsweek reports that Bloomberg's top associates are encouraging the New York mayor to acquire The New York Times. Shares of the Times rose 40 cents, or 2.1%, to $19.59, in Monday trading. Newspapers are struggling as readers and advertisers increasingly turn to the Web. Earnings have plunged; growth rates are negative. Investors have fled in droves. You wouldn't guess it though from the interest they are drawing from billionaires. They seem to be the only people left interested in buying them. If you are a blogger there are a lot of things which you can learn from newspapers. When it comes to newspapers, usually space is premium. This means that an 100 word article with the same information as an article with 500 words is a lot more preferable. Too often bloggers forget about this important rule and try to write posts which are simply too long. We live in times when people value their time, because there are hundred things to do that you can choose from. When you write articles make sure that they are short and concise. In my case I always try to present some advice or information in my posts and I make them short enough that people can read them in a minute. Personally I am really bored by blogs which posts are too long, because I am usually visiting blogs to acquire some infor

Each newspaper is listed in terms of its circulation, regardless of its place of publication. Looking at the three British dailies, editors favour countries that are bigger and more populous, but also closer to home and better developed. They also give more room to the countries of origin of British immigrants, especially if they are white (look at the size of Australia and New-Zealand). Hardly surprising, but still disheartening, especially when you consider that the only brand that does not advocate objectivity, The Economist, covers

Before we continue with the business plan series, I try to keep adding some entries related to simple, everyday activities that one can do to help improve their writing. Reading the newspaper (online newspapers count too!) everyday helps with writing in several ways. One of the most basic ways daily reading of the news can help is by simply creating a more informed writer. By reading the news daily one stays informed about current events and develops a significant body of background knowledge that can be referred to when writing. Additionally, by reading the news daily, one unconsciously learns how to structure paragraphs and to write concisely. While proper academic and professional writing does not necessarily resemble newspaper article composition, the activities are not completely diss
One of my family showed me an interesting story in today's Times. The number of adults who read newspapers has fallen by about five million since 1992, according to a survey conducted for the House of Lords.Readership of most newspapers fell, with only The Times and the Daily Mail showing an increase in the past 15 years. The Times, which had 1.02 million readers in 1992, now has 1.74 million — an increase of 69 per cent. The figures were produced by the National Readership Survey on behalf of a Lords committee investigating media ownership. Overall the proportion of all adults reading a newspaper fell from 59 per cent to 45.1 per cent. In absolute terms, that equates to a loss of five million people, from 26.7 million. The website that I have created as part of Webdesign is tied in to this-people are getting their news from alternate sources such as free newspapers or blogs. One thing should be impartedThe figures did not take into account the readership of the papers' online sites.

The Des Moines Register, which is a statewide newspaper in Iowa, officially gave their endorsements to the two parties on Saturday night. The Register endorsed Senator John McCain on the Republican side and Senator Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side. The Register said that the two candidates were the most competent and ready to lead. Fortunately, these are just endorsements and the voters are the ones that actually get to decide. The editorial board also said, "With dissension at home and distrust abroad, as American troops continue to fight wars on two fronts, the times call for two essential qualities in the next American president. Those qualities became the paramount considerations in making endorsements for the Democratic and Republican nominees in the 2008 Iowa caucuses" "The times call for competence. Americans want their government to work again. The times call for readiness to lead. Americans want their country to do great things again. They'll re

We are facing a communications medium extinction on a scale never before seen… or so I hear. Every day in my feeds I see someone saying that something is ‘dying’. Whether it’s newspapers, blogging, e-mail, or even telephones as we know them, if you believe the hype then you better start building time capsules to show your children what you had to work with before holonews, lifelogs, and thought-sends came around. But to paraphrase Mark Twain, the reports of their death have been greatly exagerrated. Read on to find out what ‘death’ really means, what life after death looks like, and why the real story is rebirth.
The Truth about Death

Over the weekend, my fiancee bought newspapers home and my first reaction was.. “Why”? I can find all the material that newspaper offers online and it is all free. Most of my memories for newspapers were developed when I was forced to read it at a young age. Although it probably helped me, I remember newspaper publications as something that was boring and also something that made my hands dirty.
However, my fiancee quickly batted some sense in me and told me that she was trying to save us money! She told me that the Sunday paper has tons of coupons that we can save money with. It also had lots of advertisements about different things on sale.

A few days ago I commented on the fact that the Guardian was removing legitimate questions I raised on the number of complaints brought to the General Medical Council by Ms Penny Mellor. I replaced the question they removed in even more basic terms. Today, they have sought to remove the message yet again. It is interesting that while they have removed all my defences to Ms Mellor's assertions, they have allowed Mellor to continue her defamatory diatribe against Professor Southall many times over. My basic question that is indeed causing some gibbering difficulties over at Guardian towers, GMC towers and Mellor Towers is this " HOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAS PENNY MELLOR MADE OVER THE YEARS AND WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF SAID COMPLAINTS". Mellor keeps the above data hidden in one of her " SECRET FILES". The GMC of course protect their little serial complainer to the nth degree while spending doctor's subscriptions on legal advisors. The two alternatives are that Mellor has reported these co
Pencils do not have to be made from wood; they can also be made from old newspapers. This is a pretty good idea because as you can imagine to just to make pencils whole trees are being cut down. At least this way the paper has already been used, and in fact when the pencils are sharpened the newsprint can be seen, which is a nice touch.
These “Smencils” are also scented and come in bubble gum, cherry, cinnamon, grape, pineapple, fruit punch, peppermint, water melon, root beer and orange flavors, the scents are guaranteed to last for up to two years.
Prices are $5 for a five pack or $10 for a ten pack.

