I included bug spray on the list of essentials for this trip, but only when I got here did I realise that there's another spray called 'bear spray'. I still havn't got any, not the mini campers' electric fences which can be put around a campsite to deter wild animals.Nonetheless, it was interesting arriving at our log cabin near Jasper only to see a rather large grizzly bear foraging in the bushes

I am currently accepting applications for new neighbours. Well, not next door neighbours, as we've an empty lot on one side (lovely people, very quiet), and a charming retired couple on the other. A couple who move from their back deck to their front when our kids come outside so they can watch and hear them play. Who laughingly brushed aside our apologies over Becca running over and knocking o

Yes there is a way to balance worshiping God with serving our neighbour.
In Luke Chapter 10 and at verse 25, we read of a religious lawyer coming up to Jesus - with a question - and it just happens to be one of the most important questions a man can ask - “Teacher - what [...]

A Muslim community elder told a jury yesterday how years of trouble from the British National Party activists next door resulted in him going for his white neighbour with a kitchen knife. Habib Khan is accused of stabbing to death Keith Brown, 53, who died in the street after a major artery was cut. The jury was shown photographs of Mr Khan’s battered face when he was beaten a few months earl
Have you heard who might be moving to my neighbourhood? None other than my favourite princess - Beatrice. Apparently she's been looking at houses in Sloane Square. Oh, the excitement! I'm already rehearsing what I'll say when I bump into...
The bigotry of the current US administration is known for the lack of boundaries. They did not have a problem to invade and destroy Iraq. Would they care if they put forward illogical proposals to Canada? After all, many Americans refer to Canada as the state up there since they do not know that Canada is a separate sovereign country.

This is related to my previous post titled “Our Neighbour“, a post about Who is our Neighbour. This is not a question which I first encounter. I think this is a question which Catholics or Christians will often have to ask themselves, as they are always mentioned in the bible. During my [...]
Who is our neighbour? In English, our neighbour are people who are living near our house. Our neighbours are people who can help us when we are not at home. For example, when family goes for vacations, our neighbours help to water the plants and help to make sure that there are [...]
The whole teaching of Vedanta stands for one thing - that is love. Five hundred years before the advent of Jesus the Christ, Buddha taught: 'Hatred is never cured by hatred, but by love. This is the everlasting ethical law.'And what is love? Love means expression of oneness.Jesus the Christ said: 'Love thy neighbour as thyself.' But Jesus did not explain why we should love our neighbours as ourselves. That explanation you will find in Vedas, in the Vedanta philosophy, in the Upanishad. The Upanishad, which are the earliest writings of this universal philosophy, teach that we should love our neighbours as ourselves, not because they have done us some good or been kind to us, but even if they have spoken unkind words, even if they have taken wicked steps against us, even if they are spiteful and jealous of us, still we should love them because we are one with our neighbours in spirit. There is only One Spirit. The apparent man seems to be different and separated from that Universal S

Finally, DH converted the cell phone’s video (3gp file) to mpeg. Below is that video taken when she was scolding DH for ‘????’ (i.e. psycho). Full story read here.
Seriously, who is psycho? She has been scolding MIL ‘mad woman’ also. We believe she was previously scolded with these terms by her previous neighbours (??) and she is now using those terms on us.
Again, who is psycho? Let me ask you this, if you walk pass a house, with a woman standing scolding her neighbour who never respond, and this woman scolds everyone including her neighbours visitors, maid, kids, dogs –> tell me, who do you think is psycho? That woman scolding, or her neighbour who is being scolded?
Remember I blog about our new mad neighbours here and here?
A few times I tried to record their madness and show you, but they seemed to be scared of my ‘camera’ and backed off, everytime I took it out.
But it got worse now, that they are not scared any more. DH took the video of how this mad woman barked at him, at the same time screaming that she is not afraid of our ‘camera’. Well, actually I have to admit that, sometimes we are too sick of their scolding, I took out the ‘camera’ intended to just shut her off, but now it doesn’t work any more.
They are getting worse, not only scolding MIL but also my maid, who has not done anything to them at all not even said any words to them. This mad woman scolded to my Indonesian maid in Bahasa: “… go back to your country… you are pig… bla-bla-bla…”. (more…)
Is it wrong to covet a neighbour's garden?
Well, is it?
Isn't it our aim as gardeners to make everyone want our garden? I guess to some extent it is, but mostly we garden because we love it. If others appreciate our little portion of world beautification then it's a bonus, but our hobby doesn't stem from enticing others to desire what we've achieved.
I can appreciate my neighbours garden without craving to have it, or a garden like it.
I'm using the term 'neighbour' quite loosely because some of the gardens I covet are not even in my suburb. Some don't even reside within my state, and some aren't even grown in this country. But, in a global-village-kind-of-way they are still my neighbours... and I still lust after their gardens.
5 Reasons why it's bad to covet your neighbour's garden
There's nothing they do that you can't - especially if they're literal neighbours. Every plant that grows in their garden could grow equally as well in yours. Your soil could be as
Last night I found out there is more things to write about that new neighbour of MIL.
In fact, not only MIL got the heck of it, her other neighbour (the other side) also got scolded! Can you imagine, MIL is in between the two houses, and that phsyco neighbour can have ‘war’ with the other one.
We have been living in peace without this new neighbour and suddenly they came and the whole neighborhood got stirred up.
Everyday when the good neighbour walks out, the evil neighbour would take out her underwear and her husband’s underwear and swing at the good neighbour. She is like trying to give bad luck to her and their children. I think she has mental illness.

