Despite releasing "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, New Line Cinema has been officially put to death with 450 jobs cut yesterday reducing its workforce down to 40-50 people.It seems like New Line didn't know what to do with itself after Peter Jackson's trilogy was completed. The last couple of years has resulted in one loser after another being released, culminating with the fighting polar bears.What will be the next movie company to be put out of its misery? Something tells me another one will fall by the end of the summer.

New Line Cinema has announced it has bought the rights to a fact-based story about a US soldier who died in Iraq. The story, about Jeffery Toczylowski (or ‘Toz to his friends) who was an army special forces captain who died in 2005 after falling from a helicopter.
Prior to the accident, Toz had asked a colleague to send a pre-prepared message to his friends and family if he were to die. The message read,
“If you are getting this email, it means that I have passed away. No, it’s not a sick Toz joke, but a letter I wanted to write in case this happened.”
It went on to invite them all to a party, telling them about the $100,000 fund he had set up in order to pay for it.
The film will be entitled Time Of Your Life with a script written by Jim Burnstein and Garret Schiff. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment will produce.

New Line studios are being sued by fifteen Lord of the Rings actors over money from sales of merchandise. The New Zealand actors claim the studio has broken a contract to give them 5% of profits from merchandise sales.
The case was filed in Los Angeles by the actor’s lawyer who said New Line wrongly took “gross participation” fees.
Henry Gradstein, representing the actors said Hollywood accounting has led to the discrepancy, and maintains “gross participation” and distribution fees have swallowed up all the profits due the actors.

Uwe Boll, acclaimed director of several classic video game adaptations, will be going on a trip to Middle Earth soon. New Line cinema revealed today that the director has been working on the project for the past month, and that a new script for the film is in the works, with filming to begin on sound stages in Germany sometime in late 2007.
Appointing Boll as director on the new Hobbit movie marks the end of a search that began back in November of 2006 when Peter Jackson revealed to shocked Lord of the Rings fans that New Line had dropped him from the project. New Line wanted a director who would be able to generate a lot of Internet buzz, one of the key factors in the success of the original trilogy, and executives agree that when it comes to ‘net buzz, Boll is best.

New Line Cinema has fallen out with Peter Jackson over plans to shoot the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. Co-chairmen of New Line Cinema Robert Shaye has told the New York Times that while there is no workable script for the Hobbit, and no decision on how will direct it, he intends the movie to be released in two years.
Apparently, Jackson had been keen to direct the Hobbit until he fell out with New Line Cinema and filed a lawsuit over profits for the Lord of the Rings.
Robert Shaye has previously said he doesn’t care about Jackson and has called him “myopic” He told the New York Times he doesn’t regret the comments, but does regret losing a friend.
New Line Cinema has scooped more than $3 Billion from Lord of the Rings.
