Ich habe ernsthaft versucht, den Tag zu verschlafen.. so gegen 7 Uhr abends aufstehen und dann schnell weg hier. Natürlich wurde mir ein Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht. Um 2 Uhr geweckt, 2 Stunden wurde hier wegen nichts und nochmal nichts Panik und Stress verbreitet. Ich hab mir seelenruhig die Haare über der Badewanne gewaschen, weil in der Dusche.. ich weiß nicht mal was in der Dusche ist, ich weiß nur, dass ich einen Zettel mit «Außer Betrieb bis 2008» ausdrucken musste. Im Keller ist es bitterkalt, eindeutig nicht zum Duschen erdacht.

According to Elizabeth Callanan one of the 350 victims in the ongoing 1031 Tax Group saga:
“US Bank has recently settled a class action law suit filed by the Southwest 1031 Exchangers (whose funds were stolen by owner McGhan in a fashion so like Okun’s plundering of our funds, it is eerie) with a $25 million payment (only part of the $95 million McGhan took).”
This is one of two comments that Ms Callanan announced in order to make people aware of the scandal, pitfalls, and ongoing suffering that has characterized victims in both cases. In response to a recent claim that JPS Capital sent a offer sheet for $148 million to Ed Okun and the US Trustee in charge of managing the settlement for creditors in the 1031 Tax Group case, Trustee Jerry McHale flatly denied such an offer with accompanying documentation was made to him. When told that JPS Capital’s Joel Shapiro asserted that a offer sheet for $148 million had been submitted, in writing, to Mr. McHale’s office, Mr. McHale responded with the following:
“Certainly if Mr. Shapiro wants to make the $148 million loan to Mr. Okun or wishes to purchase all of the assets that were recently transferred to me in the Asset Transfer Agreement approved by the court, I would certainly be more than willing to accept that $148 million so that I could distribute it to the creditors so that we can all get on with life.”

Und eigentlich möchte ich auch nicht lachen, aber Horst Schlämmer ist irgendwie so jemand, der hat keine Abnutzungserscheinungen. Egal wie gut man sich aufs Gegrunze etc. «vorbereitet».. der schafft es echt immer wieder.

Ich verfluche Jack White von den Whitestripes für dieses Lied. Einmal hören, den ganzen Tag nicht mehr davon wegkommen. A hutong is an ancient city alley or lane typical in Beijing, where hutongs run into the several thousand. Surrounding the Forbidden City, many were built during the Yuan (1206-1341), Ming(1368-1628) and Qing(1644-1908) dynasties. In the prime of these dynasties the emperors, in order to establish supreme power for themselves, planned the city and arranged the residential areas according to the etiquette systems of the Zhou Dynasty. The center of the city of Beijing was the royal palace — the Forbidden City.One kind of hutongs, usually referred to as the regular hutong, was near the palace to the east and west and arranged in orderly fashion along the streets. Most of the residents of these hutongs were imperial kinsmen and aristocrats. Another kind, the simple and crude hutong, was mostly located far to the north and south of the palace. The residents were merchants and other ordinary people.

I just finished reading True Light by Terri Blackstock, the last book I signed up for before bowing out from the Christian Fiction Review Blog.
I found it fairly well written, although in a couple places I got the impression Blackstock could have used a wee bit more time than she had for rewrites. More than 560,000 people have registered as Games-time volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games since the recruitment kicked off on August 28, 2006, the BOCOG Volunteer Department said on Tuesday.As of July 30, a total of 561,296 have applied to become Games-time volunteers, of whom 318,189 are from Beijing, 206,441 from other provinces and municipalities and 36,666 from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas, the department said.

Darius Washington Jr. arrived at Memphis as one of the most highly touted freshman in the country. His freshman year he memorably broke down on the court after missing a free throw that would have sent the Tigers to the NCAA tournament, but he came back and had a solid sophomore year. Washington declared for the NBA draft after just two seasons at Memphis, but he was labeled as tweener who was too small to play shooting guard and too inexperienced to play point guard. He went undrafted and ended spending last season playing overseas.
This week Stephen Dowell of the Orlando Sentinel caught up with Washington. His goal is still to play in the NBA and he hopes playing a season at point guard and leading his team to a Czech League title will earn him another chance. Washington’s father says that a number of NBA teams are interested in his son, and to showcase his skills he will likely play in one of the NBA’s summer leagues.

This month, the CSFF Blog is touring the online version of the magazine, The Sword Review. I haven’t been able to plumb this as deeply as I’d like, so I can’t vouch for the contents, but at the price of free, it’s probably worth taking a look at if you’re a fan. For poets especially, it’s worth taking a look, as this appears to be a paying market, and there aren’t many of those for any kind of poetry, let alone speculative.
As to the contents, as I said, I haven’t verified this, but the standards laid out in their writer’s guidelines are very promising. The gist: They frown upon the use of profanity, and if plot requires depicting sexual or violent actions, they prefer it be briefly summarized over rather than shown in graphic description.

I finished reading Double Vision yesterday (see my earlier review), and author Randall Ingermanson continued to wow and raise the bar on craftsmanship in it’s genre, although my reading materials of late have shown I take honesty about as seriously as Dillon, who I found it easy to identify with, except for politics, and especially on bathing suits. I think some ladies will be surprised by Dillon’s reaction as he would have been dismayed to learn today’s young women have been trained by culture to intentionally flaunt their assets and literally dress to kill.

Friday March 16th has arrived–The day is quadruple witching…
For those of you who don’t know what that is.. It’s a day on which contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options and single stock futures (SSF) ALL expire.
This is similar to the triple witching hour, except that the quadruple witching hour sees also the expiry of SSFs.
Quadruple witching days occur on the third Friday of March, June, September and December.
We can expect a lot of choppy action and strange action today. Very rarely do you get huge trend moves on expiration type days. Tread lightly and no revenge trading!

The Tuscon Citizen quotes Vice Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch's majority opinion: "In this technological age, when warrants can be obtained within minutes, it is not unreasonable to require that police officers obtain search warrants when they have probable cause to do so to protect a citizen's right to be free from unreasonable governmental searches." Prior to the search in question, defendant Rodney Gant had been arrested for driving with a suspended license. Police found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Gant's car. The Arizona Attorney General's Office's chief criminal appeals lawyer was not a happy camper: "If you arrest the driver, it's not clear when police can search the car and when they can't. According to Jacksonville.com, the legislation requiring that Florida drivers carry no-fault personal injury policies (PIP) expires next Monday. Insurers welcome the end of the (PIP) system, which is rife with fraud. Problem: the Florida legislature may attempt to pass a measure that will renew the requirement. If so, insurance companies will need time to re-program their computers, figure out new rates and apply for their approval. Fort Lauderdale Rep Ellyn Bogdanoff sums up the mess: "The companies simply do not have the capacity to turn around in 24 hours." In the meantime, Sam Miller of the Florida Insurance Council has a message for drivers with current PIP policies: "Your contract with the insurance company is not voided by PIP going away."