In-law’s previous neighbour bought their own house and moved end of last year. The owner wanted to rent it out again, but has been vacant for quite a while.
A couple of months ago, a real agent came with an old couple. They liked the house but wanted a lower rent, so couldn’t make the deal. Somewhat from conversation between MIL and the agent, they found out MIL knows the owner.
Few days later, the couple came back and asked MIL’s help to talk to the owner to lower the rent. MIL is always too nice to reject others, so she helped them, and finally they moved in.
Then, nightmare began…
A couple of weeks after they moved in, the old lady started to scold MIL openly at the yard. MIL at first didn’t know (more…)
Yesterday some new tenants (or owner?) moved into our next door apartment. I saw some Indian girls, very young, look like students.
Somewhat I had a very bad feeling. And I was right!
The 3 of us - Ian, Isabel and myself, slept early last night as we were all still ill. I was awakened by some knocking noise on the wall. This new neighbour was knocking something on the wall. Checked the clock, it was pointing exactly at 12 midnight.
I really wanted to curse them. Why can’t they knock earlier, if they really have to? If they only realised they needed knocking, can’t they do it the next morning?
I tried to ignore the noise and went back to sleep, hoping it was just a few knocks only. Soon after I fell asleep again, the knocking came back again. Then no more. A few minutes, came alive… this continued until I went insane!
At the boiling point, DH also couldn’t take it and went over to interfere. I was too tired to ask him what happened when he went over.
Most gardeners don't build fences for the sake of it. There is always a reason. Some erect a barrier between neighbours, others try to block out unwanted views while some may build a fence merely as a decorative ornament. Whatever the cause, the garden fence has been as much a part of gardening as compost and earthworms.
I'm not sure how it works in other countries but in Australia the boundary garden fence is owned by both sets of neighbours. The installation, upkeep and maintenance and any legal obligations are shared by both parties. This can be good but it also has it's down sides too.
For instance, our home was the last to be built in the street so our neighbours had already erected fences around their properties. With four bordering lots we found ourselves with four different garden fences. All similar style but each one was a different colour. Then we received four bills asking for our half share for the cost of materials and installation. Nice...
Yet, while these fences
My new neighbours intrigue me. I have seen nothing of them, I only know they're there because I've heard them come in of an evening and in the morning I hear them get up, shower, and leave. There is a car with Irish registration plates in the allocated parking space for that flat, and a beaten up white van is parking along the fence of the enclosed parking area. It isn't being a nuisance to me but I would probably be annoyed if I owned the spot along the fence behind it, even though I think they should still be able to get in and out. There would appear to be two of them in there, and as I might have mentioned before I haven't been asked to sign any new forms for the land registry so I don't think they can own it. So is this a long term thing or my old neighbour helping out friends? I'm dying to know.Having neighbours again reminds me how thin the walls are, so in the unlikely event I bring a guy home anytime soon (well, you never know, CG might visit. Oh, was that a pig flapping