The Phillipine Star is the next mainstream newsapaper to go gushy about Identity Crisis, showing that even newspapers from foreign countries, sadly, can be just as fluff-coated as the ones stateside. And I think the following line here indicates just how badly confused the writer of this article is, or how much he's blowing it:
Unlike in my father's comic books, things are no longer distinct. I'm no longer sure if I want the heroes to succeed. The villains are still reprehensible, but I am no longer certain if they deserve their comeuppance. It's a real shame when someone just buys into all the propaganda clogging up IC as badly as the reporter who wrote this article does. But this is what seems to be the case.
Always use loose change or small bills when buying newspapers. This story didn't happen to me personally, but to my officemate's brother-in-law. This officemate of mine told the story with such aplomb and bravado that I couldn't help myself from laughing my head off. Yes, it was really than funny. Well, at least when he told it. :-)The tale goes something like this: My officemate's brother-in-law was in some province waiting for a bus ride home. Getting kinda bored with the rather long wait, he decided to buy a newspaper to while away the time.He bought a newspaper from a nearby vendor, but failing to have any loose change, he paid with a whole P500.00 peso bill. The vendor, not having change for a bill of that size, went off somewhere on the pretext of having the note broken down into smaller bills. Then one bus passes by, and then another. And the vendor was still nowhere to be found. It's at this point that it finally dawns on my officemate's brother-in-law. He had just been bam
GateHouse Media (GHS) priced 13.8 million shares at a price of $18.00 in its IPO set for today. That 13.8 million shares was above the initial 11.5 million shares planned in the filing and the pricing was at the top of the $16.00 to $18.00 range.Goldman Sachs and Wachovia were the lead underwriters; and co-managers were listed as Bear Stearns, Allen & Co, and Lazard. So who says newspapers are dead? GateHouse is a "local" specialist printing and online companies for local newspapers and online content. It has some 75 daily newspapers with 405,000 paid subscribers, 231 weekly newspapers with total paid circulation of 620,000 and free circulation of 430,000. It owns 117 local shopping free ad-only magazine/papers with circulation reaching 1.5 million; and it owns 230 locally-focused web sites. In 2005 the company lost almost $10 million on $205 million in revenues.Jon C. OggOctober 25, 2006
I had to go and see Israel’s Little Asia for myself, so I went for a visit last Friday.
The area next to the main TelAviv bus-station is got to be one of the worst areas in Tel-Aviv, maybe in Israel. It was the same deal with the old bus-station and the new one is no different. I would never think of going to visit that neighborhood if it wasn’t to see my Asian brothers and sisters. Yet, it was a whole lot nicer than I expected. Little Asia has a thriving community of foreign Asian workers in Israel. Even after seeing it I’m still having a hard time believing that it’s there.
I was surprised by many things that I saw over there and the people that I’ve met and seen. To give one small example, I came across 3 color-chromo-paper Asian magazines for the Asian foreign workers in Israel – “Focal” and “Manila Tel-Aviv” in English/Filipino and “Beijing TelAviv” in simplified Chinese.

Every company and every individual in the world is a Google target. Google CEO Eric Schmidt : We are in the search business, so we need all of the information…We're also in the advertising business, and we'd like to provide advertising services to people who have their own proprietary content. So depending on where we are in that spectrum, we either do an advertising deal or a content deal or a hybrid deal. But ultimately our goal at Google is to have the strongest advertising network and all the world's information, that's part of our mission. Google wants all of "the world's information" (including individuals' personal information), it wants to sell advertising to all of the world and it wants to distribute its advertising throughout all of the world. Is the Google world circle a virtuous one? Google claims "advertisers, publishers, and information seekers all profit as a result" How so? Google on AdWords: Google designed AdWords for advertisers who want to reach
Tomorrow a new free daily will hit the Dutch market, simply called Dagblad De Pers ('Daily The Press'). Obviously, they couldn't claim the 'De Pers' name for being too generic.
I posted before on this paper. The main characteristics are:
Vis-Ã -vis existing freebies (Metro and Telegraaf's Spits): De Pers will be a 'quality' paper with more extensive distribution, i.e. not exclusively on public

Newspapers Beat Local TV
According to a media research firm, the newspapers are making more money from online video advertising than local TV stations, $81 million to $32 million. TV stations have a mass audience compared to targeted audience on the internet. Newspapers have been selling customized solutions, with particular success in converting help wanted and automotive classified advertisers.
T.V. and radio News got you down? On-line current events and News blogs make being informed a much more enjoyable experience. For many the News on television has become a trying time of the day. Focused mainly on negative events, you may have to wait through the whole program just to hear the one story you were waiting for. If you miss the 6:00 p.m. show, waiting until the late night segment can be a real drag, especially if you've got a lot to do, or have to wake up early the next morning. My friends, there is an answer to this problem: News blogs or on-line current events. You can find all of your favorite broadcasters (E.g.: CNN, BBC) on the Internet, getting up-to-date information at any time of the day or night. You can even read personal journal entries written by multiple correspondents out in the field reporting on several different stories down to the current minute. Instead of hearing all News from one voice (often an irritating one), now you can read different human opinions
They're saying that the newspaper is a thing of the past, but is that really just a bunch of hype or not?Well one thing is for sure - new media is forcing traditional newspapers to adapt and stay up t
